Located just 12 miles from the epicurean center of Asheville, the Carolina Jewel rest on a green meadow with a babbling brook. Perfect for family gathering with space to run and play!
The Carolina Jewel has 5 bedrooms in the historic 1845 Victorian Farmhouse and an additional 2 bedrooms in the spacious Creekside Crystal Cottage on the property across the creek underneath a canopy of trees. Each of the suites in the Historic house, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has its’ own unique charm. All bedrooms have private baths and working fireplaces. The oldest portion of the home, the Great Room that was built in 1845, has rustic rough-hewn logs and its fireplace is made of rocks pulled from the fields outside. Adjacent to the great room is the fully stocked modern kitchen and laundry room for your use. In 1880 an addition, of the Victorian style, was added to the log cabin to accommodate the growing family. A major interior renovation added luxury bathrooms without disturbing the charm of the by gone era.

Michael & Eva Greene, Asheville natives who have had the luck to be able to live in Asheville all their lives (well it’s not over yet, but who’s counting!) Michael comes from a long line of jewelers and is passionate about gemstones, thus the inspiration for naming the suites in the Carolina Jewel. Eva spent 25 years in the travel business and then joined Michael in the family business. Together they have traveled much of the world and consider themselves blessed to live in Western North Carolina. Today they are transiting the business to the next generation which gives them the freedom to interact with and be concierge to guest coming to visit.
Eva Greene purchased this estate in 2014
It is unusual to find such a historic property that has been so well restored and maintained. The history and beauty of Buncombe County makes it a great place to visit or a great place to call home. We often tell visitors that we live in Asheville 'due to an accident of birth'. We were both born here and are fortunate that we are able to claim the title of Natives.
The location of The Carolina Jewel is perfect. Only 5 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway. About 15 minutes from all the amazing restaurants, art galleries and nightlife of Asheville. Only a few miles from the charming small town of Weaverville which is growing with its own expanding collections of food and art.
Outdoor activist will love the proximity of the river with its canoeing, rafting and tubing as well as fishing. Motorcycles and bicycles co-exist peacefully in Asheville.
And if you tire of eating out in all the fine eating establishments there are plenty of tail gate markets, farmers markets, and food trucks for carry out or engage the services of our recommended private chef who will cook and clean up while you relax around the fire.
The unique benefit of choosing the Carolina Jewel is the experience of stepping into a home that is 170 years old and thriving! The furnishing are period pieces combined with family pieces that have been lovingly restored and put back into use.
Another of the benefits are the beds and the linens. Luxury memory foam mattresses and pillow top mattresses will assure you of a great nights sleep!
We are in the middle of our one week stay at the Carolina Jewel with 17 family members celebrating my mom's 90 birthday. I have rented many vacation rental homes around the country and must say this is one of the best I have rented. The grounds are beautiful, the house and cottage are furnished nicely, beds are super comfortable, nice linens and towels, kitchens are well stocked with great cooking tools.. and house is in a great loc only 10 minutes off the highway
Our family tries to get together annually, but it has been several years since we have been able to pull it off due to health issues. 2017 was special gathering for us and we wanted a special location. I cannot express how lucky we were to pick the Carolina Jewel Properties and Eva and Michael!
The property is the perfect combination of 1800s historical charm and modern convenience. The owners are two of the nicest folks we have met in our many years of renting VRBO properties. My sister commented that it was like staying in a fine hotel - every convenience was available from coffee pods and bath robes, to marshmallows for s'mores.
We were able to continue traditions - low country boil, corn hole, Rook tournaments, stories around the campfire, and the young ones thoroughly enjoyed the Navitat Zip Lines and tubing on the river.
The property itself is amazingly restored with beautiful surprises around every corner. We especially enjoyed the many porches for coffee, conversation, and quiet relaxation. The bedrooms are huge and comfortable. We utilized both houses but gathered at the "big house" for group meals and evening entertainment.
As great as the properties are , the genuine southern hospitality of the owners was unsurpassed in our experience. They were there early to greet our oldest son who came in on a red eye flight from Spokane,WA. They allowed him early access so that he could sleep before we arrived. They also accommodated a delayed departure. It is obvious that the happiness of their guests brings them joy!
Timing was such that our group received a private tour of their new addition, a magnificent tree house on the hillside above the Carolina Jewel. Michael and Eva partnered with the "Treehouse Guys" to build this masterpiece, and the craftsmanship and creativity on display is truly amazing. Please check it out if you have a smaller group staying there. It would be a once in a lifetime opportunity.
In closing, we thank you, Eva and Michael, for your hospitality and for the love and care you have given this beautiful piece of historical property. We certainly hope to enjoy it again.
Warm regards!!!
The Combs Family
We had a wonderful time with three families with young children. Great outdoor space and plenty of room for eight adults plus kids (we brought our own travel cribs). The house had everything we needed. We made a fire outside in the fire ring and marshmallows, which was fantastic. Two ovens made it easy to make quick breakfasts and dinners. Gas fireplace kept the house cozy.
Cozy but spacious. Clean and comfortable
Our family was there for a cousins reunion.
The house and property are nestled in the beautiful North Carolina mountains with gorgeous views from all directions. Each of us had our own room, 5 bedrooms in the main house, each decorated beautifully and equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. Each bedroom has its own full bathroom and a fireplace. So cozy for a romantic getaway or a family gathering.
We had a few sports buffs in our crowd so the tv and wifi was a bonus.
The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances and everything you’ll need to cook meals or bring food in from some of the local restaurants. We did both, cooked in and picked up some Moe’s Original Bar B Que.
It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend staying in either the main house, The Carolina Jewel, or the two bedroom cottage, The Crystal Creekside cottage, or even the treehouse, aka The Tree Castle if you want or need a getaway. You will not be disappointed.
Eva and Michael Greene will do everything in their power to make sure you have a memorable experience.
The house and grounds are absolutely beautiful! We recently were married on a beautiful Fall afternoon while the leaves were starting to change. The grounds easily accommodated 70 guests, a band, and large tent in case of rain. Between the main house and cottage, 20 family and friends slept there over the weekend. Eva and Michael are amazing hosts and went above and beyond to open their home up to us for our special day! I highly recommend this property for weddings or family gatherings.
Love everything. The area and people in the community were very friendly. The private bathroom in each room was a plus.
