Rundown and Dirty, filthy beaches

  • 2 of 5

I was very disappointed with this unit and beach. The pictures and reviews were all great so we thought we would give it a try. The moment I opened the door I could tell it was older. It had a very musty smell even though the owner told us it was just cleaned that morning from renters that had just left the prior day. It was very dusty and worn looking. The furniture in the main living area was worse than my college apartment days. The couch was so dirty and uncomfortable. I never used it. The cable was very basic and only had the main local channels so if you get stuck in doors for any reason, be prepared to watch the owner’s collection of DVD’s or bring your own. The washer/dryer are ancient. The dryer door would not stay shut so I had to use duct tape. The second day we were there the plumber had to come out because the toilets were not flushing properly. There was one plunger for 3 bathrooms that did not work and was likely bought at the dollar store up the road. The owner was very standoffush and acted like they didn’t care. They responded right away by getting the plumber out but never reached again to make sure everything was ok. The refrigerator was stocked with opened used containers of various expired products. I filled 2 garbage bags to clean it out and walked them down the 3 flights of stairs to the dumpster. If you are looking for crystal blue gulf waters and sugar sand beaches do not visit Galveston. You will find brown dirty water which is the flow from the Mississippi River. You will also be disappointed that the beaches are littered from one end to the other with debris and garbage. They are not maintained at all. I had to dodge debris everyday on my morning beach run. Local restaurants are run down and dirty. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. We drove all the way from Michigan, 20 hours to have a relaxing beach vacation. The only nice thing I can say is that the local people are very warm and friendly. It’s a shame that Galveston is in such bad shape. I question if maybe it’s the hurricane activity that has caused the demise of the area? Maybe I should have done more research and just stayed home. We spent a lot of money to take this trip

Great floor plan that allows room for everyone to hangout!

  • 5 of 5

This home is just a short walk to the beach. The owners have gone out of their way to ensure the home was stocked with everything you need including beach chairs! The kitchen has really been upgraded compared to most rentals! If you like to cook just bring your groceries! Clean, convient, and we loved all games that were provided! A definite consideration. On your Galveston list!

A great home in an even better location

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with a group of my college friends. We tend to spend most of our vacation on the beach and cooking/eating at the house. It was so wonderful to be steps away from a private beach that we never had a problem getting the perfect spot. The house was welcoming and had everything we needed. I would definitely book it again and my friends are in agreement.

wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time, the house was clean well maintained and updated. Our family of 8 was very comfortable. Loved having all the stuff available for a small child. It was a big help for our 2 year old grandson. Just a short walk to the beach and especially liked that the beach was not crowded.
