About randy castro

I have lived in the great state of Washington my whole life. Grew up in Olympia, WA and went to school in Eastern, WA. My wife was born in the Philippines and moved to Canada later in life. We are happily married and have two children. Spending time together as a family is priceless. We are currently living in Skagit County and wanted to find a get away place to recharge. We looked and really grew in love for the water and the quaint and fun town called Birch Bay. We found a newly built cabin and wanted to make it feel special and inviting. So the first thing we did when we got the key was to transform this cabin into a cozy-beach like retreat. A year later I added a fence around the backyard. We made sure every detail makes our place one of a kind and enjoyable.

randy castro purchased this cabin in 2014

Why randy castro chose Birch Bay

We wanted something newer but also cozy. Sometimes we think bigger is better. This cabin feels so warm and inviting. It promotes you to spend time together and enjoy each others company. Also being so close to lot's of things to do and near the water was a huge decision for us to pick this place.

What makes this cabin unique

We just really loved the cabin with the woods behind our place. We added a nice backyard fence for a more privacy and relaxing experience. Besides that it's a great place and we have priced it so it is also affordable and a great value for the cost. We both believe the cabin had great upside and we have already done quite a bit to it in the short time we owned it. We just want to keep enhancing it year after year.

Very nice, clean cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is very clean, lots of room and nicely decorated with great knick knacks for the beachy/seashore theme. We had a nice stay except for it rained our entire time (kinda standard for this time of year), luckily Bellingham is close for shopping & movie theater since combing the beach wasn't an option. Only draw back is the 4 way intersections does get busy especially at end of the day & some vehicles have loud mufflers. Adding a small corner cabinets or table in bathroom would be helpful for guests to set their stuff on (makeup bag, lotion, curling iron etc) instead of keeping in bedroom. But will definitely recommend this very well kept cottage to friends & family.

Enjoyed this charming little house!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed staying at this clean house in the country, sparsely furnished, which also was appreciated. It suited our needs for a good night's sleep, the house being perfect for 2 people. Convenient to the beach; not far from Blaine or Birch Bay, and well kept up. Randy is very helpful, if you run into a problem. Truly enjoyed looking out at the woods during morning exercise, and seeing the night moon over the trees. Thanks! We hope to be back. Judy & John

Thailand shopping trip and R & R.

Our 3 night stay was great...very cozy during a wind and rain storm. The electric fireplace is a nice touch. It was very clean and we did not want for anything.

Owner's Response: Thanks again for your stay. You got a pretty wet and windy weather storm. Glad you enjoyed your stay. I've tried to make my place cozy so when the weather does not cooperate, you can still relax and enjoy yourself. Thanks again, it was a pleasure having you stay at my rental.

Delightful Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this Birch Bay cottage for 10 days in early January. I was happy to find it to be a most charming and comfortable place to be, considering this was my very first time using HomeAway. I was alone, and found the space to be ample, well stocked and furnished; I could easily see myself staying for an extended period of time. The bed was very comfortable, as well. I’m a hard mattress kinda guy, and was a bit concerned that the mattress might be too “squishy,” but it was not the case; I had many nights of good sleep! The house is kept very clean, and the paint color and scheme is both relaxing and refreshing. The interior is well laid out with an open concept. WiFi reception was good, TV comes equipped with Comcast’s Xfinity service, and there is even a small library of Blu-ray discs to watch on the player!

Although located on the corner of streets with a four-way stop, the windows are double paned and provide good insultation from any street noise. Walking to Birch Bay is all of about 10 minutes heading down the road in front, and I took an hour long walk each day.

Only thing I could possibly gripe about are the (pickup) trucks accelerating from the four way stop, as the drivers tend to gun their engines when they start their driving. Having stayed over a week, there is also one car with a very noisy and throaty manual transmission that passes through at least twice daily as well. After a day or two, you get used to it. Neither of these things disturbed my sleep or otherwise enjoyment of the cottage. I hope to stay again!

Kid free vacation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 4 days/3 nights and we LOVED it! The cabin is beautifully decorated and it instantly felt like home. Everything that we needed was provided and the weather even let up enough that we were able to test out the hammock in the back yard which was very relaxing and a very welcome addition to the rental.

The only thing I would say were downfalls is the kitchen is so stocked that it was difficult to find places to store our groceries which was easily rectified by rearranging the cupboards to accommodate some food storage space! As well the sectional in the living room looks absolutely stunning but unfortunately is not the most comfortable to relax on, it was great for sitting and enjoying our morning coffee but we found it difficult to relax on for long periods of time (we had a Lord of the Rings marathon planned for one day).

I would very happily return to this rental and would recommend it to anyone i know who was wanting to visit Birch Bay.

Nice clean, well kept place.

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was very clean and had a good layout. It was a 5 min bike ride to the ocean and Birch Bay park.

The only downside is that the intersection was surprisingly busy, and there seem to be a lot of loud Harley Davidsons and loud pickup trucks in the area. That said, it does quiet down at night.

Randy was very accommodating and replied very promply to any questions.

We really enjoyed our stay!

Owner's Response: Dave, Glad you had a good time. The intersection does tend to get busy in the summer being the State Park is fairly close by and Beachwood resort is just down the street. The city added a 4 way stop earlier this year which slowed cars down (which is good). But trucks/bikes sometimes hit the gas as they get take off from the stop sign which can make loud noises. Thanks again, Randy -owner
