About this property

Waterfront Cottage On Candy Point: Family-Friendly and Dog-Friendly!

Want to get away from it all? This is the place for you. Drive down Candy Point Road and
you'll feel like you are back at summer camp in this peaceful cottage with beautiful original pine walls and tall ceilings. Its cozy porch faces directly onto Rogers Creek, with views of the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay.
We call this cottage "The Little House" because it is the smaller guest house on the property-- the "Big House" is nearby across the yard. Just down the hill is our sandy beach.
The kitchen and bathroom were updated in spring 2017.
A washer/dryer stack unit has just been installed.
The cottage has central air conditioning and heat plus ceiling fans in every room.
Lie in the hammock to watch both spectacular sunsets and sunrises. Great star gazing.
For your use find beach chairs, beach umbrella, noodles, inner tubes, coolers, fishing gear, sand toys, bikes, a fire-pit, adult kayak, one junior kayak, and 1 paddle board in the garage.
Sleeps 4 in two bedrooms, one with queen bed and one with twin beds. The bathroom has a shower, no bathtub, tile floor. Pets are welcome, but if they get wet and muddy, please dry them off and put towels on my cushions!
Kitchen has electric stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and refrigerator with freezer. Wireless internet service, no TV. Painted floors, hooked rugs, quilts, and lots of charm throughout.
CHECK IN IS AT 3 PM; CHECK OUT IS AT 11 AM
INQUIRE IF AN EARLY CHECK IN OR LATE CHECK OUT IS AVAILABLE, IF IT IS THE FEE IS $50 FOR EITHER

Very disappointed!
The house number was difficult to locate in the dark, very hard to find. No lights were on, and the outside entrance light did not work. The temperature inside the house was 63 degrees when we arrived. The heat pump only got the temperature up to 68 degrees during the two days we were there! The house was not very clean. Cobwebs everywhere. Instructions for the WIFI were unclear! There was no TV in the unit. Dead bugs were found on the floors and in the kitchen. There was no major lighting over the dining room table and even with all the lights on the house was quite dark! To get some of the lights to work one had to use extension cords. With the strong wind our first night one could feel the cold air coming right through the walls of the house! It certainly was not what we were expecting and not what was described in the description of the property!!

Quick two night getaway from NOVA and teaching. Cottage beautifully situated on Hull Creek and the Potomac River. Beautiful view from the porch. Spent the day looking listening to the water while reading on the porch. Tropical storm Ophelia couldn't even dampen our spirits, the porch allowed us to be safe but also soak up the natural be

We are native Virginians and live in Alexandria, VA.
The property includes 2 cottages, a garage, 1 acre, and a dock. It's our family's favorite place and we've been restoring and upgrading it for the last 35 years.
I love painting furniture and floors and anyone can see I have been very busy with my projects!

Why they chose this property

Definitely its proximity to the water. Candy Point is practically surrounded by water... you can hear the waves at night. Visitors feel like they are on a boat because the house is up on a hill and you see water everywhere you look!

What makes this property unique

In the spring you can watch ospreys ( just back from their winter journey to Argentina) building their nests. Bald eagles soar above the creek. We have bluebirds and hummingbirds too. It is a very quiet setting --at night you hear the waves and the frogs across the creek at Froggy Bottom. Plus the star gazing is amazing! also, there's fishing and crabbing from the dock.
