Enjoy your meals in the open concept main living area of the house with a panoramic view of the Bras D'or Lakes. If you feel the need to leave nature's paradise you are just a fifteen minute drive from Baddeck's amenities, shops, bakeries, cafes, and Farmers' Market. If golf is on your itinerary, Bell Bay Golf Club is equally as close. Big Harbour Hideaway is fully equipped with indoor and outdoor dining tables, three comfortable bedrooms, two private baths, full kitchen, and laundry. The living spaces are bright, well furnished, and leave no view obstructed.
Our family are Cape Bretoners. My brother and I grew up in a nearby town and were fortunate to be able to spend our summers with our parents on this area of the Bras D'or Lakes. We live away from Cape Breton with our own families now but come back to our Cape Breton family home to relive memories, make new ones, and enjoy the slice of heaven which is Big Harbour.
David Chiasson purchased this house in 1990
Our parents retired to this home twenty-five years ago. Sadly, they are no longer with us to enjoy the beauty and the surroundings that this area of Cape Breton offers. This home will remain in our family for generations and we are happy to share it with tourists and fellow Cape Bretoners who appreciate nature and the beauty it has blessed Cape Breton with.
If you live in a city or just a busy town, the absolute peace and quiet that this location offers may be its biggest asset to you. The sounds of the wind, waves and wildlife is all that you will hear and the shear beauty of the landscape and the moonlit sky at night is what you will remember the most.
breathtaking! magnificent! Picturesque! Being from the area, and impartial aside, my family still felt removed from our home 45 minutes but yet still appreciated what makes Cape Breton so unique. Beautiful views and more than accommodating amenities inside the summer home. Would love to get back there.
We had a wonderful stay at the cottage for 10 days. There was everything in the cottage that we needed.
The freshness of the air in the evenings, bedroom windows wide open, best nights sleep ever. The extra bonus was we had 10 days of sunshine.
The location of the cottage was also a plus for us. Baddeck only 15 minutes away, close to the Cabot Trail and not far from Sydney for family to visit us.
It was so peaceful! As someone said it was so quiet we could of heard a bird poop.
Highly recommend this little peace of paradise!
Fantastic view, cozy clean comfortable cottage (with full amenities), quiet off the beaten track location yet easily accessible to a local centre with a full scope of tourist related businesses and attractions plus centrally located on Cape Breton itself. What more could a guest or traveler need? The simple answer is nothing. You have it all with this Big Harbour retreat! Oh yes, I must also commend the very accommodating and hospitable host who ensured that we were comfortable and cared for throughout. On the day you leave, you’ll be thinking about your next trip to this great spot!
A perfect spot for our Cape Breton stay. The cottage is secluded and so peaceful yet close to Baddeck and the Highlands and other attractions. We enjoyed several walks to nearby waterfalls--thanks for providing guests with literature on the area. It's a great location for doing the Cabot Trail.
The views from the living room, screened porch, deck, and dock are so great. It was difficult to choose where to have morning coffee! The cottage (house) has everything we needed. It is a sweet place...3 bedrooms with really comfortable beds and a view that made it difficult to leave. The kitchen is well appointed, the barbecue was a nice addition, the laundry was a welcome bonus as was having two bathrooms.
Thank you for this opportunity to really experience the area. Having such a great location mean we could really get to know it. We highly recommend your place.
I gotntonstay here for 8 months and this place was beautiful.
Even though I was there for what done could consider a long enough periods of time, I couldn't Count how many times I had to pull out my phone and take pictures of the beautiful scenery from the deck, or my bedroom balcony, or from down on the people Beach at the water.
It's beautiful to make you feel like you've found a special spot you're lucky to be in, homey feeling if you're there for any extended period of time, and little perks like balconies off both upstairs bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with showers for bigger families, full kitchen and washers for clothes.
It has everything you need and then some and I can't ruin some of it, but after being there 8 months, I still felt like I couldn't be living there because it was so beautiful.
Our family had a wonderful time here. We went to Baddeck so that some of the members of our group could bike the Cabot Trail and we certainly had the best place to start and stop from. The weather was not always cooperative so having a comfortable living area made entertaining the children easy. The view was spectacular from any window of the house - especially on foggy mornings. Having the kayak to use meant we could explore the cliffs and shoreline at our own pace. The fire pit and dock were a huge hit with the family and so nicely set up with comfortable chairs and some toys for the children. The house was set up like a home and Dave was always accessible by email or phone to answer questions. We highly recommend this home and would have given it 5 stars if the weather had been a little nicer.
Located in Big Harbour on 2 acres of land with a sweeping view of the Bras' D'or Lakes. Watch the eagles and great blue herons soar by day from the screened in deck or while soaking in the waves and sun on the dock. Let the loons sing you to sleep at night. This quaint country home comes with a large private beach, dock, double kayak and fishing equipment.
