About Will Lougheed

This cottage was purchasd by my wife and I in 2013, one year after we were married. I was born and raised in Burlington, Ontario while my wife was born and raised in Huntsville. We met working summer jobs and that was it. After school I made the decision to move to Huntsville permanently. We fell in love, travelled, worked, saved, and got married at Hillside Farm just outside Huntsville in 2012.

In the fall of 2012 my father became ill with cancer and passed in February. He provided for my wife and I enough for the down payment on this cottage. The previous owners had it in the family for 25 years and they felt it was time to pass it on. My wife and I look forward to making it a family treasure for generations to come. My dad's name was Fred so this cottage has been appropriately named after him as "Freddie's"

It is a much loved family cottage, we know it's the classic cottage but you don't have to worry about sandy feet or a little dirt! One day we hope to rebuild the main cottage keeping the same footprint and similar layout, just allowing for year round use.

Will Lougheed purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Will Lougheed chose Lake of Bays

Growing up in Burlington, Ontario I started coming up to Algonquin park as a teenager. I worked at Algonquin Outfitters, guiding trips, driving trucks and working in the backshop. I always dreamed of what it would be like to own a cottage on Oxtongue Lake. When this property came up for sale we new instantly that this was the cottage we had been looking for.

What makes this cottage unique

This piece of property is unlike so many others. The cottage is only steps from the beautiful sandy shoreline, and the bunkie (the reason we fell in love with this property) is even closer! It is the perfect cottage for families with young ones. My wife and I have sat on the dock and enjoyed many sunrises with our coffee. The perfect way to start the day!

The next best thing is it's proximity to TWO provincial parks. We have enjoyed the 40 minute paddle to spectacular Ragged Falls right from the end of our dock. And sometimes we will jump in the car and drive a few minutes to World Famous Algonquin Park. This park is filled with day hikes, beaches, falls, so many chances to see wildlife, you name it!

Perfect location for a family gathering !

  • 5 of 5

It was a wonderful location - Children, grandchildren, and grandparents plus pets, all had a wonderful time with many treasured memories to take home ! It was ideal having the bunkie and cottage, giving some options for sleeping and play, as well as still being close to the water ! My favourite time was coffee on the dock in the morning. Early risers had time to enjoy the sunrise, watch the baby ducks and geese and do some fishing ! Driving down the lane to the cottage was through a picturesque little woodlot. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well stocked with every appliance needed,. Swimming, canoeing, kayaking and long walks were enjoyed by all. The evening favourite was the campfire overlooking the lake. It was a wonderful, relaxing week.. Would have liked to stay longer. We will definitely return for another Family Gathering next year !

We had an amazing time during the last week of August, 2016. It was so quiet (no highways or air-plains sounds :)). Swimming, fishing (pikes, bass etc), mushrooms, tree-top-tracking - you name it...Perfect place for a family with kids, you friends can come by to visit you :) Everything is clean and nice.

Thank You so much, again!!!

Fabulous, peaceful, cozy oasis.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful two week stay at Freddie's cottage. We arrived through a small wooded area that muffles the sound of cars from the road. Cottage is rustic and cozy, a "don't take your shoes off" kind of place. Very well equipped kitchen. Wonderful touches to make you feel at home, including the "welcome" on the chalk board in the kitchen, and 3 vases with fresh flowers. Great and comfortable bunkie, equipped with mini fridge, microwave, as well as equipment for water activities (life jackets, first aid, toys, etc). Owners very conscientious and responsive to questions, and any issues/concerns. Wonderful to offer such a magical place to families traveling with pets, especially large furry dogs. Outside chairs and fire pit were so inviting, we used both each evening. Dock with Muskoka chairs a great place to welcome each day with coffee, wildlife and breathtaking sunrise. Kayaks provided were great fun to explore lake and surrounding areas. Canoe also available. Clothes line provided to dry swimsuits, towels, etc. Close proximity to Henrietta's for delicious baked goods, Dwight grocery for excellent food and superb meat counter. Only need to go into Hunstville for laundry. We didn't use the TV, or looked at newspapers. Freddie's Cottage is the perfect setting to completely disconnect from outside world. Hubby and I were even able to read numerous books during our stay-a rare indulgence.

We had a wonderful two weeks, and have already reserved for next summer. Many thanks to Will, Bridget and Wes for sharing their slice of paradise with us.

One suggestion: found ironing board but no iron. Would it be possible to have one in the future?
