Cozy Cottage Near Sauble Beach, 3 Br 2 Bath, Gorgeous Swimming & Fabulous Sunset

July & August are fully booked! June and September still available at special discounted rates!

Perfect for families, romantic get aways, and creative or healing retreats! Situated on the west side of the Bruce Peninsula (a world biosphere reserve) between the forest & the shore 10 minutes north of Sauble Beach, Wind Rose Cottage is our beloved family cottage and is available to rent three seasons of the year, with winter rentals commencing in December 2018! Suitable for 6 people when at least 2 are children. Otherwise we'd need to discuss it.

***IMPORTANT*** you may be viewing prices in US$. The "detailed price" button also gives $USD info. To see CAN$ scroll all the way down to the rates chart below and change the currency at top right of the chart. CAN$ will come up automatically when you submit a booking request.

Wind Rose has been totally renovated inside with beautiful bright new interiors. Summer rentals are minimum 7 days except when longer rentals have created a shorter opening. Shorter summer rentals, when available, are $250/night. Fall, winter and spring rentals are minimum 3 nights.

Wind Rose is a three bedroom 750ft2 water view shoreline cottage with a cozy, classic cottage feel located across the road from a fen and sand beach in Oliphant on Lake Huron.

Fully renovated, new features include 2nd bathroom with compact washing machine, patio doors from the master bedroom to a sheltered sitting area, all new mattresses and canadian made feather duvets (alternatives available for those with allergies), new appliances including a dishwasher, more kitchen counter space, luxury fittings in the main bathroom, and other details for your comfort and enjoyment.

The living room faces the lake with large windows. A bistro table and chairs are a favoured spot to enjoy the view, as are the lounge chairs and outdoor bench in the front. Off the living room is the front bedroom ( The Green Room ) with a double bed. Behind the living room is the fully equipped kitchen with tongue and groove pine cathedral ceiling, fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle, blender & coffee/espresso maker.

All dishes, utensils, cookware & cleaning supplies are provided. The kitchen has an eat-in dining area with table and chairs.

On the south side of the kitchen are two rooms: the bunk bed room, and the beautiful 4 piece bathroom with jetted tub and thermostatic rain shower head.

Behind the kitchen is a passageway with coat hooks leading to the 2nd bath and master bedroom, now with a queen sized bed, cathedral ceiling, ceiling fan & electric fireplace. The whole back area can be private to the master bedroom if desired.

The cottage has a deck leading off of the kitchen, part of the deck has a view of the lake, the rest is private and/or covered. A gas bbq is provided.

The backyard is grassy, and has a double hammock, fire pit & picnic table. Just off the master bedroom, the new sitting area features an outdoor bistro table and chairs, a bench and a contained fire area for cool evenings.

Across the road from the cottage is a trail that leads down to the sand beach on Lake Huron. The water is approximately 300 metres through open fen and sand from the front of the cottage.

The beach is shallow entry, great for kids and warms up quickly, after a time drops off to a perfect swimming depth. The last 2 years (2026 & 2017) the water was higher than usual all summer, covering the sand beach and leaving instead a flat rock area for sunning and water access. The swimming was still gorgeous, clean, clear and sandy bottomed, and several sandier beach areas are within a short distance. It looks like the water levels will be high again this year.

The cottage is located on a lightly trafficked narrow paved road which is great for walking, biking or roller blading.

There are many kilometres of trails for hiking through the woods behind the cottage; waterproof boots can be useful. Easier, drier trails may be accessed by way of a former through-road found less than 1/2 kilometre North of the cottage. Trail maps are provided in the cottage along with local information. Walk or drive to a large nearby sand dune with picnic tables.

There is a pay phone in Oliphant at the Campground, this is also the closest wee store. Cell phone reception, somewhat sadly, is now quite consistently good at the cottage.

Cozy, clean cottage with spectacular views

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week at windrose in late August 2017 with 4 Adults and 2 Kids (6&3) and had a lovely time. The cottage was super clean and provided everything we needed. The espresso machine was a brilliant extra that got us out of bed every morning. Sauble beach is really close by and we had excellent days at the beach in the crystal clear waters of Lake Huron. Sunset campfires were an extra treat and the wonderful Bruce peninsula was close by too.

Overall we were really happy with the cottage. Anna Jean was a super host and answered all our questions almost instantly! Thank you again! We just have two minor suggestions if you are traveling with kids:1 the wooden terrace at the back of the house has some cracks and holes so make sure the kids always wear shoes. It's splinter territory. 2 the bunk bed has no protection against rolling out so if your kids are "active sleepers" you will have to secure the bed. Especially the upper one.

Owner's Response: It's always lovely to hear that guests enjoyed their stay! The espresso machine is a favourite of mine too! Regarding the comments at the end, the deck did weather rather quickly this year and we will be addressing that in the off season. The bottom bunk does not have any side rails, but the top bunk does at the head and foot with a small gap for access in the centre. These safety sides extend about 8 inches above the surface of the mattress. I will be updating the photo so that guests can easily see if they might need anything extra for their kids. We really strive to be kid friendly!

