Heart Of The City, Parking On Site, Walking Distance To All Major Attractions
I like travelling, and when I cannot travel, meeting new people from around the world is great. The house is a duplex, and I live upstairs; which makes for easy access to me if you need anything. At the same time, like many travelers, I like my space, and respect yours of course.
Why Alan chose Centretown
I like walking, and being right in the centre of the city allows for easy access to everything. Ten minute walk to the Blues Fest, or Little Italy or the location of many festivals held at Confederation Park. And of course, walking to Parliament on Canada Day, and watching the Snow Birds fly over the house that day is pretty cool too.

This apartment is perfect in every way. The location is a short walk to Chinatown restaurants and the downtown core. We were in town for Bluesfest which is about 15 mins walk from the apartment. Very safe at all times of day.
The apartment is meticulously clean (and I’m picky), nicely appointed and completely stocked-coffee, filters, tea, hot chocolate, ice, all cooking utensils, seran wrap, hair dryer, soap, shampoo, conditioner, umbrellas, throws, literally everything!
The neighbourhood is quiet and we enjoyed morning coffee and evening wine on the porch.
Alan is a superb host, full of great advice, funny stories and readily available for questions.
Can’t wait to visit again!
We stayed over the Canada day long weekend. It was as described by Alan, close to everything no need to rent a car! We had our grandchildren ages 11 and 9 and we walked everywhere with them! The apartment is super clean and welcoming. Enjoyed relaxing on the deck after a long day. Really appreciated having umbrellas for us to use( no rain but certainly helped with the sun). He is very quick to respond to emails and there to help with anything that is needed. Would recommend to others and stay again if visiting Ottawa

Close to Chinatown and War Museum
Alan is very good with responsiveness and communication. He has a lot of extras such as water bottles (which were very much appreciated!)
If you plan to spend most of your time in Ottawa on the west end of the city, then the location is good. While Ottawa is a very walkable city, there aren't a lot of restaurants close by unless you are going into Chinatown which is very close by to the apartment. Parliament Hill is about 1 km away, Byward Market is over 2.5 km away. Elgin Street restaurants are 1 km away minimum.
While the house is very clean, be forewarned that it does not have air conditioning. Also we were disappointed that it is a non-smoking house, but has a very distinct cigarette smoke leftover smell in the living room/kitchen area.
Thank you for your review. The house is non-smoking, and since I live on the second floor, I would be very aware of anyone smoking, and can assure you, no previous guest did that. I cannot explain how you smelt smoke, except for the remote chance of it coming from a neighbours fireplace (it has been a cold June and people have been using their fireplaces). As to the location, the house is not in, or near, the west end of Ottawa, it is in the centre of the city as noted in the listing, specifically three blocks from the centre, hence why this neighbourhood is called Centretown. I am sorry you did not find the selection of restaurants near the house to be plentiful and varied. As to no air conditioning, that is noted in my listing; and given the large trees that over hang the house, and the roof over the front porch (no radiant heat), I have never had an issue regarding house temperature: In fact being such a cold June the furnace was on during your stay, had I been aware you found it too warm, I would gladly have turned the furnace off.
Excellent base to explore Ottawa
The apartment is walking distance to Parliament Hill, the National Gallery and a number of other downtown sites.
The apartment is very comfortable, stocked with appealing toiletries and wonderfully fluffy towels. Ample supplies of coffee and an impressive array of teas were in the kitchen.
Alan is an amiable host, living upstairs, and is a good source of information regarding the city - what to see, where to eat.
Home Away From Home
My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at Alan's Ottawa property. Right from my first contact with Alan he was timely with his response, working with me in a kind, professional and helpful manner. When we arrived at the property, Alan was there to greet us. His apartment provides a designated off street parking space which Alan clearly marked. Alan took the time to give us a tour of the apartment making sure that we felt comfortable with the door locks, TV, etc.. I immediately noticed the care that Alan has taken in making sure that everything is clean and tidy. As somewhat of a germaphobe, I had spent some time looking for an apartment that would meet my needs. We certainly were not disappointed. The rooms were clean as well as the dishes which were actually spotless! Alan also had been kind enough to stock the fridge with bottled water and the cupboards with tea and coffee. Alan took the time to inquire as to what types of things we might want to see and do in Ottawa and then provide suggestions...even going as far as marking a map for us. It was quite obvious that Alan wanted us to have a wonderful experience while we were staying at his apartment and we did. I also want to mention that the apartment is ideally located so that you are able to walk to a number of restaurants, the National Gallery, War Museum, Parliament buildings, Byward Market and more. The pictures and descriptions of Alan's property are accurate and I can safely say that the next time I am visiting Ottawa, I will inquire with Alan first as I look for accommodations. Thank you, Alan.
Wonderful place within a short walk to everything!
My husband and I came for race weekend to see friends run the marathon. It was a pleasure to stay in this wonderful home. We were met by our host, Alan who was extremely nice. He walked us through a very clean and pleasant place. It had everything that we needed. He then proceeded to highlight for us places in the city. You do not need a car to go to these places. There is plenty to do and see within walking distance. You park your car on the property and never have to take it again if you choose not to. We will definitely stay there again!
If you are renting a car, don't. The apartment is easy walking distance to everything in downtown Ottawa, be it Parliament, the By-Ward Market, China Town or Little Italy. The bicycle, jogging and walking paths along the river are also easy distances. There is a reason why many neighbours do not own cars on our street, you simply do not need one to get to most festivals and events held in Ottawa.
