Simply Amazing

  • 5 of 5

I have to agree with all the previous reviews. I love Port Hood and am originally from Cape Breton, but took the opportunity to have a get away with my family and host student from Turkey. The house is immaculate and the view spectacular. Just to sit and have a coffee on the wrap around deck was luxury for me. Laura was simply amazing to deal with, so friendly and attentive to every need. Thank you Laura for a fantastic stay!

Owner's Response: Hi Kim! I am so pleased that you enjoyed your time away and that you chose to enjoy your coffee on my deck. I just love it when guests appreciate the house and the view as much as I do. It was a pleasure having you and your loved ones. Come again any time! All the best! P.S. Brenda walked in the house after you left and was so grateful how well you looked after it. XO Laura

Close to Cabot Trail. Great Home base for Nova Scotia.

Lovely house, well appointed, with a few quirks! We spent several evenings on the porch looking out at the beautiful Port Hood Island and remarkable sunsets. The kitchen was well-appointed, beds were very comfortable, bathrooms top-notch, all spotless.

Beautiful for So Many Reasons

  • 5 of 5

This is a special place. It's special because of the home itself, Laura the owner, the view, the people we met, and so many other things. For us it was an ideal location to arrive at after driving from Ontario over the previous couple of days.

The town of Port Hood is off the beaten path (Cabot Trail) which is saying something because the Cabot Trail is not really a busy route as it is, relative to other tourist destinations.

The home is located across from the Fishermen's Co-op and two minutes’ walk from the Port Hood Food Co-op. You couldn’t ask for better shopping convenience. A highlight was ordering lobster from the Fishermen's Co-op, which they cooked for us. I've never done take-out lobster before but eating our dinner on the deck overlooking the water and watching the sunset ranks as one of my best dining experiences.

There are many other reasons I would go back which are too numerous to list. Let’s put it this way, I wouldn’t change a thing about the home if it was mine. That kind of sums it up. It felt like home the moment we arrived.

While there we hiked part of the Celtic Shores coastal trail which is accessible a few minutes from the home. It's a great walking, biking, running trail that runs for 92 kms. On the part we hiked we followed a path that led to the water. We were the only people on the entire stretch of the beach.

If you're looking for an authentic, relaxing, beautiful, one-of-a-kind experience then come here. We stayed for two nights but as we left we agreed that it would have been a great place to stay for a week as a home base for day trips. Next time I hope.

perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this home. It is spotless clean and had everything we needed. The back deck with gorgeous views of water and sunset made it special. A long soak in the claw foot tub at the end of a day on the Cabot Trail was soothing. The Clove and Hitch restaurant nearby was great. We also made it to the Red Shoe Pub, just a few miles down the road. Everyone so friendly and helpful. The homeowner, Laura, couldn't be more welcoming and responsive. I want to go back and stay longer!!

Wonderful waterfront!

  • 5 of 5

Laura's home was just perfect for 5 retirees to relax and enjoy the views, the beach, the sunsets, and the wonderful Irish, Scottish and French music in the Port Hood area!

We were there for 4 nights and took full advantage of all the amenities, including the outdoor lobster cooking area under the deck. The washer and dryer were great for getting things clean before we headed on to our next location.

We highly recommend this lovely home to anyone looking for a perfect location for day trips on the Cabot Trail, visits to the local pubs or checking out the local museums and interpretive centers!

Laura was easy to reach and always responded immediately. By the end of our stay it felt like we were friends.
