About Jack Ginnett and Debbie Luke

We have always wanted to live on Smith Mountain Lake and take advantage of the water and the beauty . We looked for a long time and when we saw this property, even in an abused condition, we knew that it had the bones to work. At this point it is a very enjoyable home and spot on the lake. It took a lot of work to get it to this stage. We plan to keep improving it, though . We hope that others can also enjoy it as much as we do.

Wonderful home with all the amenities to make our stay enjoyable! The house is very clean and is beautifully decorated. Great location, just minutes from town. The owners were very accessible and patient when we had questions. We were very pleased with our stay and plan to return.

Perfect lake house

  • 5 of 5

After vacationing for the past 6 years at SML, this was by far our best experience. The owners are very responsive and give you a lot of information about the house prior to arrival. The house is clean, well maintained, and has everything you could need for a great vacation. The true gem of this house is the outdoor space. The proximity to the water is rare to find in SML. In just a few steps, you are on your dock! The dock is spacious and has plenty of seating - multiple adirondack chairs, a picnic table and bar stools. There is a large covered space so you were always able to find shade if needed. During the week, the cove is very quite and at most times we felt like we had our own private cove. The kayaks were fun to use and the owners are kind enough to leave their cabana open, again, another rarity for a rental unit. Between the picnic table on the dock and the lovely screened in porch, we did not eat a single meal indoors during our stay. We would love to come back and stay in this home again!

A beautiful...relaxing...vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We just had a wonderful week at Smith Mountain Lake, it was mainly due to the beautiful house we stayed at. It was clean, quite, and had everything you could ask for. The kids loved jumping off the dock and the kayaks. The adults loved that everything was at our fingertips. We rented a boat and jet ski, which were also close proximity to the house. We had great weather all week but we really need work on our fishing...all sun fish! Thank you Jack and Debbie for the wonderful memories! We'll definitely be back to SML.

Nice House

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at your house was very nice, pictures and descriptions were very accurate. We were there over Thanksgiving and cooked a huge meal, the kitchen was very well equipped so we found everything we needed. Master bedroom was great, loved the sleep number bed, two bedrooms downstairs were nice, the bedroom on the main level would be nice to have a queen or even a king in that bedroom, the twin beds were so uncomfortable that my son slept on the couch after the first night. The weather was warmer then usual for this time of year so we were able to go down to the dock, great view and very peaceful (my dad even said something about maybe coming back in the summer time). The location of the house has its good and bad points, good is it is close to grocery store, wineries and restuarants, bad is the long gravel road drive to the house but not so bad to take a star away!! ;). Thanks again for renting out your house, we had a great time!!

Owner's Response: Hi and thank you for taking the time to post a review! We are happy that your Thanksgiving meal and stay was so enjoyable. We also like the sleep number bed in the Master bedroom and the space that the room affords You have hit a conundrum though on the first floor bedroom. Its difficult to do a one size fits all on the bedrooms. In a lot of cases, families have small children and the beds in that room are just right for that mix. In your case (and others) those beds don't work because they are meant for smaller people. Regardless, we are thinking of going to a larger bed, which would mean one less total bed, but maybe its for the best? You have hit another point, the gravel road. My daughters like to walk to the winery from the house. Me, its the price I pay to enjoy the dock and the water and I have kinda gotten used to the road. We did enjoy your review and are glad that you had a "great time!!".

Wonderful Fall Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great weekend in this beautiful home! It was very quiet and secluded, yet close to restaurants and shops. We enjoyed lunch in the screened porch, drinks on the dock, and several games of pool. Lots of windows and sky lights let us enjoy the outdoors while we sat inside enjoying our morning coffee (love the coffee pot!) or watching college football (flat-screen tvs plus Direct TV!!!).

We took walks near the house (that steep driveway is great exercise!) and also explored SML State Park. We enjoyed eating at several restaurants (breakfast at Old Oak Cafe, lunch/dinner at Jake's Place and Vinny's) checking out Bridgewater Plaza and ice cream at the Homestead Creamery (definitely worth the drive).

The owners were very easy to work with. The fresh flowers were a nice welcoming touch. We definitely recommend this property and hope to stay there again!

Owner's Response: Wonderful Fall Getaway! ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Thank you for you're wonderful comments! We can't take credit for the flowers though, a very nice couple got them and we left them because we thought they looked nice. Glad that you enjoyed them. We are so glad that you weathered the storm and were still able to enjoy your stay. We also like to be able to go out and about and still have the privacy to enjoy quiet moments, especially in the fall. Thank you again and glad you had a good time.
