About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Lakefront Log Cabin with Character and tastefully decorated

If you are looking for a true 'Adirondack Camp' experience, look no further!

First, about the Cabin. Sitting on the shore of Forest Lake (a private association lake with no motor boats allowed), the cabin was built in the 1940's as a rental for one of the many Dude Ranches that were active around the Lake George/Lake Luzerne area. A Charming cabin that has been completely restored to provide all the modern amenities that one would expect today. There are three bedrooms upstairs with a full bath, downstairs you will find a spacious living room with original stone fireplace (gas logs installed) a dining room that seats 6, a large kitchen boasting a gas range/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and a full selection of cookware, dinnerware and utensils. There is a full bath (with shower) downstairs that also hosts a full size washer/dryer for your convenience.

Also, lakeside, is a quite place you can curl up with a good book. Walk out the backdoor onto a large covered porch overlooking the lake. Sit quietly and you will probably see the bald eagles that live on the lake, lots of ducks and geese, and occasionally the family of otters that make their home across the lake. Attached to the covered porch is an open deck to grab a few rays or fire up the grill. Step off the porch and it is steps to the lake. There is a dock for sunning and a nice sloped area for swimming. We have a canoe and a row boat at the property for your use! You can spend your entire visit relaxing at the cabin but if you want to explore the area, there is plenty to do. There are several river rafting outfitters just down the road as well as The Painted Pony Rodeo. Horseback outfitters, snowmobile outfitters and hiking trails are all nearby. The Longhorn Pub is just down the road for a hamburger or a drink, a locals place that is good and fun or try the Upriver Cafe in Lake Luzerne with a fantastic view of the Hudson. If you wish to explore a bit further and need some additional shopping or dining, just a few miles brings you to the Lake George area where putt-putt, amusement parks, restaurants, outlet malls and shops will keep you busy. For real nostalgia, take in a double feature at the Drive in Movie! Lake George offers more boating and fishing opportunities. During the winter try the Tubby Tubes (summers are fun too!) near the cabin or drive to Gore Mountain for a day of skiing.

We are minutes to the Northway (I87) and it will quickly take you south to Saratoga Springs and Albany, north to the upper Adirondack region with Lake Placid and the Lakes (even Montreal is just a couple of hours away), and East to Vermont.

Rates: Please see current rates under the rates tab. Summer is a 7 day rental with turnover on Saturday. We have a 3 night minimum the rest of the year. Also, we limit our cabin to 6 guests. We cannot accept pets due to an allergy issue.

Their is a $500.00 security deposit that will be charged at booking that will be refunded to you promptly upon inspection after you leave. Upon your request to book, we like to visit by telephone with a prospective guest prior to booking so that we can all get to know each other a bit better and feel comfortable with our relationship.

We love our cabin and think you will too. We are very proactive owners and are always available to answer any questions or satisfy your needs. Just call or email if you have any questions.

About Fred Asmussen

We are Pam and Fred Asmussen, we live in Texas and purchased the home last year. Two of our children live in the Northeast and we purchased the house to be able to spend more time with them. We have fallen in love with upstate New York and the Adirondack region is our little slice of heaven. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Fred Asmussen purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Fred Asmussen chose Lake Luzerne

When you close your eyes and try to imagine your idea of a lakefront camp in the Adirondack's this property is most likely what you will see. Our cabin was originally built in the 1940's as part of the Northwoods Dude Ranch, an 800 acre site with 2 lakes. A lot a history in the area.A true hand cut log home, nestled among the pines overlooking a beautiful lake. Original pine floors, exposed logs, and a handlaid stone fireplace gives the house its charm. With a well done addition to the house and lots of work, the house was remodeled to provide a modern kitchen and nice bathrooms. We have decorated the house to keep the charm of a log home but included many of our personal pieces, furniture and rugs to give the house a bit of elegance as well.

What makes this cabin unique

What makes this house special?

Standing on the porch watching the wildlife?

Testing the water with your toes in early summer to see if you are brave enough for a plunge?

Pushing the canoe into the lake to enjoy a different view of the beauty of the area, the quite and the solitude?

Family and friends gathering in the kitchen, all talking, laughing and cooking?

Backing up to the fireplace on a frosty morning with a cup of coffee?

Curling up in a chair on the deck with a good book?

You decide...

Guestbook comments from the owner

The description of 14 Vista didn't disappoint in the least. As a matter of fact, we don't think any description or pictures can do it justice. Each and every detail (of so many) was a new discovery. We would joke about how we would find something new and unique in the cabin that we didn't notice the day before. What's more, the home is kept immaculate and fresh. Our dinner guests were also amazed at the furnishings and fixtures. Literally antiques. You are clearly trusting people. We thank you for trusting this little slice of heaven to us for our stay. The ski conditions weren't the best, but we knew coming "home" to the cabin would make up for it. Hopefully in the future we will have the opportunity to visit again.

Left my heart there!

  • 5 of 5

I have had a life long dream to stay in a snow covered log cabin in the woods on a lake. Two weeks ago, my dream came true. Everything about the cabin was exactly how I would have pictured it to be. The tranquility, scenery and atmosphere made our long weekend perfect. When we arrived, there was a light snow fall which just added to the beauty of the cabin and the lake. Every morning we woke up to snow falling. We even went out on the deck with our coffee to enjoy the scenery. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet get away from it all place to go...this is it. I absolutely fell in love with this cabin. I left my heart there!! I have already started to plan the next stay there.

Amazing cabin Rental, the only thing you'll regret is having to leave!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at this lovely cabin. We walked in and felt like we were coming home. Everything you'll need for your stay is there and it's all high quality, from kitchen gadgets to your linens. 3 days just wasn't enough, do more if you can, you won't regret it! I can't say enough about Pam and Fred, they are the best owners we've ever dealt with and I use VRBO a lot. Enjoy!

Beautiful cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We came for a weekend away and some time to relax. The cabin was gorgeous, and the online pictures do not do it justice. The home had so much character! Fred was extremely welcoming and provided excellent recommendations for activities/restaurants to try. Lake Luzerne is ideal with the benefits of a quiet location and privacy; however, a short drive from Lake George, Bolton Landing, and Glen’s Falls. We did not want to leave, and cannot wait to return!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind words. Pam and I feel the same about the location, 10 minutes we are at Lake George and all the action, 10 minutes back and we are in quite solitude at our cabin on the lake! Hope to have the opportunity to be your host you again.

Charming historic cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 just arrived home from a week at this charming cabin. We had a wonderful week filled with memories of fishing, biking, horseback riding and everything in between. We picked this property based on the charm in the pictures but in person it is somehow so much better. Pam and Fred did a spectacular job decorating, we couldn't wait to get back to the cabin every night to unwind. The cabin has everything you need inside and the beach front is a hop skip and a jump away. We had countless hours of fun on their dock and at the beach just down the road. We will definitely be back next year. Thanks so much Pam and Fred!

This cabin is truly fantastic! A great old log cabin, beautifully restored with the greatest attention to detail. From the moment we walked in we were in awe of the quality and attention to detail that Pam and Fred put into the furniture and decoration. The kitchen had everything anyone could need to prepare simple or gourmet meals. Every room felt cozy and inviting and the beds and linens were top notch. It's only when you walk out onto the lakeside porch do you understand how wonderful this location truly is! The views of the lake, the great seating and dining area made this porch our prime hangout. I can't say enough about this outstanding cabin and we are already making plans to return!
