Completely private Guest House on Mountain Top, Oceanfront Estate. Tastefully furnished 1000 sq.ft. 1 huge bedroom, King size bed, and day bed (sleeps two on twins),located off kitchen area, mirrored wardrobe doors, Mexican tiled bath with large shower, granite kitchen with dining bar. Comfy living room, Satellite TV, WIFI, and large veranda with views to the Bay of Ensenada, the Pacific Ocean and mountains. There is a beautiful white sandy beach only 10 minutes below this 660 ft elevation,accessible with 4-wheel drive or hiking. The bay beach is only a few minutes away where you can walk along the white sandy beach and there's even hot springs right on the beach where you dig your own jacuzzi.

This property is located in an exclusive enclave of private estate residences. The views are unbelievable. The area is safe, secure, and friendly. There are many hiking trails and we are close to the popular La Bufadora (blowhole) where there are Mexican curio shops, restaurants, dining and dancing.

We are located 45 minutes from downtown Ensenada and about 1-l/2 hours away from the Guadalupe Valley where there are several top notch wineries. The month of August is the month of the grape harvesting and there are many wine tasting events, which are booked in June and July, so if you want more info on those events contact the property owner for more info. Driving from San Diego is easy on a new, modern, toll road and takes approximately 2-l/2 hours.

This was a cute little house in an unbelievably scenic area of northern Baja. It's a bit of a drive to Ensenada (the major town nearby), but this is a great place to stay if you love vistas. Lots of local mountain and beach hiking, and there are great tourist areas of curios and tamales and such within 10 minutes. The casita is in an area that's under development, so be prepared for a bit of nearby house construction. All in all, a great vacation.

Owner's Response: The construction is almost complete as of August 07. So you won't hear anymore happy, laughing and singing Mexican workers during the day.

Great Quiet Location with Incredible Views

We stayed for a week with our pomeranian while considering relocating to the Ensenada area. You'll be staying small gated private development about 800 ft high atop the ridge on the Punta Banda peninsula, about 2km of good but unpaved road from the main highway to La Bufadora. It is absolutely quiet at night, you can hear the sea lions way down by the beach, and the views are fantastic. Look north to the lights of Ensenada or south to miles of uninhabited coastline. Great pet friendly location, everyone is out walking their dogs around sunrise.

Janika is an excellent host, available if you need her but otherwise respects your privacy.

The casita itself is very clean, comfortable, artistically decorated, and well laid out, with a full kitchen, bedroom, bath, and living room. It also has a nice balcony with a charcoal grill if you want to barbeque. Water is trucked in so use it sparingly and do bring bottled water to drink. You can stop for groceries at the Calimax about 25 minutes from the house on the way in. If you don't feel like cooking there are several nice restaurants within about 10-15 minutes drive and if you want to experience Mexican tourist shopping, its about 10 minutes to La Bufadora where you can "run the gauntlet" of souvenir shops on the way to see the blowhole. There is a nice long sandy beach about 15 minutes away where you can take a walk or horseback ride.

What you won't have here is easy access to nighttime entertainment. If you want that, stay in downtown Ensenada which is about 45 minutes away. The only complaint we have is that like most Baja properties there is no heating system. This would be fine most of the time but we wound up staying the coldest week of the year. It gets windy on the ridge up there. Like most Americans used to central heating it felt pretty cold, I guess if you live in Baja you get used to it. Janika provides a portable propane heater but a second one would be really helpful on those cold nights.

Overall, highly recommended.

Could be awesome but needs a thorough cleaning.

This property could be awesome and once was we're sure. It's got character, is very spacious and unique location with great views. Is also generally quiet and barking dogs are not a perpetual nuisance like some places here.

However we fail to see how recent guests say it's clean as we were quite frankly appalled. It blatantly has not had a good clean for a LONG time.

There are cobwebs and spiders everywhere, and a good layer of dust on many items. The blades on the ceiling fan in the kitchen haven't been touched in many years and are half black with grime.

