About this property

Family lodge on private lake to enjoy fishing, hiking, nature and much more!

Entering the front door of the Lodge, you will walk into the open concept kitchen and dining area, which flows into the living room. This area boasts big windows, which provide unobstructed views of the lake and the spacious yard. The kitchen has everything necessary for preparing and enjoying meals; including refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, pots & pans and utensils.

Steps leading down to the full walkout basement and a full bath with tub and shower are in the center of the Lodge, with 2 big bedrooms in the back. The master bedroom is very private, with a sliding glass door that overlooks the lake. Step right outside from here and enjoy the scenic view! The second bedroom contains a set of double bunk beds along with another double bed.

A 12 foot wide deck runs across the entire front of the Lodge, which is a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee!

A gas grill is available, along with an adjustable hanging grill over the fire pit in the yard. Firewood is supplied for you to roast or grill any number of yummy treats — maybe a fresh fish dinner with s’mores for dessert — which you can enjoy eating at the picnic table that is provided. Then just sit and relax by the fire after your day of fun-filled activities!

A solar system provides electrical power for the Lodge, making it completely off grid. Propane fuel powers the refrigerator and stove, and each room has propane lights.

Ideal isolated and quiet cabin
Exactly what a quiet week Up North should be. Cabin was well-furnished, five (!!) different boats provided, firewood provided, quiet lake with, from what I could tell, 5 total cabins on it. Almost zero mosquitos, but a good amount of flies by the shore. Hosts escorted us to the property at check-in, which I was not used to, but because it's so far off the road that's really the best way to do it.

Excellent stay
Excellent stay in a very private, quiet, clean well equipped cabin. Beautiful setting. Kids had a ton of fun playing outside and having campfires. Convenient to Crystal Falls for supplies and a good deli and diner. Enjoyed the boat and electric trolling motor- some nice bass and pike in there. Excellent kind owners ensure a great stay. Highly recommend if you really want to unplug, relax and enjoy nature.

Amazing location and owners!
The cabin on the lake is amazing. Very quiet and relaxing and the cabin has all the comforts of home. The owners were tremendously helpful and went out of their way to answer all of our questions before and during our stay! Our family of five caught plenty of fish, saw wild life, swam in the lake and relaxed. The location is perfect for day trips to other areas of the U.P. As well. Thanks Dave and Nancy for making our stay so great!

Very pleasant and relaxing week
I thoroughly enjoyed the stay and hope to go back next year. Dave Young was extremely helpful and the lake was gorgeous. My wife and three kids and I had a great time. Everyone caught a fish. John

Home away from home!
Our family recently stayed here for a week and were so taken aback by how wonderful the cabin and surrounding area were! We were able to hear the whippoorwills at night and even heard the wolves howling! The place was sparkling clean and being a fully stocked house makes it easy to prepare meals and have a place big enough for the whole family to enjoy. There are also so many scenic trips to take and everything in the area is full of breathtaking sights. The lake is also very nice and the fish are plentiful! We will definitely be trying to come back as soon as possible!

About the host

The Lodge is owned and operated by David & Nancy Young, along with Tom & Becky TerBeek, their daughter and son-in-law.

David has appreciated spending time in the UP since before the Mackinac Bridge was built! He and Nancy were able to acquire their first parcel of property here in the 1970s, and build a cabin for their own personal enjoyment in 1987, where five generations of their family have had the pleasure of making so many wonderful memories. Tom & Becky had the incredible opportunity to retire in 2020 and make this their permanent home, which was such a blessing!

Their children and grandchildren encouraged them to purchase and update the Lodge, with the goal of making it available for others to be able to have their own memorable experiences here in this magnificent environment!

Tom and Becky live in the family cabin nearby and will assist their guests in any way possible to make this a remarkable vacation!

Why they chose this property

This property is very secluded and located directly on Upper Holmes Lake. This is a non public lake and there are also 200 private acres of land for your recreational use.

The Lodge has it’s own private dock, with a fishing boat, canoe and paddle boat provided. If you do like to fish, the lake is home to panfish, bass, pike & walleye. If you enjoy watching and listening for birds, you will likely see and hear loons swimming on the lake. Bald eagles nest in the trees around the lake. And songbirds are plentiful — the whippoorwills especially like to make their presence known!

You may hear wolves and coyotes howling at night, or see some deer, bear, beaver, or maybe even a moose! Also, if it is a clear night and the conditions are right, you may be able to view the Northern Lights!

Feel free to swim in the lake, if that is an activity you enjoy!

There is a railroad track crossing the north end of the lake, which is quite a sight when a train goes by!

You are welcome to bring your own kayak for use on the lake. If you have a bigger boat, the Michigamme Reservoir is only five minutes away, where you will find a great boat launch and plentiful fishing. While they are not permitted on the property itself, there are also great trails nearby for ATVs and ORVs.

What makes this property unique

This property is centrally located in the western UP, just 5 miles from the historic small town of Crystal Falls. It is perfectly situated for any number of day trips, including, but not limited to — both Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, the Porcupine Mountains, Pictured Rocks, Copper Harbor, several waterfalls and rapids, museums, historical sites, casinos — the list goes on and on!

If you are looking for a secluded, private getaway, you have found it at the Lodge! Disconnect from the outside world for a bit, reconnect with each other, come enjoy the unspoiled beauty in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and make your own wonderful lifetime memories!

We look forward to meeting you and having you as our guests!
