About Nick/Laurie Carter

My great-grandfather William Purnell Carter lived at 207 W. 4th Street in Lewes and my grandfather Frank S. Carter Sr. lived at 345 Market Street and 412 Bay Avenue in Lewes. Sr. built his beach house on the bay front in 1923 and my father bought his home on Lewes Beach on Bay Avenue in 1946 where I grew up. I had such a great childhood on Lewes Beach; swimming, water skiing, sailing at the Lewes Yacht Club, fishing, scuba diving and surfing at Indian River Inlet.

After graduating from Lewes High School in 1965, I attended Columbian Preparatory School in Washington DC for one year prior to my plebe year at the US Naval Academy. I graduated from USNA in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and was commissioned as an Officer in the US NAVY as an Ensign. My father was a member of USNA '42 and a World War II Veteran, my grandfather graduated from USNA in 1909 and was a World War I Veteran.

I moved back to Lewes in December 1997, obtained my Delaware Real Estate Broker's License and joined Jack Lingo Realtors in Lewes on January 1, 1998. I have known the Lingo family since 1957 when they built their home across the street from our house on Bay Avenue in Lewes.

I married Laurie Draper from Milford, DE on March 18, 2000. Our son Frank S. Carter IV was born in 2002. Our daughter, Anne Draper Carter was born in 2004.

Nick/Laurie Carter purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Nick/Laurie Carter chose Lewes Beach (East of Canal)

1510 Bay is centrally located on Lewes Beach, about half way between the Roosevelt Inlet and the Public Beach in Lewes. An easy bike ride to 2nd Street otherwise known as 'downtown Lewes', marinas, restaurants, Cape Henlopen State Park and Rehoboth Beach. A bay front gem with room for the entire family with ping pong, surfboards, beach chairs and more. This Cottage has been in our family since 1946 !

What makes this cottage unique

You may not find a more unique beach house than 1510 Bay Avenue with full basement and wrap around beach front porch overlooking Lewes Beach and the Delaware Bay.

'Baywatch' has been totally renovated with newly refinished hardwood floors throughout, a totally new kitchen with new appliances, floors, walls, cabinets, and counters!! New electric and plumbing has been installed and the entire home has been painted, new furniture is in place as well as two rec rooms with flat screen TVs, etc! The bedrooms feature 1 king, 1 queen, 2 sets of bunks, and 2 singles.....there is even a queen sleeper for over flowing family needs......

Beautiful house with unreal beach location

  • 5 of 5

Nick and Laurie's 'Baywatch' is an INCREDIBLE home. We booked Baywatch for some of our wedding guests to stay and to host a pre-wedding bonfire on the beach. The guests who stayed LOVED the home and the attendees of the bonfire were AMAZED at the house's vicinity to the beautiful and peaceful Lewes Bay (just steps away!).

It was a perfect venue for what was a fantastic bonfire. The wraparound back porch and beach are sublime for relaxing and visiting with friends.

Nick and Laurie were extremely accommodating and Nick even met with us prior to make sure Baywatch would be fitting for our event. Overall, I give Baywatch my highest recommendations and feel anyone will love their stay at this beautiful beach home!

We LOVED this place, my family had the best time here and made a life time of memories. The house was so cozy and we felt like it was home.

The blue chairs...... they could charge hundreds dollars an hour just to sit in these chairs, I was calling it my detox station , you sit there and you do not have a care in the world.

The house is located in the perfect spot in Lewes close enough to ride bikes to town .

Lewes is a wonderful little town.

The owner ( Laurie) was wonderful to work with.

We will be back !!!

A Fun Stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at this lovely "Baywatch" home on the Delaware Bay. We had 9 of us that stayed comfortably in this roomy home and we loved being able to walk right out onto the beach each morning and watch that gorgeous sunset in the evening. The water was warm and not deep so we didn't have to worry about the kids and they loved finding the crabs and splashing and playing. The home is so well kept and we had plenty of room to be together and to have our own space. We loved our stay.

A short bike ride takes you to 2nd Street otherwise known as 'downtown' Lewes, a quaint section of historic Lewes with shops and fine dining. Lewes is known as the First Town in the First State, settled by the Dutch in 1631 and the Zwanandael Museum is just one block from Second Street. Don't miss the Saturday morning Farmers' Market at the west end of 2nd Street located in the Lewes Historical Complex near the Overfalls Lightship. The Lewes Yacht Club has a summer swim team and sailing camp available for members and non-members. Salt water fishing from the beach, offshore, bay and/or ocean is available. Some offshore species include yellow and blue fin tuna. Artists will enjoy various studios/galleries and the Rehoboth Art League. Several theater groups provide live entertainment in the area along with open air concerts in the park and library. The Canal Front Park offers tennis, basketball, zumba and yoga along with slips for transient boaters; dock master Marty would be happy to help. Across the canal is Irish Eyes Restaurant, a full boat yard, offshore and inshore fly fishing supplies and the Pirates of Lewes excursion, a huge hit with kids. Whale watching, sunset cruises and party boats are available at The Wharf. Try The Buttery for fine dining and a Touch of Italy is across the street. Striper Bites offers classic seafood, Half Full is a small pizza and wine bar, the Lewes Bake Shop grinds and roasts their own coffee while Aqave specializes in Southwestern food with some of the best guacamole and extensive tequila selection. Nearby is the Cape May/Lewes Ferry about 70 minutes across the Delaware Bay. Just past the Ferry is Cape Henlopen State Park with daily and seasonal passes available. The Park offers camping, weekly nature day camps for kids, surf fishing, surfing, hiking, biking and a World War II exhibit including tours of one of the bunkers. Rehoboth Beach, known as the 'Summer's Capital' has an ocean front boardwalk with 'Fun Land' amusements and along Route One between Lewes and Rehoboth are outlets with tax free shopping.
