Recently extensively renovated upper floor of house (1240 square feet.) located only 150 feet from the best sandy beach on the Sunshine Coast, with a peek-a-boo view of the ocean. There is a full length deck area for relaxing, barbecuing, watching the water, etc. The Seahorse Suite has a wall-mounted 46" Cable TV, gas fireplace, 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, complete kitchen with all the amenities required to prepare - and enjoy - your meals.

I am a native of the Vancouver area....born in Vancouver, grew up in Richmond, married a girl from Vancouver - and raised our family in Richmond. We became 'empty nesters' in 1989 - and moved to this property in Roberts Creek

Why Karen chose Roberts Creek

My wife's extended family owned a waterfront property with a rustic 2 bedroom cottage about 1 mile east from here. Her great uncle purchased that property from Union Steamships in the early 1920's - and he built the cottage. My wife spent many of her childhood summers there. My first (but not last) visit to 'the cottage' was about 1966. I fell in love with the beach - and the environs -and decided this area was where I wished to eventually retire. We were very specific in what we wanted to purchase; the choice/prime properties on 'sandy beach' seldom go 'on the market' - and it took almost 10 years. When this one became available in 1989, we bought it. About this time, all 3 of our children moved out (within a year) - so before they had a chance to move back in, we moved out (to the 'old house' on this property). The local 'old guard' tell me it takes 25 years of residency in Roberts Creek to be classified as a 'local' - and not just a 'summer complaint; by that definition, I became a 'local' in 2014.

What makes this house unique

This house was a bungalow when we arrived. In order to facilitate one of the major items on my wife's 'bucket list' (build a new architecturally designed wheelchair accessible home as near the water as possible), this house was moved back about 80 feet and raised to include a 10 foot high ground floor. Amongst other things, this would provide a better view from the 'old house' than a single story bungalow would. We made some modifications to it, and had all the overhead services placed underground - and replaced the water and gas services to the property to facilitate 2 homes. I spent much of the next 3 1/2 years building her 'Taj Mahal' (there were several delays - as travel was also on her 'bucket list; she loved cruising - and wanted to visit every continent before she left this world - she had stage 4 breast cancer - and she did that, too!...we went to the last one, Antartica, 8 months before her demise). She also realized her dream of living in her 'Taj Mahal' for over 2 1/2 years at the time of her passing. The name Kamile is partially in her memory: KA for Kathie; MI for Mike; and LE for Lesik.

Once Kathie departed for whatever awaits us after death, I undertook to upgrade the 'old house.....some interior walls were removed to make the kitchen, dining and living rooms an 'open' area; enlarged all the windows (they were quite small - and only single pane); moved the laundry room to the new basement area; redid all the wiring and plumbing, replaced the flooring and counter tops, and re-finished the entire interior. I'm sure you will thoroughly enjoy the result when you stay at what I call the 'Seahorse Unit'.

Good location

The house has very little view of the water but is only a few feet from the beach. You must be agile enough to go over logs to get to the water. It's close enough to Roberts Creek to walk there. The house was large enough for our family of 5 adults and 2 kids.

The major problem we had was the lack of hot water for our group. It should be good for a party of 2 with no dishes. The BBQ did not work properly, the Owner Mike could not fix it so he exchanged it for a tiny One good enough for hotdogs, which was not sufficient for our family. We cleaned the house when we got there, it needed a good bathroom and floor cleaning. The kitchen could use more equipment, bring dish soap and extra toilet paper.

Me and my friends had a great time relaxing and unwinding before our midterms for university. The house was super cozy and the beach was so close. Thanks for having a great place to escape too.

A huge disappointment! Not a waterfront property...

Described as having a "full length deck for relaxing, barbecuing, watching the water etc". Beach view "partial obstructed view". A VERY misleading description this is not a waterfront property, it is close to the beach.

We know Roberts Creek from a previous holiday and chose this location for the views of the water, beach, sunset etc. We were hugely disappointed to find the view was almost completely obscured by the roof of the property in front. It was possible to catch a glimpse of the sea between the trees from either end of the deck but no way was this a location ideal for water watching or beach viewing. The view of the property in front was excellent. Definitely not worth a 6,000 mile trip . It is worth noting that there is no photograph of this house. We felt cheated and fooled.

Owner's Response: This suite is indeed located on a waterfront property - but the property has 2 houses on it. The listing for the Seahorse suite is exactly as has a partially obstructed view of the beach (the other house is located immediately between it and the beach) - and is about 200 feet from the beach. For some unknown reason, this tenant assumed that they would be almost right at the water's edge - and was very vocal - and almost belligerent - about this misconception of theirs almost from the time of their arrival. They also suggested that they could probably ruin my business by writing a bad review. I told them that it I had no idea how to respond or what to say to them except that the unit they rented for their stay was exactly as advertised - and that I would make no apologies for it! (I have suspicions as to what they really wanted but I will not suggest here what that might be.) Even after suggesting that they might write a negative review, I had no idea that she/they would actually write such a totally negative one. Never has anyone else complained about the view from the Seahorse. On the contrary, most tenants have had positive comments about how good the 'partially obstructed' view is (much better than anticipated). To avoid any similar misconceptions by future tenants in this regard, I will (in the near future) add a few photos of the house - and views of the waterfront from the Seahorse suite. There is just no satisfying some people!! Even after seeing their negative review, I offer no apology - as I do not feel one is warranted. I do not anticipate them returning - and can only offer condolences to the people operating the next unit they choose to book. So far as their cleanliness and other habits during their stay at the Seahorse suite, I cannot fault this tenant in any way in that regard; they were impeccable.

Great location and beach - not much of a view

This was a decent place. The beach is lovely and it's close to the heart of Roberts Creek.

But we booked both suites for two families expecting they would be the upstairs and downstairs of the same house. This suite was 100 feet back from the beach. Our fault for not clearly interpreting the listing.

Things that weren't our fault: the roof leaked on a rainy day, dripping into the living room so much we had to put a pot down and empty it periodically. And the place wasn't as clean as you'd expect on arrival, likely because it hadn't been stayed in for a while.

Overall a decent experience, but not without some flaws.

Great bang for buck

nothing fancy, but great location and Mike was very accommodating. A little dated, but very clean and relaxing. Neighbourhood was more quiet than I would've guessed. Definitely coming back again.
