About the property

Two Bedroom Cottage In Tranquil Setting Close Walk To The Beach

Relax in our private, romantic Cape Neddick cottage, overlooking a two-acre meadow and woodland, and comfortably close—by foot, bike, or car—to the amenities of York, Ogunquit, Kittery, and Portsmouth.

Though close to amenities, this cottage is off the beaten path on a quiet private way, near the Cape Neddick River. It offers great natural light, lovely views of the surrounding landscape... and abundant tranquility.

An open Dining area forms the cottage’s center. Its white vaulted wood ceiling and walls give the adjacent open-concept Kitchen and Living spaces an airy, relaxed feel. A gas fireplace-stove warms you up on the occasional chilly evening. A four-person Italian flip top dining table with comfortable chairs opens to accommodate eight persons when needed. The Living Room has a comfy leather sofa and flat screen TV. The Kitchen is fully furnished with stove/oven, microwave, and all necessary cooking and serving ware. The Deck, overlooking the meadow and woodland, has a dining table with chairs with umbrella. Two Bedrooms and a small Loft provide among them a king, a queen, and a double bed (all comfortable), and privacy, along with linen and towels.

Amenities nearby include beaches, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, boating and sailing, whale-watching and fishing, hiking and nature centers, as well as historic and cultural activities including live music and theater. There is a rich assortment of farm-and-sea-to-table dining, both fine and casual. For a more detailed list of what you will find nearby, see, York Maine.

Our cottage provides you with comfort, quiet, and closeness to a rich slice of Southern Maine.

About us:

My wife and I are architects, reside in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and purchased our cottage in the late summer of 2014.

We have vacationed in the York area for years and found ourselves spending more time in Southern Maine. We chose our cottage in part because its location is convenient, but also because its park-like two-acre site gives us privacy and quiet in a genuinely beautiful location. We love having beaches so close, and the fact that after years of exploring, we continue to discover more here in Southern Maine.

We hope you decide to vacation with us and find our cottage as charming as we do!

Cozy and enjoyable

  • 4 of 5

Thank you Jim. Comfortable beds and cozy cottage. Room in the backyard for kids and dogs to play. We enjoyed the fire pit and walking down to the river. We appreciated the baseboard heating and gas fireplace (nights get cool in September!). Location is convenient to town and beaches but not quite walking distance, especially with kids, so daily driving and parking is involved. Beach chairs and boogie boards were provided (THANK YOU). Only suggestions for improvement: extra blankets would have been nice. Jim was also difficult to reach at times-- emails were not returned in a timely way and his voicemail was always full. Nevertheless when we did reach him he was a kind and accommodating host and we would return to this property again!

Cottage was adorable. Close to activities yet tucked away; modest but functional. We used both bedrooms and I can attest that the beds were very comfortable. The ceiling fans worked well for warm nights. There is a small porch off the kitchen that is a nice spot to drink morning coffee or read a book. The field was just amazing and perfect for our dog. I think she had as good of a vacation as we did!

Lovely Cottage for short or long term stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Jim's lovely cottage for 2 months, mid-August thru mid-October 2016. Everything was delightful, including Jim the owner. We wanted to find a Northern get away from the hot summer in Florida (and Hurricane Season!). By the end of our 2 month stay we didn't want to leave, but of course, had to. The cottage is located on a very quiet and peaceful 2 acre lot. Deer would run thru the property once a day, and even our little dog Brody was intrigued watching them. The cottage has a nice small kitchen with everything needed for cooking. There is a grill outside and a fire pit in the yard with a table and umbrella. We were able to wash our clothes in the washer and dryer in the basement, where we also stored our bikes etc. The king bed in the master bedroom was exceptionally comfortable, in addition to the queen bed in the 2nd bedroom. We did not need to use the loft which had a 3rd bed. The living room is small and cozy with a nice tv. The dining area looks just like the picture on this VRBO site. The fireplace was a dream come true! Since we were there thru mid-October the fireplace was our source of heat, and ambience! We had our 17lb dog with us and he loved going in the yard and walking (on leash of course!). There are about 10 steps going up to a sitting area prior to entry into the cottage. There is a small table with 2 chairs, which was perfect for morning coffee! The driveway is stoned, and has parking for 3 cars. The cottage is located on a private road, surrounded by privacy. The house next door, 2 acres away, is directly on the Cape Neddick River and you have access to the river if you so desire. We road our bikes daily to the Beach area which was only 1 mile away. I won't mention all the activities in the area because if you are reading this, I'm sure you are aware that Cape Neddick is a great location to access Ogunquit, Kennebunk, Portsmouth NH, and we also went to The White Mountains & Acadia National Park. Jim is the owner and extremely easy to work with.... he will tell you all that you need to know. Also, we enjoyed the Cape Neddick Inn for lunch and dinner which was about 1/2 mile away.... very easy to get to! Don't forget to eat the Maine Ice Cream daily! We enjoyed Jim's cottage so much and are returning again in 2017 for our extended stay. I know you will not be disappointed! Enjoy!

Every bit as adorable as advertised!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, son and I spent a week in May and it was so pleasant. The cottage was well appointed and so comfortable. Even the beds and bedding were comfortable, not always the case in vacation rentals. The location was beautiful, relaxing and only a few minutes from the beach by car. We wouldn't hesitate to rent this cottage again. The owner was a pleasure to work with!

Our new home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is just lovely. It is minimalist and crisp white and lends itself to making it your own during your stay. We live just outside Boston and do not have a large yard so our children and dog really enjoyed the large yard. We saw deer daily and enjoyed roasting smores around the fire pit in the evening. The property is a 5 minute drive to Long Sands and during the week we never had a problem parking any time of day, on the weekends an early start secured parking. We dined nearby at Stones Throw several times a week. The staff were friendly and remembered our preferences... Some of the best salads we've ever enjoyed.

We only had two neighbors on the private lane and they were both friendly and welcoming. The location is in a very private wooded area that is just minutes from route 1 and we enjoyed everyplace from Portsmouth, NH- Kennebunkport, ME along this road.

The owner was very considerate and flexible. He addressed any of the minor concerns or questions that came up immediately. He visited us at the cottage and shared very some of the activities that his family enjoys nearby. We felt very welcome and look forward to making this an annual tradition.

First Renters!!!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this sweet cottage just last week. We were the first vacation renters for the new owners. Jim and Gina were attentive and kind, they went out of their way to ensure that we had what we needed to have an enjoyable week. The cottage is located in a very private, quiet area. The lawn is lovely and our dogs enjoyed playing in the yard and on nearby long sands beach. Comfortable beds, quiet space...was a very restful trip. Already looking forward to my next stay at this special place, I feel lucky to have to found it.
