Hello! Our names are Mike and Weegee and we are the proud owners of the Sweet Start B&B. The two of us are actually imports from Portland Oregon where we met on a dragon boat. Once our padding obsession had run its course, we decided to embark on our next great adventure -- life north of the border. We packed up and moved to Canada in 2011. From Commercial Drive to the Sunshine Coast, our time in British Columbia has been a great adventure that I (Weegee) routinely blog about.
The two of us work from home (I am a blogger, my husband is a computer software engineer), we get to enjoy the little things that Gibsons has to offer like a midday treat at the local bakeries. Since we don't have a car, we walk almost everywhere and can be seen exploring coastal towns hand in hand. For further destinations, we take the bus or use our membership as Coast Car Co-Op members.
There is a cat on site, our not-so-slender Random, but he isn't allowed in the suite and is quite shy of anyone beyond my husband and I. He's getting over it but just to let those allergic to cat know.
Weegee Sachtjen purchased this apartment in 2014
While we were living in downtown Vancouver, we discovered the Sunshine Coast during a weekend getaway trip. It was a gloriously sunny summer weekend that fell on the day that Robert Creek residents (Creekers) were painting the mandala. After painting a small block in the huge mosiac pavement painting, I realized that the sense of community and creative freedom was something I wanted in my every day life. Within two months we had moved to the Sunshine Coast. It's been the best decision we ever made.
We purchased this property at the end of July of last year as our way of sharing our love for the Sunshine Coast and Gibsons, BC with other vacationers.
Our home is located in what I believe is the prime location for enjoying life on the Coast and in Gibsons. We are on the hill between lower and upper Gibsons with an amazing view of the inlet. Whether you are walking or driving, restaurants, pubs and shops are a short distance away. Even though we live in the heart of it all, it is quiet, peaceful and serene.
We had a blast. The suite was everything we needed and more!!! It was exactly what we thought it was going to be and more! So close to Gibson Landing and the view from the living room is amazing! We wish we had more days to spend there!
We could only stay for one night but it would have been a nice place to call home for a few days.
The suite was well-appointed, clean and very comfortable and our hosts were very welcoming.
Awesome location! View from seats outside where we could sit after the kids were in bed! Awesome homemade granola and coffee! I could run to downtown and it was so cute down there!
We stayed one night on July 16 to 17, 2016. Directions to the suite were clear and had no problem finding it. The owners were available if we needed anything. The suite was very clean and has everything you need for your stay. The bed and pillows were very comfy and the bath towels, wowed us. Oh and the view, very nice! Will definitely come back to this gem.
This property is really lovely featuring a spectacular view of the ocean and all the amenities you could need. Very clean and well maintained with lots of helpful reference material (restaurant and walk recommendations) handy. The owners, in particular, are very kind and thoughtful. They knew I was without a car and even left me some bus tickets! They live above but they were so quiet I barely heard them. I'd highly recommend this suite to anyone wanting to stay in Gibson's. It was a short walk to shopping and an even shorter walk to the beach.
We stayed in this wonderful sweet this month to attend a wedding. It was very nicely appointed, with every last detail thought of. The supplies for breakfast were great and the hosts are super friendly and easy to talk to. The view is great and parking is handy in the driveway. Will definitely stay here again.
The Sunshine Coast, although part of mainland BC, is a beautiful area that has a bit of laid-back island-esque charm.
With a view of the sound, our vacation rental is located in a unique place between upper and lower Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast. In either direction, we are within walking distance of many of the shops, restaurants and pubs that give this small fishing village it's local character.
From the famous Molly's Reach restaurant from 'The Beachcomber' TV series to the tasty treats of More Cafe in Lower Gibsons, everything is a short walk away (as long as you don't mind a small hill hike back). In upper Gibsons, there are grocery stores, thrift shops, a single-showing movie house and even a curling rink -- all just a short walk or a few minutes drive away.
Our house is located near Gibsons Way and accessible via the local bus lines (#90 and the #1), which originate at the ferry terminal and go to Sechelt. A car isn't necessary and there are plenty of pathways, hiking trails and nature walks to make it interesting.
In addition to walking, Gibsons offers the outdoor enthusiast their choice of adventure during the summer. From kayaking to sailboating to SUPs, hitting the water is easy with the marina a short distance away. If you are into shopping and looking for that special unique item, Gibsons has several stores to strike your fancy, including Blackberries and Whimsey in Lower Gibsons, Embellish in Upper Gibsons and the Mosiac Market in Davis Bay (a short and worthwhile up the coast).
The Sunshine Coast is known for it's art and hosts an Art Crawl (October). The region has the most artist per capita out of Canada. The 'Purple Banner Route' (Summer) allows visitors to drop in and see jewelers, potters, painters and photographers in their studio. Plus, there are a number of galleries located in lower Gibsons, plus the museum.
There are an assortment of pubs and restaurants for your dining pleasure, including the Persephone Brewing Company on North Road and Blackfish pub in upper Gibsons.
During the summer, lower Gibsons comes alive with music on the weekends, a Sunday farmer's market and a Friday public market. There are festivals such as the Sea Cavalcade (late July) and the painting of the mandala in Robert's Creek.
The true beauty of the area comes from the laidback, comfortable nature of the region. The people you pass on the street will say hello and everyone is charming. It's a place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city and reconnect with yourself.
