Overview

About the property

1 bedroom Cabin, 1 hide-a-bed for 2 1 Bathroom sleeps 4, beautiful ocean view.

Brand new timber framed cabin, one bedroom with fireplace, wall T.V. in bedroom double doors looking out onto the ocean. Beautiful cozy living room with hide-a-bed. All linens and towels provided. The kitchen has

stainless steel appliances plus a washer/dryer. large screen T.V. in living room that swivels. There are table and chairs and lawn furniture if you would like to sunbath. Also a beach umbrella to keep the sun out if you prefer. We have a gas fire pit, that way if there is a fire ban you can still have a fire! Great BBQ for those yummy steaks or a great catch of Salmon. . The cabin is based on double occupancy and it is an extra $15 per person over 2 people for the cabin. Maximum of 4.

One of my favorite things to do when the tide is out is walk the reef, you need a good pair of gum boots or runners, something you don;t mind getting wet, and don;t forget your camera. the sights are spectacular. There are sea lions bathing on the rocks, eagles walking around looking for crab, blue herons, gorgeous colored starfish that are attached to the rocks but please leave them for others to enjoy! Its like you are in another world, Sometimes the tide is really low and that is the time to go out but just be aware of your surroundings as you can get carried away and the tide can come in around you quite fast. The sunrises are spectacular and in the summer the sun comes up right in front of the cabin, there are some amazing colors. I find sometimes the sunrises are much more vibrant in the fall/winter but still very beautiful so a camera is a must .In they bay I have taken a video which is on u-tube of hundreds of dolphins swimming back and forth for a good 45 minutes, it was an amazing sight and one I will never forget. It even made the news! many times you will see sea lions and seals, the difference is sea lions are about 8 times bigger then the seals and they will lay on the rocks and sun themselves all day. Its amazing how they don't fall off the rocks considering their size. It really is a beautiful sight. If you look at the photos you will see them. The cabin was built by Dave, my husband in 2011, it was to be his man cave until I had a better idea! Everyone that has come has loved it and written wonderful reviews. He took a lot of pride and still does in the workmanship which is truly incredible. It is timber framed construction with beams that are 40 feet.everyone has been amazed by it. Inside Dave has many antiques from his grandfather that many people say they take the time to look them up as they are so fascinated .Lots of fishing books and all kinds of books on the areas and where to go.There are two tables on each side of the deck with 4 chairs each so lots of room for guests.. Smoking is only allowed outside and no candles allowed in the cabin except for battery operated ones which are there for your enjoyment. If you need anything at all we are here for you so don't be afraid to come and knock on our door. You have the whole drive-way, no other vehicles will will be parked there so you have a beautiful view! There are eagle trees right across the street in from the cabin so you will see an abundance of eagles as well as Blue Herons and sea lions that lay out on the rock when the tide goes out. The Eagles and Blue Herons are there all the time. Its amazing to watch the eagles look down and watch the water and swoop down and grab a salmon and eat it in the tree. So I have no doubt you will have more then enough to do and you will fall in love with our cabin and the area. If you would like a little more privacy we do have a brand new

Arctic Fox trailer with a Queen bed that sleeps two, a T.V. that swivels from bedroom to living room, Wi-Fi Cable two comfy lazy boy chairs, a shower and washroom, tea , coffee and plenty of towels and linens. The price if you rent the two is $325. We are on septic so only toilet paper in the toilets. So relax, enjoy and don't forget to write in our guest book!

About Dave and Colleen Jones

My Husband Dave and I Have lived in Campbell River for over 40 yrs. We originally came from the mainland but moved to Campbell River to open a Charter Fishing Company since my husband has fished all his life. So we made a go of it and it has been highly successful. It is called Fastwater Charters Ltd. so if you are also interested in catching the big one, our business is Family owned and operated for over 45 years and we would be more then happy to take you out to catch the big one. Our boats are covered and heated with a washroom on board. All you have to do is ask us and we would be more then happy to help you out!

