About this property

Elegant Country House with pool. A great choice for families.

Stunning French country house. Perfect for families with children taking a holiday together. Also great for groups of friends, cyclists or work-related team building events. We welcome groups of cyclists, motoring enthusiasts, aspiring artists, yoga groups and anyone who needs the respite of this elegant though informal French haven.

Perfectly located in a peaceful setting but with all conveniences very nearby. Road links and airports are an easy drive and there are great road links to the ports. The property is close to the historic cities of Bordeaux, Cognac and Angouleme. Just 15 minutes off the N10 at Barbeziuex Charente, North of Bordeaux.

There is a large, recently renovated pool, generous sun-bathing terrace to enjoy and gated gardens, as well as a very large expanse of open green spaces with breath-taking views of the vineyards and endless sunflower fields. Manoir d'Aulagnes is set within 5 acres of French countryside and it is the only house on a quiet country lane.

The manoir is located within the charming department of the Charente, the home of world famous wines and the Cognac houses of Hennessy, Martel and Remy Martin to name but a few are only 40 minutes away.

Manoir d'Aulagnes has a beautiful classical facade, majestically surrounded by rows of vines and sunflowers, peaceful yet close to a village. Very private and set in its own grounds the elegant French house is at the heart of a former Cognac estate.
The manoir has its own large spaces, gardens and the most typically French view across sunflowers and vines. It has abundant parking, its own gardens, a large pool set in a walled garden with a large terrace with far reaching beautiful views.

Visit Bordeaux, Cognac and Angouleme for the shopping, museums and cafe society with such great ease. It is very close to several tranquil swimming lake beaches and a leisure quarry is nearby for jet skiing, It's only an hour and a half to the coast and the long stretches of sandy beaches. There are a variety of outdoor activities, swimming, sightseeing, cycling routes, running, horse riding or just enjoy relaxing by the pool, soaking up the heat of the sun.

The manoir has a practical, safe layout providing an abundance of accommodation.
We can provide high chairs, cots and baby equipment for more than one infant if we are given advance notice. With all local village amenities, tourist attractions in easy reach and all road links to major airports and routes to the ferry ports a comfortable distance away, you can enjoy all the convenience of a great holiday location.

Within the property there are seven bedrooms in total and four bathrooms with brand new showers throughout. Two of the bathrooms are en-suites and one bathroom has a double sink and roll top bath. There are two bedrooms with king size beds, one of which has an en-suite. There is one twin bedroom, one triple bedroom consisting of a double bed and a single (but could accommodate another single or cot if required), one quadruple with a double bed and two singles and finally there are two bedrooms with double beds, one of which has an en-suite. So there is plenty of room for everyone to have their own space.

The recently renovated swimming pool 10m x 5m, is set in a walled garden. As the walled garden is contained this means that any play space is very separate from the pool area though nearby and close enough to watch the children whilst you relax. The pool is equipped with a pool alarm for safety and peace of mind. You can sunbathe by the pool, enjoy the unique and beautiful views and completely unwind.

The house is extremely well equipped. There are attractive high ceilings and a feature original terracotta floor, the spaces are large and elegantly furnished with characterful, timeless furniture. There is also plenty of outdoor furniture for relaxing and to enjoy that very special brand of French outdoor living, relaxing and dining. As a group you will easily find your own space away from each other as there are several areas for relaxing and eating. Enjoy a pleasant stroll along the country lane with far reaching views. It's heavenly!

Perfectly placed though only a hop skip and a jump away from restaurants, shopping and the refreshing swimming lake beaches. So much to do, cycling, hiking, water parks, sailing, sandy surfing beaches and the flora and fauna filled Gironde Estuary, not forgetting wine and cognac tasting of course. There is so much to entertain all ages. Bordeaux 1hr, Cognac 40mins, Aubetterre Sur Dronne 25mins and Angouleme 30mins away. Also Saint Emillion only a short scenic 1hr drive away, or take a trip into the Dorgdogne 1hr - take your pick. Manoir d'Aulagnes is in an excellent location to enjoy the world famous Cognac Houses and the world renowned vineyards of South West France. Paris can be reached in only a 2hr30 train journey for a special brand of shopping day trip or romantic overnight visit.
If all that sounds like too much hard work you can simply just relax and enjoy the beautiful views here and sunbathe by the pool.

