Overview

Photos and Description of the Accomack County vacation house rental

2+bedroom, 2 bath waterfront with great views and lots of windows and decks

Unlike Chincoteague, this is a rural setting - the neighborhood is eight houses along Metompkin Bay. But it's an easy half-hour trip to Chincoteague if you'd rather go to the beach there. Our beach is a 15-minute kayak trip away (there are two sea kayaks included in the rental). There are also lot of little creeks in the marsh to explore by kayak. If you have a boat, there's a public boat ramp close by. Our neighbors often fish in the bay, and surf fishing is great at certain times of year. We have crab traps - the crabbing is pretty good off the dock.

If you are birders, there are all sorts of places to go (ask me). Onancock (10 minutes away) is where we go for nice restaurants and charming little shops. Lots of other attractions are shown in this listing.

We have decks all over the place - two on the water side and one on the land side, in addition to a screened porch - lovely views in all directions. The house is almost all windows on the water side, to take advantage of these wonderful views. The living room/dining room/kitchen is open plan and on the water side of the house. A bedroom, bath, and office are on the road side of the house. The office can be used as a third bedroom if an inflatable mattress is used. The bathroom houses a washer and drier that are hidden behind doors. The master bedroom and bath occupy the upstairs, and have an even better view of the marshes, bay, and even a glimpse of the ocean. The bottom floor is a garage, and has a laundry sink and extra refrigerator.

We're about to sell the property, and have just gotten an appraisal. I'd be happy to send it if you're interested in buying the house.

Notes:
Many of the coastal bays are shallow at low tide, whereas the creeks wandering through the marsh tend to be deep. The mouth of our creek can be shallow even for a kayak near low tide, so keep an eye on the tide clock and/or check the tide predictions for Folly Creek (nearby) on http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov. The deepest place is heading south, then circling back toward the northeast corner of the bay for beach access. Note that the google map shows a channel behind the island, but that has closed over, so it's now a short hike from the place you paddle to to the marked path to the beach. This path is marked with signs telling you to stay below the high tide line, and no dogs allowed. This is to protect nesting piping plovers and other endangered birds. See the photo that shows this and an alternate kayak route.
