Gentle Winds, St. Croix, U.S.V.I. - come unwind!

Bedrooms 3
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

3 bedroom / 3 bath ocean front condo ( sleeps 6-8 )

Our condo is located at Gentle Winds, a 65 unit development located on the North Shore of St. Croix. Gentle Winds is built on 66 acres of ocean front property with spectacular views from all units. The popular dive spot named West Wall is located just off the front beach where two dive boats can be seen anchoring for their guests to enjoy their mid morning or mid afternoon dives. We are within a 5 minute walk, under 1/2 mile, to the dive center named Anchor Dive Shop.

The beachfront has a beautiful sandy beach with palm trees and plenty of lounge chairs to pull into the sun or pull under a palm lined cabana for some shade. There is a roped off section for swimming - take your mask and snorkel to discover some colorful local coral fish.

The Beach Shack serves a delicious burger and lentil salad which I highly recommend while you are enjoying your rum drink or iced cold beer.

If you want some activity on the property before relaxing ocean side, try a game of tennis, a (short) round of golf, ping pong or Shuffleboard. Or go into town to compete with one of the local crab races to win prizes!

This property is well maintained - see if you can find the man trimming the coconut palms and kindly ask if he would pull out his machete to serve up some fresh fresh fresh coconut milk.

Our condo has all of the island amenities : refrigerator/ stove / microwave / washer dryer / Wifi / INDUSTRIAL ICE MAKER and flat screen t.v. installed May 2015... so come on to the island and relax for a week or two!

About Pam and Jamie Breen

My husband has been traveling with his family to St. Croix for 25+ years. We just purchased this condo from his parents in January 2015. It had not previously been in the rental market - only owner occupied. We intend to rent for about half of the year and enjoy it for ourselves for the remaining time frame.

Pam and Jamie Breen purchased this condo in 2015

Why Pam and Jamie Breen chose Estate Salt River

We love the Virgin Islands and the gorgeous blue waters of the Caribbean. There are so many water activities to enjoy: world class diving spots / snorkeling at Buck Island ( a National Underwater Park) / sailing / fishing .. all activities that we find relaxing... and it is a direct flight from Atlanta with only a 3.5 hour flying time.

What makes this condo unique

We like telling our guests to check out these activites while they are 'on island' : take one of two Rum tours at Cruzan Rum and/or Captain Morgan; see the Beer Drinking pig; drive through the the Rain forest; take an Eco tour; take a tour of the 2 beautifully historic port towns: Christiansted and Frederiksted; Explore Buck Island National Reef by sailing, motor boat, and snorkeling excursions.(( Pam rates this as awesome! Book w/ Captain Heinz ; Kayak through Salt River Ecological Preserve and be one with the marine and plant life. Pam recommends the Moonlight Tour for the bioluminescent tour !! ; Take the kids horseback riding in the tropical rain forest ; Get a bird's eye view of beautiful St. Croix with a flight-seeing tour ; Beaches, Beaches, Beaches; sail on Roseway if she is in port ( a national historic landmark schooner)

/ reservations:340-626-7877 daily 4-6:30pm; book a trip with Caribbean Sea Adventure owner:Miles Sperber/tel 340-773- 2628; book a sailing trip on this Catamaran: Jolly Mon - evening sunset cruises with bottomless rum punch; enjoy the island!

Comfortable and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks so much, Pam and Jamie! We had such a lovely time at Gentle Winds L-2. The unit is well appointed and the beach was beautiful! We snorkeled for the first time ever right off the beach and saw some amazing fish!!! The island seems to be recovering from the effects of the 2017 hurricanes. Our visits to Christiansted and Frederiksted were nice. I hope we can make it back when the Beach Shack is open - easy to imagine how great that would be!! Thanks again for everything!

Perfect place to stay on St. Croix

  • 5 of 5

Thank you, Pam and Jamie, for sharing your special island "home". We spent two weeks with two of our adult daughters and the three bedrooms /3 baths were spacious and provided everyone with the space they needed. The 2 level condo was well appointed, cozy and stocked with everything we needed (plus items that we didn't even think of). The views were stunning and it was so convenient to walk across the lawn to the pool, beach and the facility great room. We never used the air conditioning because the open windows and sliding doors allowed a wonderful ocean breeze with the sounds of the surf day and night making a vacation in the Caribbean as relaxing as it can be.

We were also able to walk to Flyers restaurant at Salt River and take a short drive to Cane Bay and it's surrounding restaurants. Christainstead is a delightful downtown full of interesting shops and very good places to eat. The harbor area is not only a lovely site but It is fun to sit and watch the float planes come and go to and from surrounding islands. The beaches on the east and west end are great to explore - each offering it's own features.

You do need a car to really experience the island and even though there has been an amazing effort to clean up after Maria with minimal evidence in most places, the cell phone coverage can be spotty. Having said that the WiFi at the Gentle winds unit works just fine.

All in all we lost count of how many times we said that we picked the best place. It's not always easy to look through properties online and know for sure. Thank you again for making us feel at home. Our trip was wonderful.

