About Dana Brenner-Kelley

My name is Dana and I am your host, along with my husband Eric and our two kids still at home. We are an active, progressive, artsy family with warm hearts and a love of community. I am from Detroit originally and my husband is from Southern California. I work part-time as an organizational development and leadership consultant and my husband is a production manager for a small company that fabricates laser rods. We are welcoming of all kinds of people. We live upstairs and are available to help you get to know our city and make the most of your trip. We provide whatever level of privacy you would like. Sometimes we never see our guests. Other times they join us for brunch or an evening chat around the fire pit. It just depends on everyone's needs and desires. I love to sing jazz, my husband is a congo drummer, the kids are each their own unique bundles of joy and often love to meet other children who stay here. We have a mini goldendoodle named Shayna (hypoallergenic) who never goes into the unit but loves to say hello if she sees you outside, as well as 8 chickens.

Why Dana Brenner-Kelley chose North Portland

Staying with us, you are close to the airport, downtown, and all the parts of Portland that people most enjoy. We are a little over 1 hour from the coast, where we have another property "The Grey Roost" for which you can get a 10 percent discount. We are in one of the more "Portland" of Portland neighborhoods with lots of destinations to walk to and amenities close by. You have the best of both worlds because you have your own private space but you have us close on hand to help serve almost as a "concierge" to your stay if you like that. While we live in an urban area, we also have backyard chickens, beautiful gardens, lots of art around, a hot tub, and are close to hikes in nature, beaches, river attractions and more. We are the first owners of this home, which is only 5 years old. While it is built for modern families, it is designed to look old and classic and is modeled after "Portland Four Squares" from the Craftsman Era.

What makes this house unique

Backyard chickens, karaoke machine, Walking distance to lots, salt water filtration hot tub, super kid friendly, we live on the property to serve you better and help you explore our city. Bouncy house for rent available. Beautiful small gardens and yard.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

My 6yo and I had a lovely stay at the guesthouse, it was clean, spacious and comfortable. The art and color scheme lends a nice touch, and on our late evening arrival we found that Dana had turned the lights on for us so arrival was very smooth and welcoming, it felt like a home away from home.

On one reviewer's comment regarding the kitchen: my child and I have 5 food intolerances between the two of us, we use VRBO in large part because we cook from scratch to accommodate the dietary challenges, and we did just fine with the kitchen. A bonus: there is a market up the street called New Seasons which is similar in offerings to Whole Foods, as well as a Fred Meyer, and plenty of eateries around the area.

We felt there was plenty of privacy and felt safe. Additionally, Dana was responsive and she and her husband were friendly and wonderful to work with. My child is already asking when we can go back, we hope to return next year!

Description truly fits...artsy and comfortable! Loved it! Recommend it!

  • 5 of 5

6 of us came in from 4 different states; each loved this place! So comfortable & relaxing, and very artsy. The hot tub after the wedding reception was much appreciated by the 3 that "indulged" in it, quietly of course. And we really enjoyed chatting with Dana when we needed her. The fees seemed a bit high! but the place was outstanding....

Attractive apartment

  • 4 of 5

The unit is very artfully decorated, with lots of artwork on the walls, and a variety of wall colors. It's quite spacious, with two bedrooms and a large living room. I deducted one star, because the entry stairway had apparently not been swept in months.

Owner's Response: I think this review may be misleading so I just want to clarify. The guest is not referring to the inside of the home when referencing the “entry stairway”. The inside of our home is kept immaculately clean. He is referring to the outer entrance which is a descending concrete stairway exposed to the elements. We do sweep it regularly but the week this guest was with us we had a powerful rain storm and fall debris gathered in the outside stairwell before this guest arrived and we did not realize it.

This place was perfect for us.

  • 5 of 5

This is a comfortable basement apartment, aesthetically decorated. The two beds in one bedroom were both comfortable; the double bed in another bedroom was a little soft. But, we really had no complaints. I would definitely stay here again, happily.

We are sandwiched in between the Columbia and Willamette rivers as within walking distance to the Willamette. There are all kinds of places near here within walking distance: restaurants, bars, coffee shops, grocery stores, vintage shops, 2 movie theaters, parks, even a local brewery and a chocolate factory! We also host an annual jazz festival and a great parade! We are close to museums, lots of cultural activities.