Dave and Colleen Jones purchased this cabin in 1980

Why Dave and Colleen Jones chose Campbell River

Well Dave and I have been together since I was 18 and he was 27. Today he is 69 and I am a very young 60. Lol! We fell in love with the property and bought it in about 1980. Dave built the cabin in about 2010, it was to be his "man Cave!" So we let it sit and admired it for a few years and then decided to try renting it out. He was a little worried at first as a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into it, as he did do the building himself. It took him a few years but it was finally finished and he did a fabulous job! We love Vancouver Island, Campbell River and would never live anywhere else. Our view is spectacular of the ocean and the mountains and we just can't get enough of the wild life. Many times you will see the deer come right in the yard and try and eat my plants which they usually succeed in doing, or Mama raccoon and her babies are always hanging out you can usually spot them during the evening! One of my favorite things to do is watch the eagles as there is a nest right across the road and they are always flying around with the crows chasing after them. It is not unusual to see them sitting up in the tree eating there fresh catch of salmon or cod and many other treats. We have the best sunrises here so I am an early bird as I love to watch and take video's of them. They are so different daily especially on the water, its like a different painting every single day. You will see tons of Eagles with that distinct sound, sea lions, porpoises shagpokes and even whales going North to Alaska. You will usually always see the Blue Heron that is perched on the rock right at the water and he will sit there for hours until the eagles come and take over. We have also seen turkey vultures which I had never seen before. The would sit there with there wings out and I often wondered why they did that and found out the reason is because they are drying themselves which I found very interesting. I think that you will love the property as much as we so please come join us

What makes this cabin unique

You can't get enough of the beautiful ocean views, sunrises and all the wildlife! What a great place to live!! You have the golf course right up the road, walking distance and this is the Salmon Capital of the World so get out and catch the big one with Dave who has fished these waters for over 45 years.

You can get anything you want at Dave and Colleen's VRBO. ( to the tune of Alice' Restaurant)

  • 5 of 5

This was an excellent stay at a fully equipped and beautifully designed Cabin across from a driftwood beach. Dave and Colleen were excellent hosts. Even brought out a crab pot for us when we decided that we had to cook our own Dungeness. It was our first VRBO experience and it certainly won't be the last.

Great owners

  • 4 of 5

The owners, Dave & Colleen, are great, along with Camela and Lucy, their dogs! The place is on their property and back a little ways from the highway, but you can still slightly hear the cars. We had done a search on Google Earth before going, so knew that it wasn't directly on the water.

Colleen has a WONDERFUL assortment of toiletries! She is very generous in keeping the cabin stocked.

The woodwork and decorations are beautiful! Little treasures by local artists were tucked in various places. The stories that went along with them were good.

The only items I would have liked were a comfy recliner in the living room, a light directly over the sink, and a blender.

I loved the shower head, and the sheets were so cozy!

All in all we enjoyed our visit.

Owner's Response: SHeryl and Jeff! IT was so nice to meet you both and glad that you enjoyed yourselves. NIne days goes by pretty fast, I wish the weather was a bit better for you but you did have some great days, to bad you never opened the curtains to see the beautiful sunrises but now that we are friends on f/b you can see them there as well as the Eagles which I took tons of photos and the seal that suns all day on the rock, also took a video of it just scroll Down a ways and you will see. ALso the blue herons, which are so beautiful. I wish you would have called me about the blender as I would have run over and showed you where it was, it is a hand blender but is brand new in the box in the cupboard. As for the recliner, sorry we didn't have one for you but the white chair and couch are very comfy. So we are glad we had the chance to meet and will stay in touch, it was our pleasure having you stay with us! Colleen and Dave, Lucy and Camila

Amazing Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

This, without doubt, is as well equipped and luxurious a property that I have ever experienced for a short break. Dave and Colleen have taken time to make sure that there is enough you could wish for provided for your comfort, including most welcome provisions including eggs, bread, milk and wine. If I ever return to the area, this will be top of my list of places to stay

Oceanside Cabin is amazing over and over again.

  • 5 of 5

I wish I could say something about this place to keep people away so I could reserve it any time I wanted, but that is absolutely not the case. Dave and Colleen have created a fantastic vacation destination here. They have thought of absolutely EVERYTHING to make the stay as comfortable as possible. The cabin has amazing morning sunrise view, great views of the water and its super clean and comfortable inside. Colleen knows about every cool place to go, things to see and do, and great suggestions for everything. Dave has added some nice touches on the walls including a monster salmon caught Tyee-style, and a couple of homemade salmon/steelhead rods hanging on the walls. If you go fishing, make sure to book Dave- he's a very friendly and hardworking captain who will do whatever he can to get you into fish. The cabin is about 10-15mins from downtown Campbell River so you feel like you're not smack in the middle of all that activity but still close enough to go in/out easily. Dave & Colleen are such nice people.. We will definitely be back, this place is awesome.

The cabin is perfect and the Arctic Fox makes a great second room.

  • 3 of 5

Colleen and David were wonderful hosts. The kitchen is well stocked and Colleen had snacks and a bottle of wine waiting for us. We watched two eagles while having breakfast on the perfect deck. The only drawback is the noise from the traffic on coast road in front of the cabin.

Must see places in Campbell River are Canada's first Saltwater fishing pier. It is open 24 hrs a day. It has built-in rod holders, cleaning tables, picnic tables and benches, It also has a concession which is open from 7 am till dusk. They have the best hard ice-cream in town as well as hot dogs, fish and chips etc. They are open from May to October and supplies rods and tackle rentals as well as licenses. Free fishing and rods for kids under 16. Wheelchair accessible and onsite public washrooms and R.V. Parking. Fabulous setting for wildlife viewing! Oh and kids if it wiggles and has a tail you will get a free famous ice-cream cone! THIS IS AN AMAZING SITE, NOT TO BE MISSED! ELK FALLS SUSPENSION BRIDGE! This has just been opened and the sights are truly breathtaking.

