About the property

4 Bedroom Octagonal House Near Town And Golf/ Well-Behaved Pets Welcome

This modern, spacious split-entry octagonal house has three bedrooms and a loft that can comfortably sleep 8.

This home features a large kitchen with full amenities (microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster oven, griddle, and everything a chef could desire). The main floor features an open living area with a cozy gas fireplace, a sunny breakfast nook, and a full dining room with a table that extends to feed up to ten. (Broadband internet and Direct TV are included.)

Stools at the kitchen counter make it easy to chat with the chef during food prep while the rest of your group relaxes on the Danish modern living room couches and leather chairs.

The main floor master bedroom has a king-size bed, while the two downstairs bedrooms have queens. The fourth bedroom is a third-floor cupola, also octagonal, with a double futon and plenty of space to spread out. The main floor bath has a tub/shower, and the downstairs bath has a shower stall.

A den on the main floor leads to a spacious screened porch, where in the summer you can enjoy an evening glass of wine or dinner on the 55-year-old fiberglassed picnic table. Feel free to grill on the gas grill tucked beneath the porch.

Though this home is surrounded by trees, it sits on the Gunflint Trail across from the Gunflint Hills Golf Course, a challenging 9-hole course (par 34). We defy you to complete this 3,030 yard course with the same ball you started with.

Since Cook County often gets a lot of snow, you'll have the use of a two-car garage to protect your vehicles. The PincushionTrails are just a mile away, great for cross-country skiing, hiking and mountain biking.

A one-mile hike up the road behind the house brings you to the picturesque Maple Hill Church and Graveyard, a segway into local history.

It’s just a five-minute drive down the hill to Grand Marais and its picturesque Lake Superior Harbor. Enjoy a walk out to Artist’s Point or meander through town to browse the many gift shops and art galleries. On the main street you’ll find the famous dry goods store, Joynes Ben Franklin. Grand Marais also boasts a host of fine restaurants, though the most well-known are The World’s Best Donuts and Sven and Ole’s Pizza. Go figure!

Who can say it better than our local tourism folks--here's their message about Cook County:

Encounter Minnesota's most extraordinary place

Life is bigger here in Cook County, MN along legendary Highway 61. Here in the tip of Minnesota’s Arrowhead, amidst the north shore of Lake Superior and the pristine Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW), you can go bigger, play harder and relax better than anywhere else in the Midwest.

Enjoy Lake Superior – the world’s largest freshwater lake, visit Minnesota’s tallest mountain peaks and highest waterfall, ski the largest ski resort in the Midwest and enjoy its longest and most scenic biking trails.

Head to Lutsen, Tofte and Schroeder to hike the craggy Sawtooth Mountains and Eagle Mountain, Minnesota’s highest peak. Rent bikes and ride the family-friendly Gitchi-Gami State Trail. Or dare our heart-pounding singletrack.

Discover hidden treasures in the artsy harbor town of Grand Marais. Go sailing on Lake Superior. Watch the sunset behind the lighthouse while savoring some of our local artisan cuisine. (Our award-winning eateries have been featured on the Food Network.) And discover why Grand Marais was recently awarded the title of "Coolest Small Town in America!"

Drive the scenic Gunflint Trail to look for moose (we have over 4,000) or head out on a Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) adventure. Escape from it all by sleeping under a blanket of stars.

Follow scenic Highway 61 to Grand Portage where the US and Canada meet and find the tallest waterfall in the state of Minnesota - "High Falls" in Grand Portage State Park. Discover the Ojibwa culture, learn about voyager history and, hopefully, find a little bit of luck.

We’ll leave the northern lights on for you.
