Spacious 3 bedroom on Portland's East End, close to water, parks, AND downtown

Comfortable and sunny 3 bedroom apartment is at the top of Munjoy Hill, walking distance to the great lawn of the Eastern Promenade, East End Beach, Portland downtown, and the Old Port. An excellent central location to explore Portland’s and Maine's many attractions. You are within several day trips to the most scenic areas in the state.

You will have this apartment all to yourself:

• Walk (2 minutes) to Eastern Prom where you can sit on the lawn and watch the sailboats and enjoy food from local gourmet foodtrucks.

This is a vintage apartment - on the second floor with totally separate entrance - nicely restored, and updated. The entire building as well as the small yard area is nonsmoking, and of course guests should be as well.

NEiGHBORHOOD: Pleasant and popular residential neighborhood very close to the Eastern Prom and East End Beach, and also to two local markets, three fantastic Hill restaurants (Lolita’s, The Front Room, and The Blue Spoon), and the Hilltop Coffee House (all about a 4 minute walk). Walking distance (10-15 minutes) to the Old Port, the Ferry to the islands, and downtown Portland as well. If you want a ride, Uber is $4-5 to get to Old Port.

FOOD/GROCERIES: Walk to the small local markets or hop in your car and grab groceries at Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or Hannaford--all just 5 minutes away. Portland is a foodie town, and it's difficult to find a bad meal here.

ACTIVITIES NEARBY: From your rental, you can hear fog horns, see the moon rise over the bay, or find a great meal at the local places - about a block away. From the East End, Portland Trails provides a lovely walking trail along the water into downtown Portland. Ferry (or water taxi) over to one of the many islands in Casco Bay to spend the day paddling or walking around, or take the 'mail boat' which stops at a handful of islands and makes a fun day trip. Outlet shopping is 20 minutes away in Freeport – easy on to highway north from the Prom.

BEACHES: East End Beach (5 minutes walk) is located at the waterfront at Eastern Promenade Park. Other local beaches are an easy 15 minute drive to South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, or Scarborough.

REGIONAL ATTRACTIONS: By car, everything in the region is close - In five minutes you can be in the Old Port with its world class restaurants, 10 minutes to Portland Head Light, or easily get on the highway north to the to the Freeport attractions and shops like LL Bean. And if you're flying home at the end of your visit you can be at the airport and through security in about 35 minutes.

RATES: Rates for summer 2018 (June through Sept) are $1725- $2,100/week, minimum of 3 or 4 nights (when less than a week is available), or as arranged with owner. Weekly rentals can start on any day, as long as a week is available.

Munjoy Hill overlooks Portland’s most scenic waterfront, - you can lounge on the large lawn overlooking the water all day, and find food from the various food trucks that station themselves along the Promenade.

The Hill is directly connected to Portland's extensive walking/running/biking trail system, including a beautiful 5-mile oceanside loop. From here you can walk or bike to the beach, numerous parks, and almost everywhere in Portland! The nearby Old Port is known for its cobblestone streets, small boutiques in beautifully refinished brick buildings, the docks where fishing boats still come back home after a day of fishing, and more restaurants per capita than any other city. Portland is considered a foodie's paradise.

The Downtown Arts District is home to galleries, theatre, the symphony, the Maine College of Art, and the renowned Portland Museum of Art. Each month, the First Friday Art Walk draws hundreds of culture-loving Portlanders. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, Portland hosts one of the top-rated Farmers' markets in the country.

Downeast Magazine's recent article 'Cool on the Hill' characterizes this area as the hippest area in Portland. The apartment is steps from the Eastern Promenade park – overlooking Portland’s best section of waterfront, a beautiful lookout onto Casco Bay - and an easy 4 minute walk to several restaurants, Rosemont Market, and Hilltop Coffee. The Old Port and its attractions - including what seems like millions of incredible restaurants, shops, and the ferry to the islands, is at the bottom of the hill – about a 15 minute walk from the house. About Erna, Owner/Manager

I have lived in this neighborhood for a long time - about 40 years. It has changed greatly - and several times. When I moved here, Munjoy Hill housed working class families, - Now it appears to be the most popular place to locate in Portland - no doubt due to the incredible waterfront we have up here, easy access to points north by car, and downtown Portland by foot (or car).

Why Erna, Owner/Manager chose East End

This full floor apartment with separate entrance and parking is located in wonderful quiet neighborhood very close to the Eastern Prom waterfront. Quite simply, it's the best location in the City because of its easy water access and, in the other direction, easy walk or Uber to town. I like to take my coffee out to my deck or to the Prom in the morning and read the paper, check out the food trucks that sometimes are out on the Prom, hang out on the large lawn overlooking Casco Bay with locals and visitors, and swim and kayak from East End Beach.

What makes this apartment unique

I have always loved the location of this house - just over the top of Munjoy Hill, headed for the water... Close to downtown, yet feels far away.

We welcome all visitors, GLBT, folks from other countries, and anyone who wants to experience living like a local in Portland. We love to share summer in Maine with visitors exploring a new place, or here for an event or family gathering.

  • Original clawfoot tub - with shower now installed. There is shampoo and soap here for guest use. Clawfoot tub/shower is a somewhat high step to get in, if you are unsteady on your feet, good to know.

Great place from which to explore the Portland area. Very homey - far more comfortable and cost-effective than a hotel for a family or group in town for a wedding, graduation, etc. This is a quiet building. Not suitable for loud groups/parties, out of consideration for neighbors. Massage available (and facials) right next door at a very small neighborhood spa - Munjoyous.

Comfortable Stay with everything you need!

I stayed at Erna's for a long weekend with 5 other friends. The three bedroom apartment fit all of us comfortably and was a short walking distance to coffee, food, the promenade and about a 15-minute walk to downtown. Erna has the place stocked with everything you could possibly need, from toiletries and charging cables to spices and even fresh groceries! Erna's place truly felt like you were staying at a good friend's house. I would definitely rent here again and recommend to friends!

Great place, great location, fun town!

Erna was extremely hospitable, and provided all sorts of useful tips about the area. Portland is a great town to walk around and find interesting shops, restaurants, and beautiful views. This place is walkable to the Eastern Promenade and several solid coffee shops, and is just a quick drive to Old Port. Plenty of space, clean, and cozy. I will definitely look to stay here again when I return to Portland!

Great Location! Perfect Amenities for a Group of Couples

Thanks Erna! Really liked staying in your apartment. The parking was really easy for 3 cars, the location to both downtown, breweries, and water was absolutely perfect. The handy iPad you left was great for streaming HD baseball games and the kitchen was perfect for the 6 of us to relax and chat the night away.

Perfect sleeping situation for 6 people, most 3 beds are really two plus a sofa/cot, but this fit our needs. Would recommend!

Heart of Portland

Great location in Portland. The ocean side park is only 2 short blocks away with a playground for the kids. It is an easy walk to shops and resturants. The apartment was spacious for 4 adults and 2 small children. Erna made us feel very welcome providing breakfast basics for our first morning. There were plenty of towels and paper products. She made herself available through text/phone but we found everything that we needed in the apartment. The location has easy acces to major highways to visit attractions. Parking in the driveway is a plus as there was very limited curb parking. The only area that might present a problem was getting in and out of the claw foot bathtub/shower. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well supplied. We would rent this apartment again if we are ever back in the Portland area. Thank you Erna for sharing your apartment with us.