We are flanked by lines of lush green vines on a very quiet country lane, sunflower fields either side, perfect for little ones to cycle or skate. Manoir d'Aulagnes is a detached house with no neighbours, you will enjoy the peacefulness of the countryside. There are bountiful flora and fauna and spectacular birds of prey, foxes, hare and deer to spot. The property boasts wonderful views punctuated with fields of vivid sunflowers, maize and golden wheat. It has a vista that captivates your eyes throughout the seasons and is wonderful to photograph, paint or simply enjoy being surrounded by.

Manoir d'Aulagnes is a very special French getaway, a holiday with versatility for families, a sophisticated tranquil getaway for a group of friends or professionals who want a slice of an authentic French experience and a fantastic characterful base to explore and enjoy.

Wonderful Stay at Manoir Aulagnes
We travelled as a large group (4 adults, 8 kids of various ages from 6 to 15) The house is fabulous, even better than the pictures. The recently renovated pool is fantastic, especially at night when the tiles glow. The Kids loved it! The setting is tranquil and the grounds are lovey. The outside areas/games room with table football and Ping pong were also great. Would hightly recommend; Thanks Keith and Kirsten

Fantastic property and owners
What a wonderful experience for our extended family. Kirsten and Keith were great hosts, made us feel very welcome, and had worked on the house with huge attention to detail. The rooms are incredibly spacious and comfortable, bathrooms are beautifully appointed, and the whole environment and ambience are totally relaxing and enjoyable. All our family loved our stay.

Fabulous Stay!
What a fabulous holiday! We were a group of 16 friends and family, with a mix of adults and children, and we found this house to be perfect for our stay. We really couldn't fault it. The property was even more stunning in real life than in the pictures. There was plenty to keep everyone occupied with the pool area, ping pong, table football and beautiful open barn for dining outside. The area is very tranquil and the views from the property are stunning. We particularly enjoyed swimming at the river beach in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne and visiting the Friday market at Riberac. The hosts were extremely helpful and friendly and even did a free and very enjoyable Cognac tasting for us one evening which was much appreciated. We would definitely return. Many thanks.

We're Keith & Kirsten and we're both born and bred in Yorkshire. We met in London through work and the rest, as they say, is history! After initially wanting to buy and run a ski chalet, we had a rethink and started looking at Chateaux and Manoirs all over the south of France. We came across this house at the start of a full week of viewings and fell in love immediately. Purchasing the house wasn't at all straight forward, with Covid 19 adding to the complications we only arrived in July 2020 and we launched into a week of intensive cleaning and gardening to return the place to the standard we expect to provide. There's still improvements we're hoping to make to bring it up to spec but it's a beautiful place and we don't want to lose its character. In the course of the next 12 months we plan to prepare the place to utilise the beautiful large barn which has been prepared for the possibility of hosting events and weddings. There is also a large gravel, walled courtyard for 100 plus guests to dine outside or there are large areas of grass with spectacular views that would provide a perfect setting for a marquee. It's also equally possible to host a more intimate event using the smaller open barns if you're not looking to invite the world and his brother. We might still be relatively new to the area but so far we've found the locals and the French in general to be some of the most helpful and accommodating people we've ever met. We haven't had one moment of regret and if anyone is considering a new life abroad, we would urge you to follow your dreams like we did!

Why they chose this property

'Aulagnes' is a great choice of holiday because of its convenient location and beauty. It is a very special place that encapsulates all that we imagined to be typically French. Rolling vine filled fields and yet the beautiful Atlantic coast and beaches are only about an hour and a half away. Plenty to do and see locally with so many options. Outdoor life, sun filled days and a unique quality of life. This is a wonderful place for children to enjoy. It's a place that feels homely, safe and inspiring, a place to share and to make new memories. A place we gladly welcome holiday guests to relax and enjoy.

What makes this property unique

Manoir Aulagnes has a historically beautiful allure resting amoungst vines, sunflowers and open countryside like a Monet painting. It is a very special destination for holiday makers, especially families. With a pool fitted with an alarm and gated gardens it's a safe environment. It's very simple to get to a number of towns and big cities, it's an excellent location easy to get to from anywhere in Europe. It is also perfect as a location for weddings and events in our large oak beamed barn or outside with the vines as your back drop. A fantastic place to relax and experience an authentic French Holiday. We welcome groups of cyclists, motoring enthusiasts, aspiring artists, yoga groups and anyone who needs the respite of this elegant though informal French haven.
