About this property

Oceanfront Hawaiian-style Beach House

Oceanfront. Throw a pebble into the Pacific Ocean from your lanai.
Hale Aloha is an oceanfront private retreat located in the magical neighborhood of Puako, next to Mauna Lani Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii. Puako is one of the sunniest destinations in Hawaii with a unique blend of old Hawaii charm and pristine coastline. Each day is filled with the sound of the sea, coconut trees swaying in the tropical breeze and the beauty of Hawaii. You share the ocean with sea turtles, humpback whales, and play on an oceanfront rich with sea life. Your day ends with one of the most stunning sunsets in the world!

Typical of the beachfront homes that have made Puako so beloved, Hale Aloha is ideal for one or two couples or a family who appreciates a sense of place in a perfectly maintained Hawaiian-style beach house. With 120 feet of ocean frontage, this property is perfect for lounging and enjoying the sunshine and ocean air. Ocean access is adjacent to Hale Aloha and offers an ideal location to go fishing, snorkeling, diving, surfing, kayaking, and stand-up paddling.

Hale Aloha was built in the 1950's, and was completely renovated in 2014 without losing its Old Hawaiian charm. The fun and playful decor with plantation doors, wood louver windows, and hardwood laminate floors is a tropical retreat!
There is a private guest cottage on the property which is rented separately -
VRBO684722

The living room is completely open to the tropical breezes with large pocket sliding doors and screens leading to a large lanai with outdoor dining and BBQ.
Each bedroom features California King Tempur-Pedic beds with high quality bedding. Living room sofa opens to queen bed. A laundry room with full size stacking Kenmore Elite washer and dryer is included.

The warm ocean is your swimming pool. Protected and only 2-5 feet deep with a mostly sandy bottom, it is home to green sea turtles and colorful fish. Just beyond the reef-protected lagoon is the best snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking in Hawaii. In low tide, the tidal pools will inspire, in January through May, you can watch the humpback whales play and breach.
Morning walks along the two-lane Puako Beach Drive will find you at Puako's famous ancient Hawaiian rock carvings, the largest example of Petroglyphs in the world. There is also a grocery store in walking distance.

So nice to be right at oceans edge. Beautiful sunsets without leaving your lawn chair.
Clean but not well maintained Patio floor peeling, stained. No little lights outside for ambience We used a big flashlight Lawn is not attended to with equal patches of dirt and tufts of grass A six inch tear in leather sofa. Occasional chairs purchased at consignment and did not realize they were for children. Only one smoke alarm, property manager? Brought an installed. Beds were great kitchen and living space very large so well suited for six. All lawn chairs very nice One large pot next to stone wall which is where we looked every night for sunset, completely empty. Fron door entrance very weak as leaves everywhere, a pot with weak plant in it. Lastly advertised as two bathrooms We were a family of six, there is a bathroom with shower between the bedrooms. The “second” bathroom is at the other end of house, through pantry and past vacuum cleaner and then washer and dryer and then bathroom Was a small room with a sink and toilet and Murrow. So if two couples rented this and thought they would have separate bathrooms with showers that could be a big issue. With family a little easier to work out. To finish I would like to say over the years I have rented homes mant times, including Puako, many times in states. The property manager said the house will be torn down and the consignment store was low on stock which is what sofa was ripped. There were four beach towels, frayed, for not six. Property manager offered to buy more at Costco. They were 9.99 for four, microfibre ? I took these with me so prepared to pay 40 dollars to owner. Just did not want to leave cash on counter. My adult kids arrived first takes to WestJet changing our flight and they dealt with property manager, not me So I emailed michell next day re towels rip on sofa, etc and she never responded. Added to our booking is fee for vrbo which indicates that vrbo has some control over rental, if not what are wevpaying the extra fees for. Our holiday was fine, family loved being on water, but it did not meet my standards. We moved to a small place down the road as family went home..night and day, all the small touches and no surprises. I tend to not put my comments for readers and prefer to deal direct with owners. I would not recommend this rental and will nit rebook. If you have any info as to how rentals are “checked” I would like to know. Thank you for your time. Bernice

A hidden Paradise
We were there for 9 days and enjoyed our snorkel in snorkel out accommodations. The house fits in amazingly and it was great to have and indoor outdoor feel. Our whole family had lots of fun. Great space to kid around the ball in the front yard and enjoy space to have a dinner and watch the sunset. The stars were amazing and the beds felt like pillows to sleep on. Jay was an amazing resource to have and helped us have hula lessons right at the property

Paradise on the ocean
Loved our stay in this perfect little cottage on the ocean. Great whale watching and lots of turtles in the tide pool. Even though the weather was windy, our vacation location in Puako was the best. Can’t wait to come back!

We purchased Hale Aloha for a family retreat to be shared with our children, grandchildren and guests.
There is something magical about The Big Island and when you spend some time in Puako you will understand. The community retains its laid-back friendly atmosphere. and the close proximity to the world-class amenities and resorts along the Kohala Coast offers a unique Hawaiian vacation.
Our goal is to keep our rates reasonable and encourage our guests to return on a regular basis

Why they chose this property

The Pacific Ocean is 30 feet from the lanai. There is not a hotel room on the Big Island with the same feeling. Sunsets are stunning. If you want to know what it would be like to live on the ocean in Hawaii, Hale Aloha is your place.
