About Jackie Havard

I'm Jackie. I grew up on Capitol Hill in Washington DC a block from Eastern Market. I have lived in Durham, New Hampshire, Amherst, Massachusetts, San Francisco, California and Brooklyn, New York. I'm so glad life's twists and turns brought me back here to DC, what a great city. It's fun to raise my daughter in the neighborhood I grew up in. DC is such an interesting blend of history, culture, art and beauty. I love to read. I love to write. I love live music. I love art. I love movies. I love baseball. I have been a waitress, a bartender, a teacher, a decorative and scenic painter, a graphic designer, a real estate agent, a traffic and weather reporter, a DJ for an Americana music station and I was lucky to find myself on the security team for the best nightclub on the planet. I wish I had more time for yoga classes and gardening. I love to cook a big, fresh feast. Most of all I'm so grateful to be mom to a dynamic, energetic, curious, cuddly 1st grader. How exciting for you to be planning your next adventure here in Washington DC. It's going to be great. Happy trails!

Why Jackie Havard chose Barney Circle

I had only begun to think about the idea of looking for a house of my own to buy. I expected to take my time searching. A good friend of mine was moving onto this block and just to continue a conversation we were having, I came to see the house down the street that had just popped up for sale. The minute I walked in the door, I knew I was home. It had everything I wanted from the front porch, to the hearth, to all the natural light pouring through the skylights, to the backyard. I swept it up and have felt so lucky ever since.

Was as described and PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 (2 Adults and or 16, 13 and 11 year olds sons) were very comfortable in the house and in the neighborhood. Laundry was key for some messy eaters:) The Safeway plus grocery cart was super close and a great way to have snacks for our long days. The restaurant recommendations were spot on. the Potomac Street Metro Station was super close and easy to get to - Jackie leaving the Metro cards was an added bonus:)

We had very long days that included a lot of walking so coming back to the house and the outdoor patio for a glass of wine while the kids watched some TV was a perfect ending to our day. There was too much to see in our 3 day visit so we look forward to coming back and staying at Jackies again.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in Jackie's home with my husband and teenage son. The location is great! Convenient to Metro, Eastern Market, Barracks Row, great restaurants & grocery shopping. The Metro cards to use is a bonus! On mornings when we were in a pinch we got breakfast sliders at The Pretzel Bakery around the corner. Jackie is a fantastic host, accomodating and welcoming in every way. We would stay here again!

My family and I really enjoyed our stay!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was clean and ready for our family and Jackie was available for anything that was needed. We enjoyed our short walk to the Metro every morning to tour the sites in D.C.

As suggested, we used Old Town Trolley for a bus tour and really enjoyed that. Parking was available in the neighborhood with a parking pass for $25. The beds were super comfortable and check in/out was easy. We would definitely stay there again while in D.C.

Comfortable & charming in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five loved our stay in Jackie’s home! The house had every comfort and then some, plenty of linens, cozy blankets, cosmetic and household supplies and even kid-friendly dishware in the kitchen. The shelves were stocked with fabulous books (for the kids and adults), board games, puzzles and toys. The location was a short walk to the metro station, and we loved the Pretzel Bakery up the street! My Florida family truly enjoyed our DC row house experience!

Outstanding property in Capitol Hill

  • 5 of 5

What a delightful place to stay! We were on a mini-family reunion on this trip. The unit was clean, bright, airy, and so very charming. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes/pots/pans/ and knives. If we would have been staying longer, I definitely could have easily cooked several meals there.

The master bedroom bed was soooo comfy. My college age girls used the bunk beds and they said they were just fine. My sister slept in the living room on the twin air mattress with no complaints.

We enjoyed the great location. Truly in the heart of a neighborhood and it was awesome. We even watched a Pee-Wee baseball game at the local elementary. The Safeway was 2 blocks away. The Potomac metro station was closer to the house, but we enjoyed walking to Eastern Market, grabbing a coffee and then catching the Metro from there. So nice to have the Metro cards to use at the house. I cannot say enough good things about this property. We will definitely stay there again. Jackie was wonderful and left a lovely pear cake on table for us to enjoy when we arrived. Thank you so much for the hospitality.

Car: not necessary

Capitol Hill is a Vibrant Yet Cozy Neighborhood. I Grew Up Here and I Love It! It's Full of Deep Roots, Historic Homes and Landmarks, But It's Also Hip, Dynamic and Thriving With Local Shops and Restaurants. It Feels Like Being in a Small Town Nestled Right in the Heart of a Big City. There Are So Many Different Ways to Enjoy It. It is the Perfect Gateway to the Rest of the City. the Potomac Avenue Metro Stop is Only 3 and a Half Blocks Away Where You Can Catch the Blue, Orange Or Silver Lines. This Affords You Quick Access to the Capitol, Monuments, Museums and All of Downtown With It's Restaurants, Bars, Theaters and Live Music Venues. Capitol Bike Share Has a Docking Station a Block and a Half Away in Front of Safeway (the grocery store). Hop On a Bike and Take a Ride Down to the National Mall, Or Over to Nats Park for a Ballgame. Or You Could Just Stroll Through the Streets of Our Neighborhood, Taking in the Historic Homes and Gardens As You Make Your Way to the Eastern Market. Here You Will Find Fresh Vegetables, Unique Cheeses, Homemade Ravioli, Meats, Fish, a sweet shop and Flowers. if It is a Saturday Or Sunday Then Count On the Street Being Closed With Local Artists and Farmers Selling Their Goods. if You Aren't Up for Cooking, Grab a Delicious Wood Fired Pizza at Seventh Hill Or a Gourmet, Authentic French Dinner at Montmartre. These Are Just a Few Suggestions, the Possibilities Are Endless in This Dynamic City.
