About Ron & Alley Sandy

After 5 years of owning and operating one of the most popular cabin rentals in Ellijay we purchased Buck Valley Lodge early in 2015. We have spent most of our free time enjoying the mountains with our 4 children. In July of 2011 we decided to share our cabin home, Bearadise Retreat with others and listed it with a local property management company. We quickly saw the downfalls in using such a service, both for the owners and the guests. We saw so many things we could do to improve our guests experience. We now enjoy handling the entire process ourselves. Our favorite part is talking to and meeting our guests from all over the country and overseas.

Ron & Alley Sandy purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Ron & Alley Sandy chose Ellijay

We wanted to offer our guests amenities that you just can't get outside of Coosawattee River Resort. From indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, stocked fishing pond, river tubing, game rooms, miniature golf and fitness center there's always something fun to do. Buck Valley Lodge gives our guests four bedrooms and three baths for sleeping up to eleven along with a beautiful view, comfortable furniture and a pool table game room makes it a perfect getaway.

What makes this cabin unique

Buck Valley Lodge is a perfect combination of knotty pine wood and traditional building materials, the feeling is very warm and inviting and give an unmistakably cabin feel. A roaring fire in the wood burning fireplace on a chilly evening gives all the ambiance and romance anyone could ask for. Buck Valley Lodge has a open concept floor plan so nobody feels left out whether in the kitchen or living areas. We are small dog friendly and are happy to talk to you about bringing your best friend to the mountains.

Beautiful cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a week at Buck Valley Lodge for Christmas vacation and enjoyed it immensely. This beautifully decorated cabin is comfortable, tidy, and very clean. The balconies were favorites of everyone, but I especially liked the covered, screened porch. The kitchen is one of the most well-appointed kitchens I have seen in a vacation rental. It had everything we needed to prepare meals for our group of seven adults. It rained most of the week, so we were not able to explore the area very much, but we found lots to do inside. We played pool, board/card games, watched the deer, and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The owners were very helpful and promptly returned our phone calls. They have made every effort to ensure a pleasant vacation for their guests. They even went to the trouble of putting up a Christmas tree for our celebration! I would recommend this cabin to anyone visiting the Ellijay/Blue Ridge area.

Perfect getaway for a family!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to take my grandmother, who was visiting from Utah, on a little trip while she was here. We had a great stay at the Buck Valley Lodge! There were plenty of beds to sleep us all and they were comfortable and clean. We enjoyed playing pool and relaxing. The views from the cabin were beautiful and we enjoyed seeing several deer in the mornings and evenings. Ron and Alley were awesome hosts! When we wanted to purchase day passes to the resort amenities they were quick to respond. My only negative is that I wish there were more blankets. Thank you!

House is wonderful. Management is poor.

  • 4 of 5

The stay was wonderful, lovely house with a wonderful view. Security is a bit rude and treated us as if we we’re intruding. I did not like the fact the management would not stock the house with extra blankets or towels, You are given the bare minimum towels and nothing extra and then instructed to bring your own. For the amount of money paid for the rental, everything should be included, and full stocked. Over all though, this is a great place to visit as long as you bring what you need!

Owner's Response: We are so sorry that you experienced a issue with security in the resort. We have spoken to the GM and have been assured it will be addressed. As for the towels and blankets, we ALWAYS leave plenty of towels and blankets for our guests use. The problem is that this guest was not forthcoming on the actual number of guests staying and our cleaners had prepared the cabin for the number they told us were staying. We do not ask our guests to bring any linens, blankets or towels. We happily fully stock the cabin for the amount of guests that are contracted to stay. This review is very disappointing as we allowed them a late check-out and were very accommodating to every request.

Loved every minute of it!

  • 5 of 5

The property and cabin did not disappoint. It was clean, spacious and very nicely decorated. We loved the location being out in the wilderness so close the the river while only being 10 minutes from town. Couldn't believe how many deer we saw right in the yard! The kids loved the resort's indoor pool and game room when it rained. The owners were very nice and responsive, we really couldn't have asked for more. We will be coming back!!

This is the one!

  • 5 of 5

We've been searching for the perfect cabin for our yearly trip to the mountains for quite awhile. We've finally found it! Buck Valley Lodge has everything we could ever ask for in a cabin. It is large, beautifully decorated, clean and fully stocked. The owners were great to deal with and provided us with all the information we needed to have a great time. We all loved the hot tub, firepit and pool table. The cabin is less than a 10 minute drive to town but feels like we are out in the middle of the wilderness. We have already reserved our next trip!!!

