Perfectly situated in one of the most beautiful seaside towns in Devon, Friday Cottage is a historic and characterful property built in the 1700's. Quietly tucked away, right in the centre of Salcombe and in a pedestrian alley just off picturesque Fore Street, the cottage is a few steps from the estuary & Salcombe's array of boutique shops, pubs & galleries. There are views of the sea and beautiful surrounding hills from the top terrace of the garden.
Friday Cottage is a fully refurbished, stone-built fisherman's cottage and is available to rent for just a limited number of weeks each year. It is our second home and has been tastefully furnished and equipped to a high standard. It is centrally-heated and comfortable and has a wood burning stove for winter stays.
The cottage sleeps 6 and has two bathrooms. A stable door leads directly from the covered porch into the spacious modern kitchen/diner. The kitchen is well planned and presented and features grey granite worktops, an integrated dishwasher, electric hob & oven and a generous fridge/freezer. Emma Bridgewater crockery is the order of the day and practical equipment - thermos flasks, cool bags and a BBQ help you make the most of the outdoors. The adjacent dining area has a generous oak table & chairs and french doors lead to the rear garden and lower terrace where a Bridgman table and matching garden chair-set make for comfortable dining outdoors.
From the dining area, one doorway leads to a compact mosaic-tiled Shower room & downstairs loo while the passageway beneath the stairs leads to the elegant living room with its two beautiful sofas, a cosy wood-burning stove, large flat screen TV, games cupboard and characterful tongue and grooved wall panelling. Practical hard flooring is laid in the kitchen to allow for welly boots and sandy feet but in the rest of the cottage there is natural Sisal carpeting by Alternative Flooring, a rug by Roger Oates and soft furnishings by designer Sarah Hardaker.
Narrow stairs lead up to the compact upper floor to the well-proportioned family bathroom (with shower, corner bath and WC). All three compact, light-filled bedrooms benefit from lovely views over the pretty tree-filled garden to the rear, or over gardens towards the old stone church at the front. All of the rooms feature curtains with blackout linings for lazy mornings and two have additional blackout blinds.
The main bedroom features a new Vi Spring 5' 6" king+ bed, fitted cupboards, a vintage painted table and a hand basin. Next to this is a twin room with two comfortable 3ft beds, a fitted cupboard, an antique bedside table and a painted chest of drawers in the characterful bay window. The third twin bedroom benefits from two new 3ft Vi Spring beds, a fitted wardrobe and a pretty Lloyd loom arm chair.
A cupboard on the landing houses the combi- boiler (for constant hot water supply), an integrated washing machine/drier for emergency use and a drying rack, iron & ironing board.
Outside there is a lovely walled garden with two sunny terraces, with lovely views of the surrounding hills and parts of the estuary. Very small children will need supervision, as the garden has steep steps, and as a family home the cottage is unsuitable for groups of unaccompanied teenagers.
The famous harbour and estuary, popular with sailors and other water sports enthusiasts, is within 2 minute’s walk of the cottage, whilst the magnificent beaches of East Portlemouth and Mill Bay can be reached via a small passenger ferry that runs from the quay throughout the year.
