About the property

580 square foot beautifully decorated in country style cottage near Bryce Canyon

Cannonville is located under the eastern escarpment of Bryce Canyon National Park. It is off of Scenic Byway 12, just 12 miles past Bryce Canyon. Our area is surrounded by red rock outcroppings. Kodachrome State Park is located 10 miles down our main road in town. The Bunk House includes two queen beds and a bunkbed in about 900 square feet. We include a Pack n Play for babies. The large bathroom includes tub and shower and changing area. The bathroom/dressing room is supplied with plush towels, and other amenities. The beds are comfortable with fresh pressed linens upon your arrival. The loft sleeps 3 older children. Sleeping bags preferred. (if bedding needed, please ask) There is a small kitchenette with dishes, utensils, pots and pans and a sink. The toaster/oven is convenient. A small refrigerator (no freezer) includes water and basic condiments. Fresh baked Chocolate Chip Cookies welcome guests to our Country Bunkhouse. There is an available grill if needed outside. (request before arriving) The Country Bunkhouse includes a 55 inch Television screen for TV programs and DVD's, Blue Ray/games as well as a 45” TV in the second bedroom. Several DVD's (family oriented) are included as well as board games/puzzles and children's toys. The Country Bunkhouse has large ceiling fans and a brand new Air Conditioning system. Forced air heating is very efficient. We don't have many extremely hot days and our nights are cool and beautiful. Sleeping with open windows is safe here. However, winter is cold and often snowy. Our night sky is stunning, if you have time to sit on the swing outside to enjoy it. The Grand Staircase Visitors Center is in the center of town near the town park for questions about hikes, weather and places to go. Don’t hesitate to ask us (the Scoffield’s) for any suggestions or for any items you might need.

About Cherie Scoffield

We inherited this 100 year old property and moved here in 2003. We are retired, and working locally. My husband is the Garfield County Tourism Representative around the world for our beautiful area. We raised seven children and now have 19 grandchildren. We were born and raised in Utah but lived in several other states. My husband is a Navy Captain and is very patriotic. We love yard work, hiking, the canyon, and the close knit community we live in.

Why Cherie Scoffield chose Cannonville

We go to great lengths to insure you a wonderful stay at the Country Bunkhouse. The Bunkhouse sparkles and we deep clean after every guest. We respect your privacy and welcome children. A swing set is available for use and large lawn area for other games. We have a fire circle out beyond the Bunkhouse with a stage for family performances. Guest are welcome use it upon request. We will provide the wood and matches for the fires.

What makes this cottage unique

Our home is located under the escarpment of Bryce Canyon which is 12 miles away. The drive to and from is always an enjoyable one. The views from our home feature red rock formations and the white mountains as well as the small town country setting with sheep, cows, horses etc. It is a peaceful small town of only 150-200 residents, quiet, beautiful and a place of healing from the noise and crowds and fast pace of city life.

Individual tours available upon request. My husband is a tour guide for the Bryce Canyon area as well as the hikes. We recommend a day hike at Willis Creek, off Scutumpa Road. The hike is for all ages. Other hikes for families in this area can be found at Kodachrome State Park, Mossy Cave and Arches. We have a Wild Life Museum about 1 mile before reaching Bryce Canyon and several trail ride businesses for ATV's or horses are available. Ruby's Inn and the Pines restaurants are near Bryce for delicious meals. The Pizza Place in Tropic is also a great place for family dinners. The Market in Tropic is the place for supplies. Rustlers Restaurant is next door. In Cannonville there is a food truck for hot meals located at the Grand Staircase Inn. Hiking the red rocks in town is popular too. The town park is great for picnics and playing and the Grand Staircase Visitors Center is open to questions about hikes, weather reports and places to go.

Great autumn stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the country bunkhouse. Everything was clean and set out nicely on our arrival. It was such a homey place and it was an unexpected treat to find delicious soft chocolate chip cookies on the table waiting for us. We enjoyed the hikes we went on both in Bryce and Red Canyon, as well as at Kodachrome Basin. Night photography in this area was really good - we took some in Bryce NP and near the old Georgetown cemetery just a short drive away. The kitchen is simple and small as advertised, but was sufficient to meet our needs. We did not use the loft, but kids would love it up there! The furnace worked very quickly to heat up the place on the chilly October mornings. We did heed the owner's advice to drive slow at night. We did see a fox or medium size animal cross the rode in front of us so can attest to the animal activity at night.

Owner's Response: You two came at the best time of the year!!!thank you for this review. We enjoyed having you here. Come again. By the way, my relatives RIP at the Georgetown cemetery that they started as part of Georgetown. I’m not sure if you saw the former town. It is just around the bend in the road from the cemetery. 😂

Very clean and convenient accommodation

  • 5 of 5

The Bunkhouse was a great place for us. Extremely convenient for Bryce and Kodachrome, with all the facilities you'd want. Be prepared for the largest bed to also end up being the sitting area for the family but, in this respect, it's just like a motel room. There are other chairs and a kitchen table dining set for additional seating. Younger kids will love the loft area.

Great First Time VBRO experience

  • 5 of 5

This was my first VBRO experience and it was great. We were two people. We each had our own room. The beds and bedding was quite comfortable. Plenty of towels in the bathroom. Quite a spacious bathroom. There was a little kitchenette although we didn't do any cooking. Have a refrigerator to put our hiking snacks in was nice. The location was not too far to drive to Bryce Canyon. Although we didn't use the TV, they provided plenty of movies if we wished to watch them. Wi fi was available although cell service was touch and go in the cottage itself. Highly recommend this place if you're hiking in the Bryce Canyon area.

Clean and very well appointed. Classy even. Provided everything we needed and then some. This was, without a doubt, the best place we stayed on our 24 day road trip this fall.

Charming, clean, and convenient

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented the bunkhouse for our visit to Bryce Canyon. The house was very spacious for two people and immaculate. The front room with the kitchenette and dining table has a queen bed and a loft area for kids, then there is a bedroom down the hall which has a queen bed and a bunk bed. There are doors to shut off the front room from the hallway so if someone was sleeping in the front room they could have complete privacy with shared access to the hallway with the bathroom. The bathroom is very spacious. There is not much dedicated area for storing luggage so I imagine it may get a bit crowded with more people and their luggage.

The owners live on the property and were available by phone/text if we needed them but we felt like we had complete privacy. We didn’t spend as much time in Bryce as we had planned due to unexpected cold weather but Cannonville is also conveniently located to other sights so we enjoyed a full day exploring the Escalante area which was 10-20 degrees warmer.

It was a nice place and if I ever return to the area I would rent it again!

Amazing place and owners!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the bunk house. Everything was beautiful, clean and so comfortable. Location was great to many of the parks. The warm cookies were delicious. All the decorating and amenities were top notch.

But, the best thing was the hospitality and caring of Bill and Cherie. We hit a deer with our rental car our first night. We were very blessed to have not been hurt. Bill helped us get in touch who we needed to so we could continue our visits to the awesome parks. Would highly recommend to stay here for your visit to southern Utah! Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful home with my husband and I as we celebrated our 40 th wedding anniversary!
