Property type cabin

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom (Sleeps 2)

Log cabin studio vacation cabin rental with free wi-fi adjacent to the Gila National Forest, near Silver City, along our private Bear Creek Canyon riparian area is perfect for your next long weekend or full-on vacation holiday to get away from it all. The Double E Ranch Trail is adjacent to and offers unlimited access to 25 square miles of public lands. Endless hiking or horseback riding opportunities (bring your own horses).

The Pinon log vacation cabin rental is our version of a Western studio-type apartment. At 430 square feet, this little cabin is big on easy comfort. Perhaps our personal favorite, the full kitchen features custom-designed Italian stone counter tops, a 4-burner stove top, microwave, two apartment-sized refrigerators, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, toaster oven, crock pot/slow cooker, blender, toaster, dishes, flatware, cooking pots, utensils and a dinning bar with stools where you can enjoy breakfast or lunch.

The hotel quality queen bed beckons you to sleep in just a little longer than usual, all snuggled-up in the luxurious Egyptian cotton linens. When you do finally get up, the radiant, in-floor heating will keep your toes nice and warm on chilly mornings and, if you are here during the warmer months, you can count on the AC to keep you cool!

The living area in this quaint little gem features a comfortable sectional fold-open sofa bed with plenty of throw pillows. There is a chest of drawers and vintage cedar armoire. This cabin also boasts a full bath, with shower and tub, and for the evenings when the star-studded sky isn’t quite enough entertainment, there is also a TV/DVD library.

If your idea of relaxation is being exhausted from exploring all nature has to offer, you’ll want to stay at the Piñon Log Cabin.

The Piñon Log Cabin really is at the end of the road. From the covered deck, you can enjoy views of pastures filled with grazing horses, spy roadrunners, jackrabbits, hawks, deer wild turkey and javelinas, and take in some of the most stunning sunsets and star-filled night skies you could ever imagine. If you sleep better without the glow of city lights and prefer the night sounds of nature to the hum of humanity, then you are going to love the Piñon Log Cabin.

As with the other New Mexico Cabin Rentals, The Piñon Log Cabin provides you the opportunity to experience a taste of life on a southwestern New Mexico ranch, explore a diverse ecological region, and encounter the recent and ancient past up close. Enjoy the easy pace of a hot summer day on the ranch as you explore the compound and acquaint yourself with the horses. Look for any one of the hundreds of breeds of birds who call the Gila Desert home as you summit Turtle Rock or explore the boxes and canyons of the Double E Ranch. Trace the path of the Mimbres Indians who lived along Bear Creek and the Gila River 1100 years ago. Uncover their history through pottery pieces, ancient tools, pictographs and remnants of stone dwellings which can still be readily found. Introduce yourself to the more recent legendary characters who roamed the hills, mountains and towns in this area, including Billy the Kid, Geronimo, and Ben Lily. Fill your days and evenings with whatever pleases you because out here, that’s just about the only person you’ll have to answer to.

Car: necessary

A cozy 1 bedroom log cabin with covered deck and nearly 430 sf. Nestled among the cottonwood and sycamore trees along Bear Creek, you'll find a little bit of New Mexico magic. Easy access to the legendary Gila National Forest, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding. Climate is comfortable in every season. Winters are especially nice for visitors coming from northern states. It's not unusual for January - March to have daytime temps between 55 - 68 degrees F.

Feel free to walk about. Several of our cabins, barn and most of the corrals are original and have been in constant use for over 130 years. We continue to work hard at staying true to the historic 'feel' of ranch as it was in New Mexico back in the late 1890's. We are excited to announce that we are currently upgrading the 'old ranch house', built in the late 1890's or early 1900's. Original architecture with some very unique features, including high ceilings, fireplace in the bedroom, claw foot bathtub and screened wrap around porch with rockers and swing will take you back in time long past.

After your first creek crossing you'll find a privately protected riparian area that runs for several miles along Bear Creek. Wild life is abundant, you can spot hundreds of native and migratory birds, deer, brown bear, and Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep. At night you'll see the Milky Way spread across a clear, dark New Mexico sky.

Debbie or Alan are making "self check in" an option. When available, they will greet you, show you to your cabin and answer any immediate questions you might have. A booklet of pertinent information along with cabin keys will be inside. It is likely you will see Alan working one of his many horses at the ranch. His passion is training well bred quarter horses for such disciplines as cattle work, reined cow horse and cowboy mounted shooting. As an expert horseman, he has a wealth of information, tips and techniques he is always willing to share. We have plenty of additional room for parking trailers so bring your own horse! It's the very best way to experience this amazing part of the southwest.

Using your cabin as your 'home away from home', you can easily access some of the most beautiful sites in New Mexico and the southwest, including Silver City, Glenwood, Las Cruces, Carlsbad Caverns, Ruidoso and Santa Fe to name just a few easy day trip options . Interesting art galleries, museums, restaurants are just a short drive from the ranch. Day trips to either Arizona or Texas are convenient, with plenty to see and experience.

House Rules: Our pace is slower, making it easy to unplug from the stressful rush of urban life. No watches, clocks, time schedules or traffic gridlock. Activities happen at your own pace. Feel like a hike up "Turtle Mountain" to explore Apache Corral? We don't have signs reminding you to "stay on the trail". You make our own trails. Maybe indulge in a good book or a nap? It won't take long for you to reconnect with your own natural rhythm.

Pets are ok, but we do ask that you discuss it with Debbie prior to making a reservation. As a ranch, we have horses, cattle, ducks, a few chickens and our own dogs. As such, all our ranch animals understand appropriate behavior.

Sorry -- no smoking inside your cabin. Sitting outside on your own private deck to indulge is very pleasant. If you open a gate, please remember to close it, as well. Knock before your enter. We respect your privacy and hope you will reciprocate.

Grant County is still very rural. Ranching remains a very important part of the local economy. A few miles from your cabin, the Gila River flows all the way to Arizona and beyond. Canoe-ing, tubing, fishing or simply listening to the water move are all easy to do. Silver City has some interesting art galleries and restaurants and is just a 30 mile drive.

Silver City has a public transport van (Corre Caminos) making stops all throughout town for a small fee, as well as a small, short flight commuter air service (Boutique Air) to Albuquerque or Phoenix where you can make connections to anywhere. El Paso (3 hours away) has a very nice International airport with easy access, easy parking. Phoenix International Airport is 5 hours drive.
