This is just the cutest little ole cabin that was the homeplace for this property built in 1865. We both love LONESOME DOVE so we named this cabin for GUS....(we are building CLARA'S CABIN further away on the property with as close to the same feel as Gus's as we can achieve, but with 2 bedrooms.)
It has been updated in keeping with respect for both its age and our modern needs. The kitchen boasts a new stainless GE gas stove/oven and a stainless GE fridge. It has a porcelain farm sink and the floors....while not old....are stained to match the old plank flooring in the rest of the house. There is a comfy living room with a fireplace and DirecTV and fantastic stained glass pieces done by widely acclaimed stained glass artist, Pat Williams.
The bedroom has a queen size bed and off this bedroom in the front is a reading room/bunk room with bunk beds for an extra person...although this little house is more comfortable for one or two people. We can also provide a Pack N Play if given advance notice that you are bringing a small child.
The bathroom has a slate tile floor and slate tile shower with stained glass in the window of the shower and above the sink. There is a washer and dryer in the event that you need those items. We supply a hair dryer and linens and towels for your needs. We also supply shampoo, soaps, Tide, charcoal for grilling, etc., just like your home.
There is a lovely patio in the back with a wonderful hot tub and a couple of tables and chairs and patio furniture with an umbrella. There is also a grill for your outdoor cookouts! We stock the pantry with condiments and other foodstuffs for your use. We generally have eggs, butter and milk and soft drinks there for your use as well.
Whatever you would like to use at the Little House, please feel free to do so.
AND....if you love fresh farm eggs, then feel free to go into the chicken coop and get some fresh eggs and in the garden behind the little chicken coop, you can pluck some fresh veggies whenever the garden yields its crops.
Please pick ALL the fresh figs that you want!
Our big dog, Sadie, will usually camp out in front of the Little House just to make sure you are taken care of. She is an Anatolian Shepherd and was bred to be a livestock guard dog. The breed hails from Turkey and I know she wishes we had much, much colder summers... She is BIG but she is a sweet girl who lays around a lot and makes sure that you are safe and secure.
It is just a lovely little cabin. Please enjoy yourself!
Nacogdoches is known as the "Oldest Town in Texas" and is full of antique shops and quaint little restaurants. There is wonderful shopping in Nacogdoches and the nearby town of Lufkin. We have a farmers' market on Saturdays and live music at the Liberty Bell Wine Bar & Restaurant every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Other venue's in town also have live music on week ends.
Lake Nacogdoches is good for water skiing and jet skiing and fishing. Lake Naconiche is also a good fishing lake...as is Lake Sam Rayburn (which is about an hour away).
About 45 minutes minutes away, close to Jacksonville is the Cherokee Trace drive thru wildlife park...
If you are interested in sight seeing we have the Old Stone Fort, The Sterne Hoya Library, and Millard's Crossing.
In the very near future, a water park is opening AND a micro brewery. Auntie Pasta's has really good Italian Food and Clear Springs has real down home cooking...Mike's Bar B Que and The Bar B Que House will satisfy any craving for bar b que! There are many Mexican food restaurants and a couple of wonderful Sushi Bars as well as the new little Dollie's Diner for breakfast and lunch downtown....
