About this property

El Zurdo, Restored Watermill in Beautiful Location with Mountain Views

The watermill, El Zurdo, a restored 17th century watermill is situated in an outstanding valley in the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park Between Grazalema, a picturesque and lively white village (approx 6km) and the dramatic historic town of Ronda (approx 15km) . Lefty, meaning left handed, was the only 1 of the 13 mills in the valley Which turned anti-clockwise. It sleeps up to 6 people and is in a secluded rural position at an altitude of 600m private and separate from the nearest neighbor El Pastor
The mill has-been sensitively restored and Retains ITS MOST of the original features: such as the mill race, grinding wheels and crane gantry. It is simply furnished in a rustic fashion and was featured in the Spanish magazine 'Home Field'. Lefty is partially built into the cliffs of a small gorge and has natural plunge pool and waterfall Which is perfect for swimming in on hot summer days
The accommodation is simple and typical of farmhouses and mills in the area; not much has changed from 50 years ago When They Were worked and lived in. We Have installed what we Consider to be the basic necessities (electricity, running water, flushing loos, showers, refrigerators, cookers) but tried not to let Have them spoil the very special Spanish character.
To reach the mill, you first follow a short bumpy track into the parking area. You then cross the river over a small bridge and walk down the path to the house.
You enter the sitting / dining room and two steps up take you into the mill room you will find the Where grinding wheels and crane gantry. The Latter was used to replace worn stones, then a Which Were used for flooring.
The kitchen is a step down, Which is Equipped with refrigerator, cooker, breakfast table, worktops and double sink
There are two bedrooms upstairs, each container containing a double and a single bed. The shower room and toilet are outside across the patio. From there a path to the river Takes You (Which powered the mill), Where have created a natural waterfall plunge pool.
This mountainous area is perfect for walking, cycling and bird watching. Scops Owls, Golden Oriels, Griffon Vultures, Black Kites and Bee Eaters Have All been spotted close to the mill. Guided walks are Popular with visitors.

How to get around
We have four airports nearby: Malaga, Seville, Gibraltar and Jerez de la Frontera
Grazalema is only 30kms from Ronda, a monumental and romantic town, whose visit is a must and in whose surroundings are the small wineries of the most sought-after wines of the Sierra. There is one daily bus to Malaga that pass through Ronda.
Seville, Cadiz and Malaga, are approximately 2h. by car.
The centuries-old wineries of Jerez de la Frontera and its famous Andalusian Horses are just an hour away.

Other highlights
We require a minimum stay of three nights.
There are recycling garbage containers at various points in the town and at the exit to the Zurdo road to Grazalema.

Hormigas

El Zurdo in Grazalema
Wonderful experience, an oasis of peace, quiet and rest. Very nice natural stone house near a creek, in a beautiful wild rugged natural area (Griffon vultures were flying over our heads). The kitchen was sufficiently furnished, very clean bathroom, everything worked well. Also very reasonably priced (we were with 2, but 4 could easily stay here). Location near village of Grazalema (5 km) in the heart of the Grazalema sierra is ideal as a basis for nature- and mountain-walks. The only serious minus were the beds: they were too small (too short!) and very poor matrasses plus spring system (potential back-ache beds). This is the only reason we give 4 out of 5 *.

Loads of character
Magically situated in a valley near Grazalema. A bit dark and cold this time of year - we had two days of rain, but we had a good time.

Rustic idyll nestled in the wilds
This made the perfect base for a winter walking holiday in Andalucia. The mill is definitely fairly basic, but is charming and very cosy with the wood burning stove lit in evening. It’s tucked away from a quiet road, perched above a pretty stream and we’ll set up for a self-catering holiday. The surrounding area is beautiful - would thoroughly recommend for an out of season trip!

Sensationelle Location
die Lage und Beschaffenheit der alten und sehr authentischen Mühle ist einzigartig und uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen! Der Wasserfall und der Naturpool ist unbeschreiblich schön.
