The Hungry Tortuga is a perfect summer rental for families. With a casual layout, lots of sun, and nearby beach access, The Hungry Tortuga is a place for family and friends to gather, enjoy eachother’s company and immerse themselves in the beauty of the area. Think afternoon BBQing on the patio, lazy days on the beautiful beach and swimming in the Russian River, daytrips to zip lining though redwoods, to the Sonoma Coast, to local wineries, or into the charming nearby towns of Duncan’s Mills and Monte Rio.
The Hungry Tortuga is a two story historic home with modern conveniences and lots of charm. The lower level, recently remodeled, is updated and polished, while the upper level retains all the flavor and fun of The River’s heyday.
The lower level is the entrance level. The front door is just one step up from the patio and opens into the kitchen. The kitchen has been recently remodeled with new appliances (no dishwasher), custom cabinets and a large bar counter with bar stools. The kitchen is open to the living room, with flat screen TV, and dining area, table seats 6, bar counter seats 2. Off the living/dining area is a bedroom with a queen bed. Off the living/dining area the opposite direction is a short hallway with a full bathroom, supply closet, and back door (the quickest way from the downstairs to the upstairs).
Exterior stairs lead from the lower level to the upper level. The upstairs, with its steeply pointed open-beam ceiling and small adjacent rooms, feels like a clubhouse or secret fort. While an unusual space, it has undeniable charm and a relaxing vibe. Since there are no doors, just curtains, separating the sleeping areas, this is a casual sleeping arrangement. Guests with kids or groups of friends will be pleased by the number of beds. There is a double futon in the living area, with its loungy style and flat screen TV, a queen bed in the side bedroom, and a twin bed and a twin day bed located in a little nook off the back of the living space. The upstairs also has a full bathroom.
The main outdoor living area is the front patio, with outdoor dining for 8, a charcoal BBQ, a hammock, additional seating and a fire pit. There is a good mix of sun and shade, with sun in the morning and shade provided by the large redwood tree in the afternoon. The Hungry Tortuga is a fully-fenced property in the historic neighborhood of Villa Grande. The back side of the property runs adjacent to the path to the Villa Grande Beach, one of the nicest beaches on the Russian River. Path access is just one door down.
*Kayak is seasonal, available May through September, depending on river conditions.
MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY: The maximum occupancy at The Hungry Tortuga is 8.
QUIET HOURS: Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.
PARKING: On-site parking is permitted for a maximum of 3 vehicles; there is space for up to 2 cars in front of the house; street parking is available on a first-come first-served basis. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.
RIVER ACCESS: There is a path to Villa Grand Beach just one house down to the right.
LAYOUT: The Hungry Tortuga has exterior stairs between the lower and upper levels. The upstairs sleeping areas are divided by curtains.
STANDARD AMENITIES NOT INCLUDED: The kitchen does not have a dishwasher.
WASHER/DRYER: The washer/dryer is shared with the house next door and is located in the basement of the next door house
STAIRS: The lower level has just one step to the front door. This level contains the kitchen, living and dining room and one bedroom and bathroom.
NEARBY FAMILIY ACTIVITIES: Movie Theater (The Rio Theatre), Skate Park, Playground, Town Beach with Snackbar and Boat Rentals, Sonoma Canopy Tours (ziplining), Armstrong Woods State Park, Sonoma Coast State Park, plus plenty of family-friendly restaurants and shops.
ADDITIONAL FEES: Cleaning Fee, 11% Taxes on Rent and Cleaning, Damage Protection - see below. Optional Travel Insurance is available at the time of reservation.
DAMAGE PROTECTION:Guests have a choice between a $49 Vacation Rental Damage Protection Fee or a $1000 Refundable Security Deposit. The Vacation Rental Damage Protection is strongly recommended and is the option most guests choose. It covers up to $3000 of accidental damage and can be used for many common guest accidents, such as an excessively dirty hot tub or pet-related damage. A $30 Processing Fee is added to reservations with the Security Deposit option

4 Night Minimum July and August.
Week Minimum the first week of July and the first week of August.