The kitchen is gross. Everything you touch is sticky with grease and dirt especially anywhere near the stove. Even the utensils and appliances and knobs/handles. All kitchen appliances are old and filthy. The wobbly cooker is propped up one leg with cardboard and had a baking tray full of crumbs on the top shelf. The drawers and cupboards are a mess inside with cobwebs, dirt and random kitchen junk strewn haphazardly. We noticed a mousetrap in one next to a kettle and then things got really interesting. We discovered the mouse droppings in the cupboards, on the stove top and on windowsills, even on the wall in the bathroom. Needless to say we did not cook except for boiling a couple eggs.

The shower drain had sand all around it so we were thinking it hadn't been cleaned since the previous guests at least and the shower walls had not been touched for a good number of guests. The toilet was so unbelievable we won't even detail.

The one bedroom blind was broken and even the note asking you not to adjust it was falling down. The other bedroom window had no curtain so it was hard to sleep at night. There was mold growing on the skirt around the bed base and the whole place smelt musty.

The couches in the lounge smelt of mold and were stained with grime on the armrests. They need a real deep clean. Rugs had not been vacuumed in a while.

Some electrical sockets were exposed or hanging loose. I know this is Mexico but not good for kids or pets?

A few of these items could be overlooked and we wouldn't have highlighted them but in totality it's inexcusable.

There is an old folder in the lounge with some flyers and a typed advice note from years ago that was obviously way out of date and not much use. Janika did not introduce herself until we left, ask if things were ok or proffer any advice about where to go or what to do, and we only exchanged a few words through her screen door as we were leaving.

Owner's Response: I'm so sorry this guest was so unhappy with the housekeeping. The casita is thoroughly cleaned every time guests leave and all the furniture, towels, linens and carpets are cleaned. Seems to me this guest spent her entire time inspecting the property and not really enjoying her vacation.

Nice place but location and facility overstated. A casita is not an apartment over a garage!

Place was clean and access was easy. I originally intended for 2 people to stay and my granddaughter (16) and 25 year old disabled veteran son wanted to go. The first night I had a friend and his wife stop by. Owner was upset that I had more people than originally planned. She wanted to charge extra per day per person.

We did have a nice relaxing visit although it is quite a bit off the main roads and distant from any beach. Also when she would come and go the sound of the garage door opener running was annoying. The owners grown daughter drove an older VW bug with a poor excuse for a muffler. The VW started up loud and the garage door opener provided comic entertainment during dinner!

Would I stay again? Probably not. But I did not find the owner around when I wanted to check out to settle on extra persons. She quickly claimed the $100 deposit and made it sound like I was a creep! We used 6 towels, used some sheets and she was upset about that! Oh well some owners are different and this one was just that. If the owners who lives next door, wanted to talk to me, she could have easily talked to us during the 3 days we were there. Not my first rental with VBRO and they most certainly did their part to a tee!

My parting words are really watch what you are renting and pay close attention to the details of the property.

One persons luxury casita may actually be an apartment over a garage!

Owner's Response: My property is definitely not overstated as you can read past guests' responses and they are all positive. If this guest had read the description of the property he would have known the casita is over the garage. I've never had complaints in the past about the garage door opening, and I definitely wasn't upset about the use of 6 towels and sheets as I had no contact with them after they checked in. I was upset about 6 people when the reservation was made for two. His comment about the beaches is incorrect. You an drive to beautiful beaches within 10 mins. and if you want you can hike down to the beach below the property. I agree that everyone should pay close attention to the property details and I've done my best to present this property as it really is. Some people can never be pleased.

Mountain Top Oasis

Wanting to make sure we had a nice place to stay on our first leg through the Baja. We were so glad to have seen the beautiful country along the way and arrive well before sunset for our 2 night stay. The Villa is absolutely beautiful. The view was just amazing. Loved watching the fishing boats checking their tuna nets. Found it interesting that there were tuna farms there. It is a great place to land for peace and quiet and reflect on the next leg of your journey.
