About Melvin Camden

I am a supervisor at C.W. Barger & Son, an aggregate limestone quarry in nearby Lexington. As a result of buying this house, the Phyllis and I eventually bought the Hilltop Market across the street, which adds so much convenience to be able to shop right across the street for groceries, fresh meat, beer and wine, fishing supplies, etc. We have lived in the area all our lives, been married over 30 years, and look forward to making your vacation the best possible!

Why Melvin Camden chose Buchanan

Loved the house and the location, its amenities, the window seat in an upstairs bedroom, its possibilities of renovations, the yard, the view, the friendly neighbors--everything!

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Comfort, comfort, comfort! So many things to enjoy in the area indoors and out. History, adventure, and culture all close by! The views are spectacular!

Nice home

  • 4 of 5

It is a very nice home. The only complaint that we had was that the mattresses on all of the beds are very hard and you can feel the springs in the mattresses because they are pretty inexpensive mattresses. The rest of the home was very nice and comfortable.

Lovely Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time staying here. The patio is a fantastic place to hang out, and the view is hard to beat. There is a very convenient market right across the street as well. Would highly recommend!

Spacious & comfortable home for your weekend retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here as a large group of friends from DC visiting the nearby Virginia Safari Park. Phyllis' property was wonderful: it was spacious and comfortable, with ample space in the living room for board game night, large group meals on the screened-in porch overlooking the river, and a well-stocked kitchen for simple, home-cooked meals. Phyllis provided all the information we needed by e-mail well in advance of check-in, and it was no problem arriving late in the evening. Check-out was a breeze, too. I highly recommend this as an affordable, well-appointed property for your large group.

Excellent place

  • 4 of 5

My 4 friends and I had a wonderful stay at the Overlook. The home was clean, warm and comfortable. We spent plenty of time on the screened in porch together and the store across the street was convient. I would recommend this house. We were able to visit nearby wineries, waterfalls, hiking and found some very good restaurants with in 30 miles. The house met our expectations and we really appreciate d the extra touches. If we had any requests, it would just be a couple of lamps in the living room and the bed room with bunk beds. Thanks so much Phyllis and Melvin.

Five stars from our kayaking group.

We'll be back again next year, if not sooner.

Great view from the screened porch overlooking Buchanan, the online photos give it little justice. You must see it for yourself.