Another great adventure is Quinsam Nature Trail and Elk Falls Provincial Park. The trail takes 2 kilometers one way or 45 minutes round trip and is easy. The trail is a gorgeous walk through the low lands of the Quinsam River through huge Douglas Fir trees with Cedar Trees, some are close to a 1000 yrs old. The trail follows spawning channels and all the old maple trees make a gorgeous canopy. I have complete directions if you choose to take a walk through this beautiful nature trail. Another famous area is Ripple Rock (Seymour Narrows) It was the most dangerous stretch of water on the inside passage of Vancouver Island. Between 1850 and 1953 more then 100 ships struck the rocks and sank. In 1953 the BC government decided to blast Ripple Rock apart, It turned out to be the largest peacetime non-nuclear explosion in the world. Walk the Ripple Rock trail up to the summit. At the end of the trail you will overlook Seymour Narrows where you can see Quadra Island, the mainland and a view of the ships passing by and if your timing is right you will see the Cruise Ships go by. Seymour Narrows is less then a kilometer wide and you are high up so the view is beautiful.

If you are into Golfing, Storey Creek Golf Club is just a 3 minute drive from the cabin or a beautiful walk. You will always see Eagles soaring, deer wandering all over, owls and an occasional black Bear! Storey Creek has been voted the 3rd best public course in B.C.

LOVE SKIING!!! Mount Washington is the place to go and only 30 minutes away. You can ski, snowboard, snowshoe, hike the beautiful trails. Mount Washington is the gateway to Strathcona park it provides boardwalk access to many lakes, and trails, it is the perfect place for families looking for the outdoor adventure. Loads of Mountain biking trails as well!

Campbell Rivers regional human history museum ranks with the biggest and the best across Canada. We are open year round, from October 1 to May 17, the Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 12-5 pm, in December daily from 10 to 5 and from May 18 to September 30, 10-5 pm. You must try Dicks Fish and Chips, the best in town and they are right across the Fishing Pier! If you are looking for steaks and seafood the best in town is "The Harbor Grill" they are pricey but well worth it. My favorite is the Seafood (crab, scallops and prawns) in a creamy sauce with angel hair pasta! Fabulous! Or Peppercorn sauce for your steaks, out of this world! The neighborhood pub on dogwood, called The Royal Coachman is great as well. There is also Moxie's bar and grill, they have the best Spinach Salad and then on the water is The Riptide Bar and restaurant, they have many items on there menu as well but I love there home made Pizza! These are just a few of my favorite choices. We Also have many Sushi Bars and restaurants as well such as Wasabi just up dogwood next to quality foods! AS YOU KNOW THIS IS A NON SMOKING CABIN! NO CANDLES AS WELL. WE HAVE PROVIDED BATTERY OPERATED CANDLES WHICH LOOK VERY REAL AND MAKE FOR A NICE ATMOSPHERE! IF YOU ARE USING THE OVEN AND STOVE PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT IT IS CLEAN WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED USING IT. WE HAVE A NICE BOTTLE OF WINE FOR YOU TO RELAX AND ENJOY AS LONG AS YOU DON'T DRIVE AFTER. THERE IS A BBO AND FIRE PIT WHICH ARE BOTH GAS, JUST IN CASE WE HAVE A FIRE BAN THE FIRE PIT IS STILL USABLE. YOU CAN ALSO HAVE FIRES ON THE BEACH AS LONG AS THERE IS NO FIRE BAN AND WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED MAKE SURE THE FIRE IS COMPLETELY OUT. SO RELAX AND ENJOY YOUR STAY WITH US. WE ARE HERE TO PLEASE YOU AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A MEMORABLE STAY. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN FISHING, DAVE HAS FISHED THESE WATERS FOR OVER 45 YEARS AND KNOWS WHERE TO CATCH THE BIG ONE SO IF YOU ARE INTERESTED JUST LET US KNOW. THE COST IS $120 PER HOUR WITH A 5 HOUR MINIMUM, THAT IS FOR ONE OR FOUR PEOPLE. EVERYTHING IS SUPPLIED EXCEPT YOUR FISHING LICENSES WHICH YOU CAN GET ONLINE OR AT ANY TACKLE SHOP.. FEEL FREE TO BRING WHATEVER YOU LIKE TO DRINK AND EAT ON THE BOAT. THE BOAT IS COVERED AND HEATED AND HAS A WASHROOM ON BOARD.
