Granville is a small seaside resort.
The Haute-Ville built at the peak of the rock is the old fortified town (the Northern Monaco). Surrounded by battlements with an unobstructed sea view, is accessible through the drawbridge dating back from 1630.
Travelling along its narrow alleyways with suggestive names, its staircases, you will discover the fishers and rich ship-owners’ typical houses as well as the church of Notre Dame dating back from the 15th century... and if you want to know more about the history, the heritage and the maritime past of this city, the museum of Granville will be perfect. Many activities as well as guided tours across the different areas of the city are available all year-round.
At the peak of the rock you will find the lighthouse, the aquarium, and the museum of shells. A pedestrian trail allows going around the rock and enjoying the coastline from North to South.
Granville is also a fishing harbour, a commercial port and a marina. The wharfs and the jetties, all accessible, give you the opportunity to experience the life of the harbour according to the tides. You will find many activities about the maritime environment: water leisures (sailing school), shellfish picking or sea fishing, take a boat to Chausey or Anglo Norman islands, old rigging boat trips...
Restaurants with seafood speciality or fish speciality are around the harbour.
In addition to the small shops, restaurants, bars, it is in the city centre that you will find the market on Saturday, the multimedia library, the cinema, the casino, and the thalasso centre, Christian Dior’s home city/museum, the auditoriums and the beaches of Plat-Gousset and Herel...
It is located 45 km away from Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy.