Great location, comfortable accommodation

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at Pam's condo. Gentle Winds is a great place to unwind - the pool and beach were always quiet, with plenty of places to lie down and soak up the sun. The condo itself is well equipped and worked well for the five of us. We had everything that we needed. I would highly recommend Gentle Winds and I hope that we get the chance to go back again.

We were in St Croix in Feb 2018, just a few months after the hurricanes in Sept. The island is returning to normal, but neither the phone nor the TV services were working at the condo at that time, which made communications a little tricky (getting our rental car from the airport as they had "run out of cars" when we arrived the day before was not straightforward as we couldn't reliably text either). The beach shack was being rebuilt, so sadly no lunches or drinks on the beach. Traveling to Christiansted, local bars or supermarkets for meals and food was fine. Wifi services were very patchy and parking close to restaurants in the town center wasn't always easy (we were traveling with someone with limited mobility). Overall, it is amazing that St Croix was doing so well so soon after the hurricanes, but you will need to take into consideration that things are still slowly returning to normal.

Nice Location and Great Unit

  • 5 of 5

We were the first guests to be allowed back post-hurricane as the electricity had just been restored the week or so before and I was pleased to see how good the property looked. The only damage was that the snack shed was being rebuilt as were the tiki huts on the beach so there was a little noise during the day but that should be finished shortly.

The unit is spacious and well equipped with a nice view of the beach area especially from the open patio off the master bedroom. Great to be convenient to Salt River Bay for kayaking and to a number of our favorite restaurants (go next door to Flyers at the marina- they have the BEST ice cream!)

There were still a few maintenance issues mostly storm related but things were handled unobtrusively and the manager Sylvia is very obviously on top of things!

The island seems to be getting "back to normal" at least for the visitor with the roads cleared and most businesses and services open. And everything has greened up so most of the landscape is as beautiful as ever. Lots of work to be done to be sure especially out by Frederiksted but even there it is a tribute to the resolve and dedication of the people and those who have come to help with how much has been accomplished in a few short months.

We were happy to come down and enjoy ourselves and at the same time help out by bringing business back to our USVI brothers and sisters!

Awesome (super clean) condo with plenty of room for our family of 7! Pam was amazing and promptly responded to texts. Had play n go already for our 6 month old grand daughter. Furnished very nicely - tons of extra amenities! Extras left for your use during your stay from home owner and previous travelers, which really came in handy. Kitchen was well equipped for cooking along with condiments. Grounds were very secure, clean and beautiful. Quiet tourist time so the private beach and pool was VIP. We snorkeled and found cool shells right off Gentle Winds beach. Stunning ~ we'll be back!

Gentle Winds is a private, gated community located on the beautiful North Shore of St Croix. This 65 unit, 66 acre community is nestled between the mountains of St Croix and the turquoise Caribbean Sea. This location not only provides a peaceful setting with a backdrop of the best nature has to offer, but also between 5 and 15 minutes away you have a large variety of restaurants, diving, fishing, 2 world class golf courses, kayaking, horseback riding, rain forest exploring, tidal pool wading, hiking, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing, casino (on the other side of the island), shopping, and many more opportunities to explore all that the island has to offer.

Gentle Winds' entrance is beautifully lined in 30 year old massive palm trees, planted after the last major hurricane to hit the island, making for a grand entrance. The development of Gentle Winds offers a large sandy beachfront area with lounge chairs nestled under Palm frond cabanas and hammocks for napping! The beach has a roped off swimming area with a sandy ocean bottom perfect for swimming and is protected by a coral reef that provides for fantastic snorkeling.

The saltwater swimming pool, newly renovated in 2013, is located beachfront, steps from the sand. There are also many lounge chairs and tables poolside, perfect for enjoying lunch and a tropical drink from the onsite beach shack. This popular gathering place, which is open most days and every day in the high season, serves burgers, fish, wraps, fries, salads, and made to order drinks along with daily specials.

For sports fans, Gentle Winds has on site the following amenities ( without charge) : 2 tennis courts, basketball, shuffleboard, 3 chipping greens, and indoor ping-pong. The clubhouse offers a reading library, restrooms, and seating for relaxing, socializing, and dining.

The property is beautifully maintained by full time staff and onsite manager, and all condominiums are privately owned. There are nine three story buildings and ours is located in the very middle of the entire grouping. Our condo is on 2 levels, with a spiral staircase leading to the master suite and its king size bed. The second level also has a loft with a pull out sofa which converts to a double bed and 2 rooftop patios with lounge chairs for sunning and stargazing. The main floor has a bedroom with 2 twin size beds, and the third bedroom has a queen size bed. The full kitchen has all you need to prepare meals, with a dining table, and opens to a living room with a cathedral ceiling. The screened lanai with patio furniture allows for fresh air dining and a tremendous view of the azure sea. The condo has cable TV, high speed internet, a washer and dryer in the unit, and central AC, if you need it. The excellent cross breeze and 4 ceiling fans will keep you cool at night and you may find you don't need the AC. The included WiFi can be used throughout the property, including the pool area and beach.