Our trip to Bucks Valley Lodge, Ellijay GA

  • 5 of 5

Great place, great location, great owners! Our 9 member family stayed at this cabin and had a wonderful week. We were all very comfortable, made use of the pool room, hot tub, fire pit, propane grill and cooked many great meals in the well stocked kitchen. We brought our pups, and there is a dog park in the resort, ,but we found that as much as we love them, it was a really an extra daily hike to walk them up and down the road (remember you ARE in the mountains). The Owners stayed in touch leading up to our trip, answering my many questions with grace and humor. The location is fantastic: very private, but literally 15 minutes to major shopping: Walmart, grocery stores, CVS, multiple restaurants, etc. The owners have created a literal guidebook for the area along with maps and descriptions of anything you can think of from antiques stores, restaurants, to wineries and hiking trails complete with maps and level of difficulty. We were able to visit 4 fantastic waterfalls that : Helton Creek Falls, Long Branch Falls, the Falls at Volens State Park (a picture postcard park worth visiting), and of course, the awe-inspiring Amicalola Falls (which is can't miss site..just don't go there first, all other falls will pale in comparison.) We also went "gem mining & panning for gold" in Dahlonega, which was great fun for all ages. There are multiple cabins to choose from, having the owners guide you make all the difference. I believe we'll be back!.

Approximately fifteen minutes from Whitepath Golf Course, and three different rivers that offer tubing and kayaking, horseback riding, fly-fishing, whitewater rafting, hiking, scenic trains rides, antiquing, hassle free shopping, mini golf, children's amusement park, deer park, Amicalola Falls, apple orchards and much, much more. We are located just outside of Ellijay with easy access to Blue Ridge. Great local restaurants and shopping are within a 15 minute drive.

This list will not do justice to all the activities and attractions in this area. The local chambers of commerce have a wealth of the same, as well as knowledgeable and friendly personnel who love to share information about their special corner of paradise. Of course, you can also research the towns and general area on the Internet. Hiking galore, including the Appalachian and the Benton MacKaye.

Fishing, boating, Jet Skiing, tubing, zip-lining, whitewater rafting--Lake Blue Ridge, Toccoa River, Ocoee River Horseback riding, golf, mountain biking, gem and gold panning.

Antiquing--Blue Ridge has been called the antique capital of GA, and Ellijay, with its charming roundabout (instead of the typical courthouse square), has its share, too. Swan Drive-In Theater is nearby, one of the few remaining today, operating since 1955.

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, on which you can take a narrated ride from Blue Ridge to the twin cities of McKaysville GA and Copperhill TN and stand with one foot in GA and one in TN--marked with a big blue line painted through the IGA Grocery parking lot.

Apple businesses where you can view the process from orchard to grocery bag, tour the facilities, shop for apple-themed goods and goodies, and try one of the area's delights: the fried pie! Ellijay is known as the apple capital of GA.

Wonderful local restaurants--just a few: the Toccoa Riverside, where on weekend nights a duet of two elderly, overall-clad bluegrass pickers entertain; the Pink Pig in Cherry Log, President Jimmy Carter's favorite BBQ joint; Colonel Poole's BBQ in Ellijay, where the hillside is decorated with a giant outline of a pig compiled of hundreds of plywood pigs naming past patrons (some celebrities), and our favorite Italian place, Charlies in Ellijay.

Festivals throughout the year: for example, Apple Festival, Sorghum Festival, Prater's Mill Festival, GA Mountain Fair (demonstrations of old-timey mountain practices), Rhododendron Festival, Bluegrass Festival, Dahlonega's Gold Rush Days.

Numerous state parks, national parks, and national forests, each with its own amenities, activities, and gorgeous scenery.

Marked scenic drives/highways, almost all with scenic pull-overs and overlooks, especially important during our gorgeous autumn 'leaf-gawking' season.

Countless waterfalls, one of which (Amicalola) is the tallest cascading falls east of the Mississippi; in the cabin are a pamphlets with descriptions and directions to 11 falls in the area--all of which we've hiked to--only a couple are strenuous treks.

Just a few miles from the cabin is the longest suspension bridge east of the Mississippi, a very short and easy hike brings you to where it crosses the Toccoa River.

A little further away is Tallulah Falls and Gorge, the deepest gorge east of the Mississippi(notice a pattern here?)--we've hiked to the bottom of it, and it is strenuous, but magnificent.

Many other sights within a short drive, such as Brasstown Bald, the highest point in GA, Dahlonega's Gold Museum, the Alpine town of Helen. Also available in-cabin are such services as massage and gourmet chef.