We had exactly the vacation we were hoping for. The weather cooperated for the most part and we had a lovely, relaxing stay. The cottage was clean and well equipped. Loved the fire pit! We will definitely recommend.

Love This Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We spent Thanksgiving long weekend at this lovely cottage and had a wonderful time. The cottage had everything we needed and more: a full kitchen, beautiful clean and new bathrooms, comfortable beds, and a great location. We very much enjoyed being in a quiet area and toured around on foot and bicycle. The water was so clear and beautiful despite lots of waves and lots of shallow parts for wading. The fire pit was great fun for toasting hot dogs and marshmallows and there was tons of outdoor living space for eating, BBQ-ing and hanging out. The shed is great and big enough for bikes and keeping firewood dry. The TV/DVD came in handy on the chillier night, we watched a movie from the comfy sofa. We liked the short drive to town and were pleased to learn the local grocery store was even open on Thanksgiving for a last minute stop. It was easy to feel right at home at Wind Rose Cottage, we highly recommend staying here!

Fantastic cottage !

  • 4 of 5

The vacation with my daughter and three grandchildren was very special and comfortable largely through staying at this cottage. The weather was unexpectingly cold and wet but this cottage made the experience delightful. The rooms are modern, new and welcoming. Every kitchen item was already there and we definitely brought up too much. The bathrooms are modern and fresh. The layout of the cottage was perfect as it is very spacious and the backyard was large and inviting. The owners thought of every need one would require for a vacation. I would definitely go back again!

Great base to explore the Bruce!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our first visit to Oliphant. The cottage was nicely appointed and the kitchen was very well equipped. Lots of places to eat outside as well and the hammock was a nice treat. The backyard is private with cedar hedges on both sides partially obscuring the view of the next door cottages. Great place to play frisbee with the dog too. The cottage was across the street from the lake and as the water level was low there was fen rather than sandy beach to get to the water. It was very shallow which made for warmer water temperatures. The road in front was not very busy but we would see the same folks walking their dogs and made friends with many of them. There is a fenced in dog park close by but we never went there as the fen was a great place for an early morning frisbee toss. I also noticed a bunch of dogs swimming at the marina a couple of km down the road. The master bedroom is a nice size but the rest of the cottage is "cozy". The view out the front window upon the sparkling waters was so nice-one of the best features. The owner was very helpful with my million questions and I felt well equipped when I arrived. Two bathrooms was also a treat!

The cottage has neighbours on either side nicely screened by mature cedars and fencing. The backyard is quite private; out front, it's a friendly area and people will wave and say hello when they are walking by. You can hunker down and enjoy a whole week right there, or you can take advantage of many great options to explore the wider area.

Being shore, it's mostly flat making biking and hiking smooth. Here are some of the bike/hikes you can choose from: ( of course you can drive to any of these spots too!)

Under 1 km to Lonely Island Beach: Also great for kids with an even longer shallow entry, just for a different view. There is a port-a-pottie on the spot. Go N on Bay Street from the cottage and then turn left/west onto the Causeway at Lonely Island Drive. Carry on for a circle tour around the island if you'd like, with a stop at the public dock. Use caution, there is Poison Ivy on the Island, but not to my knowledge at the beach area accessed off the causeway.

2km to the Campground Store: You will pass the Oliphant dock with public washrooms and several coves that are popular with kiteboarders. The campground store has an ice cream freezer. Go north on Bay street from the cottage to the stop sigh, turn right and the campground store is at the top of the hill on your right.

3km to Fen Boardwalk: The boardwalk through the fen has interpretive information about the unique flora and fauna of the area. Across from the north end of the boardwalk is access to a conservation area with swings that is often home to nesting egrets. Go North on Bay St 3 km and you will see the boardwalk on your right.

4.5km to Sand Dune: A large sand dune with picnic tables is a fun place to play! Go South on Bay street from the cottage 2km to South Oliphant Road. Turn left/east. At the stop sign, turn North. this is a busier road but there is a bike lane. You will come to the dune on your right.

Under 5km to Sauble Falls Provincial Park: You can see the falls from the road or pay the day use fee to go in and play in them. There are washrooms, playground, picnic tables and kayak or paddle boat rentals there too. Follow directions to the dune above but turn south/right at the main road instead. The falls will be on your right.

7km to the mouth of the Sauble River/North End of Sauble Beach: Follow directions to Sauble Falls above, turn right/west off the main road toward the entrance to the provincial park. Carry on following this road past a breakfast restaurant with view of the river ( at the Kit Wat motel) and a little grocery store. This road takes you to the lovely spot where the mouth of the Sauble River and the north end of Sauble Beach meet.

8km to 6th St Sauble Beach: follow the shore road 1 km further south from the river to find restrooms, a playground, and a lunch bar with scooped ice cream. This end of Sauble Beach is family friendly and much less crowded!
