Little Piece Of Heaven Nestled By Spring Creek

Bedrooms 1
Space 46 m²
Property type cabin

About the property

1 Bedroom 1 Bathroom Sleeps 6

The cabin was built in 1939 and through the years has been remodeled to a full-service, all-electric dwelling. Heat is provided through a Pot Belly wood stove in the living room. It is not winterized, so it is used from June through Labor Day.

It is a little piece of heaven! It is nestled by Spring Creek, with the background of the Black Hills and walking distance to the Flume Hiking Trails. Spring Creek is perfect for fishing! The trail leads right to Sheridan Lake, either on the Flume Trail or up the canyon.

There is a screened-in porch with two full-size beds, as well as seating areas. The porch is protected from weather elements. Best way to describe it is that it is luxury camping. There is a queen size airbed that can be set up on the porch or in the living room. A living room with comfortable furniture, a full bath (tub/shower), and fully equipped kitchen (except dishwasher). Air conditioning in the main cabin area, but not on the screened-in porch. Beautiful deck off the porch and a fire pit.

About Jim L'Esperance

We are the third generation in our family to own the cabin. It is co-owned by myself and my sister, Mary. My wife, Shirley, and I reside up the hill from the cabin, and we both work in Rapid City. Mary resides and works in Gillette, WY. The cabin is a special place for our family and friends to relax and have fun.

Jim L'Esperance purchased this cabin in 1939

Why Jim L'Esperance chose Rapid City

We want the cabin to remain in the family.

Definitely a little piece of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had such a nice time at this little cabin. Beautiful area, peaceful, quiet surroundings. The beds were so comfortable and it was so peaceful sleeping on the screened in porch falling asleep to the sound of the creek and waking to the sounds of the birds chirping. Fully stocked with everything anyone could need. Games and yard games even! I enjoyed quiet mornings, sitting outside with coffee and a book. No interruptions from cell phones. Much needed vacation...was so content right at the cabin. Jim and Shirley were kind, welcoming and very accommodating. Would highly recommend!

Fantastic little cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed in Jim and Shirley's cabin for 2 nights and loved the cabin and location. The cabin was well stocked including all the supplies for smores which we put to good use. Our 2 boys had a great time catching crawdads in the creek, we were able to hike from the cabin, and we were really close to Sheridan Lake which was a great spot for swimming. The cabin was spotless and the back porch was perfect for grilling and listening to all the birds. Awesome spot!

Wonderful and well cared for retreat

  • 4 of 5

This was hands down my husband and my favorite place to stay during our South Dakota family trip. It was well equipped, comfortably furnished, personal and in a great location next to amazing trails, lakes and sightseeing. The owner met us upon arrival and was very communicative leading up to our stay with great directions, etc.

We loved being able to be off the grid and the creek on the property was fun for the kids to explore. There were even lovely touches such as a guide book full of ideas as well as a S'more's prep station stocked with the fixings! sleeping on the porch provided the best sleep we have had as a family in years - waking up to the daylight and crisp mornings after the heat of the previous day's peak was amazing and so refreshing.

The only thing that was a bit tricky (and the reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars), was two large rain storms come through both nights...and even though the screened in porch is surrounded by shades that are tied down, the wind still blew the rain water in through the shades and the sides of them - so we had wet beds and wet floors. We ended up moving the lovely antique furniture away from the windows and doing some mopping up both nights since we had about a half inch of standing water around the sleeping area. That being said, the kids slept right through it! :) - - and we would do it again given the chance. I don't know how common those types of storms are in the mountains. Just making mention of the rain water coming in so the owners can protect the cabin and all it's loveliness since it is so well cared for.

thank you for such a wonderful stay and sharing your beautiful space with us! We would recommend this to anyone and would def stay here again.

Owner's Response: Hi Jill and Brian, We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the cabin. We also appreciate the very nice comments you had for your stay. I know you reached out to amend your comments about the rain water in the porch, but I was not able to figure out how to assist you and no need to worry about that part of your review. All information is good to know, so we can fix it for future guests. Sorry you and Brian had to deal with that. Yes, those types of storms are unique in our area. We have not had that happen before, and this winter, Jim will be making shutters to cover the screened in area for when those moments come again. Mother nature sure keeps us on our toes for sure. We are glad you made it home safely. if there is anything we can do to help you with future trips to the Black Hills, do not hesitate to contact us. Take care. Sincerely, Shirley and Jim

Rustic but lovely!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 (2 small boys) had a perfect time at the L'Esperance Lounge. The fresh air and nature sounds filled the screened in porch where we had 2 great nights of sleep. Our boys caught lots of fish in the stream that flows within ear shot, and had a great hike on the trail. The cabin was the most well stocked rental that we've ever stayed at. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun rustic retreat near all the popular black hills tourist sites.

Excellent place to stay in the Black Hills!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at this lovely cabin and were pleasantly surprised at how close it was to all the Black Hills attractions! It was a short drive time from almost any place/activity the area has to offer. The home itself was very comfortable and had great access to nearby hiking trails. We loved the fire pit for smores as well as being able to hear the creek from the porch at night! Very nice and friendly owners as well- super knowledgeable about all the nearby attractions.
