Beautiful home in a convenient location
Very nice appointed Vrbo, in a great location close to mountains and downtown area with great bars and restaurants. Other than another group of renters occupying “our” part of the home when we got there we easily sorted it out by approaching and communicating with the renters. Jim was unavailable at time of this confusion (Friday at 9pm) as the phone number left went straight to a voicemail. There is one door code to enter essentially 2 “rental” units. Which caused the confusion between the groups.

Christmas in Vermont
Our Christmas weekend at the Terraces was perfect! Jim and Kathi were way more than “superhosts” as they went above and beyond to make our holiday festive! They provided a Christmas tree, a bottle of wine and homemade candy, and invited us for drinks our first evening there. The accommodations were much larger and cozier than the pictures depict. There was plenty of wood for the woodstove and all the amenities you could want or need (kitchen utensils, towels, games, etc.). The bed and couches were very comfortable, and the entire home immaculate. We enjoyed walking the trails on the property every day. It’s a very short drive (about 5 minutes) to historic downtown Waterbury with lots of restaurants and shops. Waitsfield was about 15 minutes away. No doubt we will be staying in the Terraces again and again!

Beautiful location!
The owners were great and communicated checkin process and helpful with having recommendations. The pictures online don’t show how great the place is with lots of sunlight and fully stocked place. Definitely will be back.

We're a recently retired couple. We've both been in education since the early 70's. Jim worked mostly in higher ed (Boston University and Hunter College) while Kathi focused on K-12 as a teacher and principal. Our current work involves consulting with schools and universities around the world as they seek to better use modern technologies in meaningful ways.

We split our time between wintering at Crossett Hill Lodge in Duxbury, Vermont, summering at our cottage on Lake Elmore, and visiting our house in France a few times each year. Each property is available for short-term rental.

Why they chose this property

We lived in Williamstown, Vermont from 1972-1988. When we moved down country, we kept our rental property there. Then, our daughter and her husband bought a house in Duxbury so we did too. Dividing our time between mountains and lake is just about perfect for us!

When we got it, the Lodge needed a complete renovation. We spent three years building bathrooms, tearing down and refinishing thousands of feet of pine boards. They were very dark brown when we moved in. Each board was carefully removed, planed, varnished (with VT whey varnish) and put back up. The house has new windows, insulation, new kitchens, and so on.

We both like doing renovations so it's been a great project for us. And, we love being a half mile from our daughter and her young family!

What makes this property unique

The lodge is out in the country, close to town, with skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking out the back door.

Consider both units for your next family reunion!

Opening our two units to renters has meant a steady stream of very interesting people since we started renting in the summer of 2015.
