Palo Duro Canyon Escape @ Doves Rest Cabins - SkyHouse

Sky by Name. Sky by Nature. Let your heart sing. You’ll never forget the first time that you see this view! Perched hundreds of feet above the west rim of Palo Duro Canyon State Park, from this celestial cabin you will survey everything that lies below in the canyon floor, and from above; where the sun, stars, planets, and the moon are seen traveling in the wide open expanse of the firmament. SkyHouse is a real piece of Heaven and is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

This massive one-bedroom, 1 and ½ bath cabin was designed by the premiere home-builder in the Texas Panhandle. This Cliffside retreat has a contemporary design that seamlessly blends into the landscape around it. The master bedroom acts as its own private suite, including a queen size leather sofa sleeper in the main room.

The large covered porch and expansive terraced patios with HOT TUB make for perfect outdoor gatherings, and is the centerpiece during long summer evenings. The combination of upscale amenities and stunning vistas is what makes this Palo Duro Canyon Cabin so attractive to the discriminating intrepid traveler.

Why Jeff Means chose Canyon

Palo Duro Canyon State Park with its Technicolor walls make for high-desert scenery more commonly seen in southern Utah. It offers more than 30-miles of hiking, mountain-biking and equestrian trails and an additional 1,500 acres set aside for horseback riding. You can bring your own horses so don’t hesitate to ask us about local boarding. Mountain bikers can experience the best single track in Texas and will enjoy the well maintained five trail heads networking for some 26-miles throughout the canyon ranging from "mild" to "wild" in technical ability - dirt, rocks, river rock, sand, wash-outs, switchbacks, drop-offs and climbs with alternative trail accesses throughout.

During the summer, enjoy a performance of the outdoor musical drama TEXAS. The play, nearing a half-century in its on-going production runs Tuesdays through Sundays, June through August, at the 1,700 seat Pioneer Amphitheater. Watch the stories, struggles and triumphs of early settlers. The family-friendly show has singing, dancing, fireworks and lots of Texas humor.

You'll find SkyHouse a place of amazing beauty, quietness and nurturing of soul & spirit.

Palo Duro Canyon embodies Texas’ sense of place and spirit like few other areas in the state. Doves Rest Cabins is honored to provide the world’s only private overnight luxury accommodations to intrepid travelers, offering unique views and an iconic symbol of the American Southwest for our guests to enjoy. Wildlife diversity and abundance around Doves Rest is excellent, including populations of blue quail, bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey, bobcat, mule deer, white-tailed deer, Barbary sheep, coyote, roadrunners, skunks, rabbits and numerous songbirds. Fun memories and relaxation happen here!

What makes this cabin unique

Off the beaten path and outside of mainstream destinations, we’re far from every other place to stay. We deliver an amazing guest experience that is truly authentic Texan, personal, and character-rich. Doves Rest Cabins is truly a unique base camp from which to explore one of the world’s most transformative spot – Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

Doves Rest Cabins is ideal for travelers who believe small is beautiful, and see travel not as something one does, but rather identifies it as part of who one is.

If private and quiet surrounded by nature with friendly wildlife nestled in your own little world only a few minutes away to the second largest canyon in America interests you, then you’re in the right place!

Gorgeous

Lovely cabin made even better by coffee, robes and outdoor hot tub overlooking the canyon. Pricey, but probably worth it for the privacy and peace and quiet. The goat visitors were always a treat!

Fantastic accommodation & locale

  • 5 of 5

Top notch cabin with spectacular views of Palo Duro Canyon. We had a very special family holiday stay and enjoyed every day of our stay. The cabin is wonderfully comfortable and furnished. The hot tub with its view of the canyon was especially popular. We had an absolutely wonderful time.

A beautiful cabin with an outstanding view!

  • 5 of 5

Our time spent at SkyHouse was perfect family time. The cabin is wonderfully made and beautifully furnished. Our boys especially enjoyed the hot tub and the wood-burning fire place. Our 10 year-old is already asking when we will go back!

We also loved Palo Duro Canyon - especially the Lighthouse Trail. It was wonderful to have our cabin so close to the entrance of the park.

Outstanding views and more than a "cabin"

  • 5 of 5

I'm a returning guest. Doves Rest has created a wonderful place for rest and relaxation on the rim of Sunday Canyon. And when your energy returns after the R&R, you can hike or ride your bike minutes away in Palo Duro Canyon State park. It is a wonderful location and the Doves Rest team goes the extra mile to make sure your stay is comfortable. I highly recommend it.

great view, byof (flyswatter)

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here for a short trip to Palo Duro. Very nice comfortable house, very close to entrance to Palo Duro, felt very welcome. Hot tub is hot. Shower leaks and the soap dispenser falls off making it very slick, so recommend you bring your own bath products and put a towel in the bottom of the shower so you don't fall. No sharp cooking knives so if you plan to cook bring a knife or two. Enormous propane grill. Flies are bad, especially if you build a fire until you are able to close the damper, the flyswatter provided was tiny, recommend you bring your own flyswatter. Artwork seems a bit violent, so tried to just keep our focus on the beautiful view. Very very clean. Couldn't figure out how to work all the entertainment options. Overpriced compared to other places comparable or better we have stayed. But there aren't many options if you want to stay on the canyon and don't book a year in advance so overall very satisfied.
