The Porch House - Relax and Unwind!

Bedrooms 4
Space 167 m²
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths

If you are looking for a quiet place to get away, this is it. This family friendly house has a rustic feel with a wonderful screened porch which has two tables, chairs, hammock and porch swing. There is usually a breeze blowing through the porch and the sounds of the birds and wind chimes are very relaxing. It's the place where everyone spends the evenings relaxing and listening to nature. There is another deck with a table and chairs.

The house is spacious enough to accommodate family gatherings or a group of friends getting together. It is close enough to visit New Orleans, and a great place to come home and relax.

The Porch House is a raised, cedar, Acadian style home with a 42 ft. porch and tin roof. It has ceramic tile in the living, dining and kitchen areas. There are four bedrooms and three baths (one pillow top king bed and a queen size bed downstairs and a queen and full upstairs in one bedroom and a queen in the other upstairs bedroom ). There is a loft/nook which has two twin beds, with a desk separating the two beds that can be used in the winter. The bedrooms have a taupe colored carpet. The kitchen has ash cabinets with an island perfect for entertaining. It is uniquely and comfortably decorated. The Porch House is not new and far from sterile, but it truly sparkles with memories and great energy of those that have visited before.

The Porch House is located near Bayou Liberty on a dead-end street in a secure, private area, yet, it is only two miles away from Olde Town Slidell. Some activities to plan are: The Antique Street Fair in October and April; Arts Evening held in November; Mardi Gras parades (family oriented and begin in Slidell before the New Orleans parades); The Slidell Heritage Festival held in July with fireworks over Bayou Bonfouca, and the Crawfish Cook-Off is in April. Besides the quaint shops in Olde Towne, there are many good restaurants, including Palmettos on the Bayou, La Provence, Assuntas and more casual dining at The Bicycle Shop and Southside, to name a few. A short drive away, on the west side of the parish is Covington, Mandeville and Madisonville. There are many interesting shops and festivals in this area, with the Wooden Boat Festival being highly recommended.

Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian is less than an hour away...where the day can be spent enjoying the sun and sand, or enjoying the arts along the Bay.

If you want to bring your boat, or rent a boat or kayak, and explore Bayou Bonfouca, Bayou Liberty or Lake Pontchartrain, there is a boat launch a few miles away.

There is also a public boat launch at Heritage Park in the heart of Slidell a few miles away, and a private boat slip available in a waterfront subdivision. There are many different types of fish to catch in the Lake as well as a fun place for kneeboarding, etc.

There are several nearby golf courses - Pinewood, Royal and Oak Harbor. .

Slidell is about 25 miles from Downtown New Orleans, home of the French Quarter and casinos. It is about 30 miles from Bay St. Louis/Waveland area and an hour away from Biloxi/Gulfport area.

The Gulf Coast has many interesting places to visit and has made great progress in rebuilding since Katrina. There are many casinos in Biloxi/Gulfport, but the closest one is near Bay St. Louis.

This home is close enough to New Orleans to be a tourist in the daytime, and come home to relax in a quiet community. It is also centrally located to experience the many little different towns in the surrounding areas. For more information on current events, the Slidell Chamber of Commerce has a website that can give more details.

Fantastic house. We had 7 adults and 2 babies and had a wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

First thing we noticed when walking in with groceries was how well stocked the kitchen was and the spacious living room. Bedrooms were large with lots of closet space. Laundry room was even stocked with plenty of detergent, trash bags, etc. We were impressed. The front porch is amazing and certainly justified the name “The Porch House”. Our host Joni was very responsive to any questions we had in advance of our stay. All in all, the best experience we’ve had in home renting.

The perfect house

This house had everything and the porch swing and hammock were so relaxing. Plenty of room for family since we were there for a wedding and my kids and grandkids had plenty of room.

Property was exactly what we needed to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

We were extremely satisfied with this home for our needs, We had 10 people from 4 families coming together and we had plenty of room. 4 bedrooms and 3 baths, as well as a hammock and couch gave plenty of room for all. The large screen in porch with views of many birds was wonderful. The home is toward the end of a dead end road, so there was peace and quiet, we never saw another person the 3 days we were there. The wind chimes sounded like beautiful music. The kitchen and baths were filled with plenty of supplies, which made our grocery shopping so much easier. The yard was large and plenty of room for parking as we had 3 vehicles of our own and then 2 more that visited us from relatives living in town. There was a large selection of books, and games, as well as a TV if wanted, I would highly recommend this home for a nice place to stay

Porch House visit

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay - though being there in the snow we weren't able to make use of the nice big porch! The house is well sealed and we were toasty warm. The only down side is the heater is quite loud. We'd stay there again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and letting me know about the noisy heater. My A. C. man lives down the street and he'll be checking it out today. I appreciate you letting me know. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I bet the snow was beautiful. Thank you again, Joni

Memphis, New Orleans

Epitomizes life on the bayou :)

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were on an emergency trip for family member at Tulane hospital in the city so no time to book with hotels with parking, reserve boarding for dogs (one with cancer who needed to remain by my side) so we found The Porch House! Elegantly casual, laid back living on the bayou with a beautiful view from the side decking (coffee spot!). Dogs happy with the smells and resident rabbits, board games, books, BBQ grill, made it a perfect spot to relax from the city, hotel elevators, parking fees, kennel boarding fees, etc. What a deal but most important...what a true kicked back experience on the bayou!!! :D Will go again :)

Slidell is centrally located between New Orleans and Mississippi. The Pearl River, which is 20 minutes away, has several Swamp Tours to choose from and if you're a cyclist, the Tammany Trace is very close. Bayou Liberty boat launch is a street away.
