About this property

Idyllic Modern Cottage on Roxborough Island, Best Views on Stoney Lake

This spectacular island property includes a main cottage, two cabins, and a new large dock. Built from antique barn timbers, the cottage is approximately 2200 sf, multi-levelled, spacious and open. It has 3 bedrooms and sleeps 6. Vaulted living room spaces include a fireplace and offer beautiful views across the lake through floor to ceiling windows. At the main level of the cottage, there is a well equipped kitchen and pantry, a second sitting area, a laundry area, and a 4 piece bathroom.

The cabins also have fabulous views across the lake to the West and North. Our South cabin is approximately 18x20 sleeps 2 with a king size and an extra single bed. This cabin also has an adjoining 3 piece bathroom. The East cabin is 16x15 and sleeps 2 with a small couch and a desk. Each cabin has its own deck for quiet outdoor space, and there are two large decks surrounding the main cottage.

Stoney Lake is known for its rugged beauty, and the cottage is beautifully situated elevated on a point to enjoy stunning views to the west, north and east. There is excellent swimming from the dock and raft. The rental includes a canoe and 2 kayaks.

Beyond expectations. Beautiful from top to bottom.
We had an amazing stay at this breathtaking cottage. We wanted a true cottage experience, but with some of the creature comforts ;) It checked all the boxes for us. Arriving at the Island was like walking into a Group of Seven painting. The beauty of the land and the water and sunsets was beyond our expectations. The cottages appealed to our passion for design. Mid century modern meets rustic cottage in just the right balance. We can't wait to come back. We cooked, we swam, we drank wine as the sunset... and never wanted to leave. Canadian summer "feels". Thanks for such a great experience!

Great cottage in a beautiful island spot
We had a wonderful time at this peaceful cottage. There is lots of space with 3 bedrooms in the main cottage, and two more spacious cabins, it is super clean and well organized, while still maintaining a "cottagey" feeling that we were looking for. There are various spots to sit and enjoy the scenery, from the dock with lounge chairs to a great deck with a big table to have dinner outside and watch the sunset. We enjoyed canoeing, kayaking around the other islands, and the swimming was great, the water is shallow enough to walk in, but gets nice and deep further out. The owners are very welcoming and pleasant, we had a great experience. We definitely recommend this great cottage in a beautiful spot, and will probably return in future years!

Paradise on Stoney Lake
Our family (children, spouse and grandchildren) spent a week at this beautiful retreat on Stoney Lake. We have memories we will always treasure of spending time together fishing, swimming, tubing, skiing - the sound of loons and views of a setting sun at our evening meals. The property was well stocked with lots of space. The owners were responsive to every small problem. We hope to return and highly recommend this piece of paradise..

Peter and Nancy have been on Stoney lake for nearly 60 years now. Peter's family bought part of the island in the 50s. Their 4 children spent many summers on the lake as have their 8 grandchildren. Peter is a former architect and built the property from barn timbers in the 70s. He also built the cabins in the same language of timber and glass, maximizing light and surrounding views. Not one tree was cut down in the process!

Why they chose this property

Set on a multi-billion year old granite outcrop, this is a special place, to us and to many others on Stoney Lake. The surrounding area has a rich natural and cultural history with a sacred Ojibway site nearby (see the Petroglyphs).

We look forward every summer to connecting with rock, the oaks and pines, the ospreys and loons, as well as family and friends on the lake. It is a part of our family fabric, and for most of us, it's a part of our souls.

What makes this property unique

Situated on an island point, the views to the surrounding lake are expansive and magnificent -- particularly summer sunrises and sunsets enjoyed from within the cottage, the main decks and dock. The location of the property gives it a level of privacy which is rare. Deep water surrounds the property and provides great swimming from the dock and raft.

The cottage and cabins offer both spaces to meet as a larger group and privacy to retreat when needed. The property has evolved from 1975 to the latest cabin built in 2005 to accommodate the owners, their children and growing families. Major renovations were undertaken in 2010 to maintain the property.

Stoney Lake has been called of the jewel of the Kawarthas. Located less than 2 hours from downtown Toronto, it is amazingly convenient to access.

We have parking available at a shared family boathouse.
