We use this apartment occasionally when we visit Victoria and as we run a boating and fishing charter company (Mayne Interisland Sea Tours) and small resort (Blue Vista resort) on Mayne Island in the southern Gulf Islands--this lovely suite is rarely used by us much of the year--but we do love having it when we come over to Victoria. Our grown children: son-Doug and daughter- Liz live on the other half of the duplex and manage the property for us.
Carmen Pearson purchased this house in 2012
Having a home in Victoria is a perfect balance to life on the Gulf Islands. Our home and business on Mayne Island are about 45 minute a ferry ride from Victoria and --while some people try to get away from it all by visiting us on our quiet island--we occasionally like to get away from it all by spending a few nights in Victoria: eating in all the wonderful little restaurants, enjoying the shops and big town--as-well-as staying over for business, doctor's appointments, etc..
As we are used to a great deal of privacy and quiet (Andrew occasionally complains that the seals slapping their tales on the bay off our deck and the songbirds in our garden wake him!) we were concerned that it would be hard to find a quiet spot near downtown Victoria. We lucked out when this house came up in this much sought-after neighbourhood. We purchased this home from the original family who built the property during WWII and its Cape Cod design has a charm about it. We loved the towering Garry Oaks and mature gardens. Our street is quiet--with the pattering of a few little feet in the morning and afternoon as children walk with their parents to the school a few blocks down the street. We are just a few minutes form great shops and restaurants and all the other amenities of Victoria--but very secluded and quiet. The day may come--in the years to come--that this property might become our primary residence if/when life on the islands becomes a bit much--but, in the meantime--with two grown children who are studying at UVIC--it is a perfect spot for our family to have a toehold in the city.
lovely summer getaway! gracious hosts.
We particularly enjoyed being in a quiet neighborhood after the hustle of the city center. The accommodation was comfortable, there was a grocery store nearby so that we could get all necessary food items. We really enjoyed walking around the area, and found friendly folks everywhere! We would go back there in a heartbeat! Thank you, Carmen, for a wonderful experience.
Quite often our vacation rentals resemble a hotel room where everything, except the bath, is contained in one open area. While a combined kitchen/living/sleeping area has advantages it doesn't allow for differing, conflicting activities. How pleasant it was to find this place with three separate areas allowing undisturbed naps, late TV and snacks all at the same time...just like home! The property description is accurate, the owners are very accommodating, the place is very clean and aging gracefully and the kitchen has a wonderful southern exposure, light and view. We recommend it and will certainly rent it again our next trip to Victoria.
Well-kept, very comfortable, great location, responsive hosts
I really enjoyed my stay at this place during my recent one month stay. Being a student at Uvic, the location of this place is really ideal with a 10-15mins bus ride to campus. The host's son met up with me and showed me around the bigger house for laundry and was really friendly during my time there. Would highly recommend this place to anyone coming to Victoria for vacation! The neighbourhood is also very quiet, with essential shops located really nearby!
We had a great weekend stay at this quaint home in Victoria! The house is located on a quiet street about a 5-10 minute drive from downtown. The owners are easy to communicate with and respond to messages quickly. I appreciated the option of cleaning the suite ourselves and having the cleaning fee waived! Would definitely recommend to a couple or small group (no more than 4) for a weekend away (or longer!)
Less than 5 minutes to Hillside Mall, bus stops and all downtown amenities of Victoria. Set on a quiet Garry-oak lined street in the trendy Oakwood/Fernwood area of Victoria. Short distance to Jubilee Hospital and downtown.
