It is close to airport, incoming planes are audible, airport is supposed to be closed from 12-6. The home has triple pane windows and air conditioning. Please read the reviews regarding this.

The home is comfy, casual, classy and convenient. Its within walking distance to the epicenter of the hottest, most popular restaurants and bars in all of San Diego.

Or if you want to stay in and create your own elegant dining experience, there is fun china, hand blown margarita glasses and colorful cloth napkins along with any cooking utensil you could want. Turn on the automatic fireplace with a click, for warmth and ambience. Theres a propane bbq on the outdoor patio, with table and chairs and lovely fountain.

Or sit on the front porch railing and watch the sunset over the San Diego bay. Its a great spot whether you plan to stay home a lot or go out and enjoy the sights because it is minutes to all of that.

I am a native San Diegan. We purchased this property 9 years ago because we love the location. My husband and I plan to live there in 10 years. The neighborhood is now a Mecca for fine dining with lots of hip new restaurants, funky old restaurants, breweries and bars . I like to garden, go on bike rides, and have friends over for nice dinners. I am an interior designer and had a lot of fun putting the interior together. It's comfortable, cheerful, and romantic .

Why Lucinda Scalco chose Bankers Hill

To be honest, if I was coming to San Diego for beaches only, I'd rent a place right on the beach. However if you're here for some beach, but the zoo, downtown, Little Italy, Old Town, Balboa Park, Coronado, then this location is unsurpassed. Who wants to spend all your time in a car? Literally you can walk 4-8 blocks and get to great restaurants, the park, downtown and the harbor. If you want to stay in, the place is very comfy, nice bay breezes, good light. Most of my guests say the airplanes add an element of excitement, noticeable the first day and after that forgotten. Not to mention when you fly in, its less than a 10 minute ride to the house.

What makes this house unique

I'd say the fact that it is a single family dwelling in mid city makes it more unique. Then add the Mexican flavor decor which puts you in the mood for San Diego's ethnic roots. The airplanes add to the excitement of travel. It is almost 100 years old but has the comfort of your favorite old shoes. Sometimes parking is more challenging but the garage guarantees you a spot each and every time.And you can have a successful car free visit to San Diego in this location as well. Uber rides to downtown are $5 and walking is 15 minutes.The city bus has a stop right across the street and the trolley and train are also walking distance away.

Best VRBO we've had

My family and I have been using VRBOs to travel for a few years now, and we agreed during our 1 week stay here that this was the best experience we've ever had with one. I was in town for a professional conference at the convention center(south end of downtown) and this was a 30 minute walk from that, and much cheaper than the hotel options in the area. The cottage is not large, but it makes VERY good use of its space, and my family of three had plenty of room for the week. It is a very pretty place to have as a home base for a vacation. It is very well stocked(even with things we would not have expected to have had supplied to us, which made our trip even easier) and in a great location- in addition to the easy downtown access, it is also very near an I-5 on-ramp so we were able to go up and down that corridor with ease, including La Jolla and its attractions.

Great location, great price, beautiful well-stocked home with a thoughtful and well-prepared host... really no complaints. The garage is small but with care we were able to park our Subaru Outback(with mirrors folded in), barely open the car door enough for me to get out, and then shut the garage door. It is under the approaching flight path for the airport, but this was not much of an issue for us- the noise was not intrusive when indoors and mostly if a plane flew over while we were outdoors, my 5 year old thought it was really entertaining.

Great place. If we come back to San Diego again, this is the first place we will look to stay.

Absolutely wonderful stay

The home was amazing. Great location. Super clean. Lovely decoration. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in San Diego. Airplane noise is the only downside but it wasn’t that bad. I would absolutely stay there again.

Perfect Hacienda

This house is so pretty. Well appointed on the inside. Has everything you need. Close to all the San Diego sites. Private getaway. Much nicer than staying at a hotel.

Adorable house centrally located

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. It was centrally located that we could (and did) walk to Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, Little Italy, and several coffee shops. The house had everything we needed. The patio in the back is adorable and despite the planes flying right over as they landed at the airport we enjoyed sitting out there. We would look for this property again if we were staying in San Diego again. Lucinda was very accessible and responsive. She has a Welcome book with all kinds of information and recommendations for the area. It was very helpful. Thank you Lucinda!

This house is centrally located to restaurants, museums, airport, park, marina, great restaurants, downtown. It is about 10-15 minutes to Coronado or mission beach. It is three blocks away from interstate 5. San Diego is a hard city to not have a car in but this location would offer a lot even without a car. No walk is very long except for the beach. The Gaslamp and ballpark are about a mile and a half away. The Horton plaza mall is about a mile away with movie theaters there. A walk through Balboa Park puts the zoo and the museums about a mile and a half away.The bay and embarcadero are less than a mile away. There is a city bike sharing program in which you can rent bikes with a credit card and drop them off at many convenient locations. The bike kiosk is just 3 blocks from the house at the corner of hawthorn and 4 th ave.
