About David Hills

David and Catherine are the 10th generation of the family living on the farm ( Est 1655 by Joseph Smith) ! It is a place of history, beauty and fun.

Fun facts about David and Catherine:

First, we are passionate about people and different cultures. We have traveled far and wide and this is reflected in our home. Catherine has been a midwife for 17 years and brings her passion for Mexican artists into the home. She also is devoted to salsa dancing, motorcycling (1966 BMW), learning Spanish, grew up with deaf parents, and is even pictured on the new Smuttynose Bouncy House beer label!

David's interests include sailing, motorcycling (also), ping pong, anything to do with sustainability, and people. And he gets to be Catherine's husband! Together we have 5 adult children who we love and adore!

(Also, we know the area REALLY well and love to turn people on to special places)

David Hills purchased this farmhouse in 1655

Unique NH digs

The Hills are great hosts! The farm is amazing and convenient to Portsmouth and UNH. We really appreciated Davids recommendation to go to Telluride by The Sea film festival.

A Unique Gem Just Outside of Durham!

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to rent a house to stay in while I moved my daughter into her dorm at UNH. What she and I discovered was a beautiful space that we found ourselves hurrying to return to each day! The farmhouse is open and bright, updated and decorated with the nicest touches. The rooms were all cozy and light. The large kitchen, was the perfect gathering space for those staying at the farm. Tiger the cat was a warm and welcoming host, who always had a happy "meow" for us as we pulled down the driveway. But the highlight of our weekend was the Farm Stand down the hill. To be able to get up in the morning and wander down to get a cup of coffee, treat or pick up any veggies or fruits for the day was such a treat! David welcomed us with a tour of the farm, complete with a little family history of the place. We felt like we had come home to visit family! Can't wait to return to Emery Farm for another relaxing stay.

Great location, wonderful hosts, and a beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

This was a last min. trip for us and we didn't spend much time planning or looking for a place but we got lucky! Perfect need a car to move around but everything from downtown to beaches to museum is closeby. The farmhouse is a real farmhouse with fruit/vegetable growing gardens, barns, cows, chickens, goats, etc. David was very accommodating of our requests, and patient and pleasant in handling all questions and concerns before we even arrived. And once we were there, we very much enjoyed his company, and our two-year old daughter was almost inseparable when he was at home in evenings. The house/kitchen is well stocked and beautiful and spacious, as shown in the pics and Portsmouth has lot of interesting stuff to do!
