About the property

Island Getaway - 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with panoramic view of Cherokee Sound

Welcome to your tropical retreat! Stylish and comfortable, Tortuga Point House was completed in 2009. Catch the island breeze out on the open deck while basking in the warm sun and enjoying an unencumbered panoramic view of Cherokee Sound. The house is at the end of the lane, set away from the bustle of Marsh Harbour but not too far from its amenities, it is perfect for that peaceful island vacation!

The 8 mile white sand beach of Casuarina Point is about a 10 minute walk down two sandy streets, about the equivalent of two city blocks. You can reach the beach even faster by kayak or boat!

Two double kayaks are provided for your enjoyment. Adventure even further, or experience the amazing bonefishing, by renting our classic, 1960s 13ft Boston Whaler with electric start motor. Schools of bone fish are often seen in the canal and occasionally can be caught right off your private dock, just steps from the house!

Arranging a deep sea, bonefish or snorkeling charter? A guide can pick you up from your private dock - with mahi, tuna, wahoo, sailfish and other deep sea fishing less than 10 minutes away.

The large windows and vaulted cypress paneled ceiling allows for beautiful views and radiant light throughout the day in the great room and master bedroom. An eclectic mix of artwork is found throughout the house. The great room encompasses the open kitchen, dining and seating areas. The kitchen is fully stocked with an expansive granite island with seating for two. The adjacent dining table seats six. A comfy Tommy Bahama couch and two club chairs face a flat screen television.

The patio/ deck combination overlooks the private dock along a canal bordered by mangroves. Under the covered patio, you'll find a dining table with seating for four along with a Ducane grill. Beyond the patio is an open deck; the perfect spot for relaxing with your favorite tropical drink while enjoying the late day sun bouncing off the waters.

A separate, private deck is also found off the master bedroom. Fine furnishings include a queen size bed, bureau and flat screen television. Bathroom with uniquely tiled shower and walk in closet complete the master suite. Two additional bedrooms have west facing views over wetlands. Queen size bed, bureau and closet in one. Double futon, closet and flat screen television with DVD player in the other. A second full bathroom with uniquely tiled tub/ shower combo is near the bedrooms. Hotel quality towels and linens provided. The enclosed washer and dryer are adjacent to this second bedroom.

Book your stay now for Tortuga Point House - a fabulous get away for small family gatherings, fishing, kayaking, shelling, boating, diving, snorkeling, swimming, beach combing, exploring or just getting away from it all.

About Donna Macklin

We have resided in the Pacific Northwest for 35 years and raised our two children here. Casuarina Point has become our tropical getaway from the relentless gray weather of the winters here. Fred is an avid fisherman and was drawn to the abundant fishing opportunities while Donna is happy simply to enjoy the sparkling colors of the area.

Donna Macklin purchased this house in 2005

Why Donna Macklin chose South Abaco

We were drawn to Abaco for its fishing and acquatic activities. Having visited several Out Islands of the Bahamas, we settled on Casaurina Point for both the commanding view from this particular property along with the many amenities of Marsh Harbour.

What makes this house unique

Having built this house ourselves over 4-5 years, we were able to include amenities important to us such as an open floor plan, cathedral ceilings and tropical themed mosaic tiling throughout the house. And, of course, this house is all about the view!

Great Trip!

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful place to stay. Loved being on the canal and having the access with a boat to go out fishing. The house met our expectations and the scenery was amazing. Only thing we wished we had was direct walking access to the beach.

Two Thumbs Up

  • 5 of 5

Not quite exactly as represented as the house was nicer than the pictures showed it to be. Beautiful house. Beautiful Sunrises. Away from the busyness of Marsh Harbor but not too far from it's amenities. Private but not too secluded. LOTS of Bonefish.

Owners were very helpful and informative and the caretaker was right down the road. The immediate area reminded me of South Florida of 45 years ago. Great set up.

Great Time

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time here. The location, for us, was the best part. We were at the end of the road so it was very quiet. No cars driving back and forth and no other tourists walking past the house. The house has a nice open floor plan and there was plenty of room for the 3 of us. We were glad we rented the boat and used it numerous times to visit the little islands and some reefs not far from the house. Would definitely recommend the boat if you are undecided. We also enjoyed fishing in the canal and our son made great use of the kayaks. We would definitely rent this house again.

A Christmas To Remember

  • 5 of 5

My one Christmas wish was to relax, put my feet in the sand, enjoy nature, and above all, connect with my teenage sons and husband. My wish came true and then some. Christmas morning we put on our Santa hats and paddled to the flats where we were greeted by starfish as big as my head and beautiful white sand at the point. My flyfisherman of a husband made friends with Marty, the local guide from nearby Cherokee while property managers Rex and Judie helped my 16-year-old split open some prized coconuts. Because this property is situated "away from it all," the night skies were brilliant. No light pollution to compete with the stars. Simply magical. I highly recommend staying here if you and your family are seeking a "peaceful reset" from hectic everyday life. Owners Donna and Fred were so helpful and easy to work with. We can't wait to come back.

Wonderful, Highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

Vacationing in Abaco was an amazing experience. The accommodations were superb with a large open floor plan and fully furnished kitchen to cook your 'catch of the day'. The white sandy beaches with crystal clear water is truly a tropical paradise. We highly recommend his vacation home.

Casuarina Point is a quiet, low key residential community on Cherokee sound, 17 miles south of Marsh Harbour. Cherokee Sound boasts shallow, tranquil water protected from the ocean by barrier reefs. Starfish, conch, occasional sea turtles, and various other sea creatures are readily seen in the clear, crystal water and the local blue holes.

Cherokee Sound is a bonefishing, deep sea, diving and snorkeling destination. One flat is a short walk from the house with many more accessible by kayak or boat.
