Unpretentious small cottage in a quiet wooded setting.
Friendly owners, relaxed valley woodland setting. Lovely walk to beach and pub (about 30 minutes). Perfect for a quiet long weekend, despite the cold sea mist.

Relaxing holiday
If you wish to get away from it all, this is the place. Clean and tidy accommodation and the enclosed garden is great for the dog. Like the really friendly owners state.Take a torch because it is dark with no light pollution. Star gazing on the decking is amazing. Owners have fitted a new kitchen this season which is well equipped. Ideal base for exploring north Cornwall and it's a pleasant walk to the beach. No dogs allowed on beach after Easter, but plenty fields for them to run about in. Have stayed here before and will be returning again.

Really peaceful, very clean and well equipped
We had a wonderful time at the old shippon. Waking up listening to the stream next to the garden was just heaven. Charlie and Jane are lovely, so helpful. The cottage was very clean and well looked after. It was really nice having the log burner aswell, especially at this time of year, it made the evenings cosy. And the walk to the beach was just perfect. The dogs loved running around the fields at mineshop and we spent hours throwing sticks for them in the river. We ate out at the Coombe Barton which is the pub at the local beach and it was delicious. Service was with a smile aswell. We visited Boscastle which is close by and the rocky valley near Tintagel, Absolutely beautiful. Our holiday to Mineshop was just what we needed and we have already booked up to stay again later in the year. Thank you Charlie, Jane and Mutley of course! See you in September!

Perfect break - immaculate cottage - stunning location
We have just returned from a short break in The Old Shippon with my parents, husband, brother and sister in-law. We were all very impressed with this wonderful property. The garden is large and nicely enclosed which was great for our two dogs. The Old Shippon was the perfect place for a staycation! It was beautifully decorated, immaculate and had everything we needed to be able to cook, the fire was an added bonus which made the cottage cosy and warm; perfect for the winter. Charlie, Jane and family couldn't be more friendly and accommodating, they gave us so many great tips and advice. We enjoyed such amazing walks; Alfie and Lucy (our dogs) simply loved the beach at Crackington Haven and Milook.. The cottage setting was just lovely, so peaceful with the most amazing scenery. The cottage overlooks the woodland, we even saw two deer! I have never seen so many stars! We loved sitting outside, wrapped up in a blanket, looking out for shooting stars. There is no light pollution at all and the sky is so clear! We will definitely be returning in the near future!

4/10 Poor

Overpriced, damp
The cottage is functional, but a bit small for 6 adults. When we stayed in winter it felt very damp even with the dehumidifier on. The fire is tucked away so you can't sit next to it, except on the floor. Finally, the fact that there are no towels provided with the cottage was hidden in the bottom of a very long list of things about the cottage. We had not noticed this and the owners of the cottage were not helpful when we arrived without any towels. Nice scones were provided on arrival.
