Charming & romantic Victorian cottage. 4 bks to Beach,2,9 to Arcadia Bluff golf
My heart has truly went into this home and the peaceful charming little town of Arcadia, We have worked for 4 years of restoration while living in it, to bring this ginger bread Victorian back to her original charm and cozy beauty. The front porch is my favorite and especially proud of area of the home. We rebuilt most of the porch from the roof down using all original ginger bread pieces as we could. gathering rocks locally we built a stone porch and steps, with the floor surface being all reused porcelain tile.. Add this to the 100+ year old maple trees that provide complete shade to most of the home & rocking chairs, you won't have a care in the world sitting out there with your morning cup of coffee. I especially Love it during a warm summer rain storm ! I , like many folks , love the beauty of rocks so this theme carried into the bath and kitchen. Local rocks (Petoskey too!) were cut and polished along with marble and granite to make a one of a kind bath to place the deep claw foot bathtub back in. I was grateful that none of the beautiful old woodwork and crown molding or doors had not been removed or painted over so they refinished beautifully. Removing all the old windows in the house and completely restoring them, was quite a chore to say the least ! Sanding, re-varnishing , painting and re-caulking each one under those beautiful big old maple trees. Restoring the wood siding and painting the home was a amazing transformation that summer! Picking out the color to paint her was truly mind boggling for me, I wanted the stone work we had labored with to really pop ! I wanted it to be cheerful, happy and inviting. Many folks would stop by on their strolls, walks to the beach, to see the daily progress that warm summer gave. All giving me such nice encouragement & ideas. I finally decided on a yellow paint called summer squash, it reminded me of the summer sunshine. A happy color I thought...so this is where the name for the cottage came from..." SUNSHINE"

Sunshine house is a very lovely vintage home, conveniently located 2 blocks from Lake Michigan and close to lots of beautiful natural scenic beauty. You can tell a lot of care and love was taken into the refurbishing of this house and the owners really want you to enjoy your visit, as we did ours.
There were a couple of small issues however.
This house was listed as nonsmoking but did smell of cigarettes and animals. The kitchen garbage was full of cigarette butts when we arrived. The house was very clean besides this.
It only has one bathroom which was very nicely remodeled with lots of beautiful stone and tile, but it doesn’t have a shower. It only has a free-standing claw bathtub with a hand held shower head. There is conflicting information on the website for this.
Also, this doesn’t tell you that you are only renting the first floor of this house. The upstairs is occupied by either the owners or separate guests. This would be nice to know that you are sharing a house with someone.
All in all, this house was very nice, with lots of room and nicely furnished, a beautiful back yard with a fire pit, outdoor seating and a grill, but FYI on the above.
Simply an amazing place to stay.
We absolutely loved every inch of this amazing little house. The love put into it shows thru in every detail. We will definitely come back again. Thank you Bonnie and family for offering such a warm wonderful home.
Very nice, quiet and peaceful.
Bonnie was very nice and accommodating. The house is quaint wit everything I needed for my stay. There isn't much in terms of restaurants or shopping in Arcadia but not too far to other little northern Michigan towns. I enjoyed it very much!
