A special place for a friends or family gathering. Music is such a part of this house that it seems to sing all by itself, and the garden is magical.
Down a potholed farm track in the middle of nowhere (well, Stroud is ten minutes down the hill), surrounded by stunning woodland on the top of the escarpment, is a 18th-century weavers' cottage that's grown — and grown! — over the years. Now it is a big, beautiful and open-but-cosy family home. Tiered gardens, ponds, shrubberies, squirrels, dragonflies and ten acres of woodland surround it, and you can help yourselves to anything that is growing. In the sitting room are antiques, rugs and easy sofas, books, pictures and objets d'art. Stairs creek, doorways lop, and the kitchen is Shaker in style, with a handsome farmhouse table and a huge range for toasting your toes; walk The Cotswolds, then recover on a floral sofa. For cooks: every drawer is full of utensils and there's an abundance of pots and pans. Bedrooms are in two wings; beds, bedding and views are to die for. There are four double beds, two single beds and one sofa bed which folds out into a double. The sofa bed is in the same room as one of the double beds, but it is the largest bedroom in the house and is consequently still very spacious. The owner, who lives in the cottage just above, is most happy for children to stay but note, there are stairs to tumble down and steps to fall up! One for musicians, artists, family, friends…
