3 bedroom 3 bath home with a pool in the Historic Center of San Miguel

This beautiful 400 year old colonial home is on one of the best streets in the historic center of San Miguel de Allende, just 1.5 blocks from the "Jardin" or main square. The best shops and restaurants in San Miguel are just steps from the front door.

The house includes 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms:

The master bedroom is on the ground floor and has a king size bed and a fireplace. The master bathroom is en-suite and includes double sinks and separate tub and shower.

The guest bedrooms and bath are on the second floor. One has a queen size bed and a lovely balcony overlooking the front patio. The other has two twin beds, a desk, a balcony plus a tree-lined private terrace with two lounge chairs.

The guest bath has double sinks, a large tub/shower combination, a toilet and a bidet.

There is a central stereo system with speakers in the main entertaining areas. Just plug in your iPod or MP3 player and you are all set.

The house has a living room, library and dining room each with a fireplace. There is also a cozy morning room off the kitchen. The third bathroom is located just off the morning room and very close to the pool. This bath also includes a shower.

The kitchen is very well appointed and has a large commercial range.

There is an outdoor "sala" (living room), an outdoor kitchen with gas grill and an outdoor dining area.

The house has a heated pool located in a very private and sunny patio just a few steps away from the outdoor kitchen and dining area. This area is perfect for year-round outdoor entertaining.

The roof terrace has spectacular views of San Miguel and the mountains beyond.

The house is staffed with a maid 6 days a week and a part time pool/garden man. In addition to keeping the house clean, the maid can cook one meal a day. Groceries are not included but she will do the shopping for you if you would like.

We have created an Owner's Guide to San Miguel for our guests which lists our favorite shops and restaurants as well as other information. It is in PDF format and is sent once a booking is confirmed. A printed copy will be in the home as well.

About Rob Lewis

I am an architect and my partner is an interior designer. We bought our first home in San Miguel in 1988, and have been living and working here full time since 1992. We have built and remodeled many homes for ourselves and clients both here and in the USA. We travel extensively and enjoy collecting art and objects from all over the world to bring back to our homes in San Miguel, San Francisco and Vermont. We also enjoy good food and wine, and spend a great deal of time cooking and entertaining.

Why Rob Lewis chose Centro Historico

We fell with San Miguel on our first trip to visit friends in 1984. The whole town is an historical landmark, which means that even with development the colonial center could never be changed. It is such an easy walking city and so picturesque. From our first trip we fantasized about buying on the many colonial houses. Our dream came true just 3 years later and we've never looked back.

What makes this house unique

We chose this property after having lived in another colonial house just a half a block up the street. It is in the historic center but because of the long shape of the lot, we have a great deal of privacy and quiet in the back. It was a perfect place to have a nice pool with lots of sun, but still live in a historical home. The property had not been lived in for 40 years, so we were able to do all of the upgrades that we wanted while still respecting the colonial integrity of the property.

The house includes a maid/cook that works 6 days a week from 9am -4pm. Her hours can be flexible; she start later or leave earlier if you would like. She can cook one meal per day as well as keep up with the general house keeping. She is happy to shop and cook for you, but you pay for all groceries. If you would like more, we will gladly arrange it for you.

Spectacular 400 Year Old Colonial

Warm in the winter

Not only is this perfectly charming house on the best street in SMA, it is just 1 1/2 blocks from the Jardin (central square), it has the most efficient and delightful housekeeper and cook Vicky, and is most importantly warm in the winter. Having spent a number of years visiting San Miguel both in houses and hotels this is the first time Judi and I can say we were pleasantly warm due to the heat and circulation of the livingroom’s Gas fireplace. When nights are in the 40F it is a joy to come home to a warm cozy house.

For all those reasons we will come back to 12 ALDAMA.

We have only one cautionary note to share; if stairs are an issue this is not the house for you. Due to the nature of the exquisite renovation of this 400 year old classic house every room has steps to the next level.

Fantastic Home Base in San Miguel

This is a spectacular property. It is very large- has three very comfortable rooms and a multitude of additional common spaces- all meticulously kept and tastefully decorated. There are a lot of Mexican decorative touches as well as a world traveler atmosphere in the decor. There is a nice sized swimming pool and multiple balconies- the rooftop has a nice balcony overlooking the town, the Cathedral spires are a few blocks away offering a nice place to sit in the evening.

Vicki, the caregiver and chef, keeps everything impeccable. The home is so nice we stayed for dinner one night. Vicki cooked for us in the afternoon and left everything ready for us to re-heat at our convenience.

The property is worth every bit of what you are paying.

Best Location, Elegant furnishings and very well managed

I rented this house for some family who were in town attending my wedding. We also rented 4 other homes around town. This house is lovely, well appointed and fantastically managed by Rob and his team. The staff at the house was attentive and made our guests feel very welcome in the house and in San Miguel (in general). Robs sends out a comprehensive guest manual and pre-visit order form to assure you have what need for the stay. The location is the best in town, but can be noisy due to the close proximity of the main church in town. Whether your are visiting for a weekend or staying for "the season" this home is 5-stars..

Hidden Hills

The Perfect Location!!!!!

From the moment we booked the place Rob was very organized and attentive to our needs. The house is perfectly located and very well appointed. While Vicki does not speak much if any english her warmth and wanting to please shined through. The meals she made us were amazing, we really had to think twice about going out to eat knowing that the meal would not be as good as eating at the house. This was our first trip to the area and can't wait to return!

Location, location, location!

Magnificent home with detailed thought throughout. Location is very central to most of the best restaurants. Homeowner is very responsive. Household staff is wonderful and very kind. A very authentic SMA home with numerous outdoor and indoor spaces. Absolutely beautiful!

This home is just a few steps from everything in San Miguel. It's furnishings are top of the line...beautifully done. Viki is gracious and most helpful. It was a fabulous week.
