Seaglass Cottage-Cozy Cottage at Hidden Beach-200 Steps to the Atlantic Ocean

Bedrooms 1
Space 864 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

Available Jan. 7-14, 2018 and Feb. 6-13 for visitors wishing to escape the deep freeze!

Located right on the Atlantic, this cottage is comfortable, airy, and homey. Featuring one large master bedroom, a full kitchen, living room with dining area, full bath and outside shower, a porch and two decks, this is a wonderful place for a tropical vacation. Used as a rental property since 2001, many people have enjoyed Seaglass Cottage. The house is 200 or so steps from Hidden Beach.

Owned by two artists, Seaglass Cottage is full of art. With handmade furniture, water color paintings, and lots of creations made from findings on the beach, the atmosphere is just right for a real beach house. Here you will find plenty of reading lamps, a king size bed, a fully stocked kitchen with everything imaginable needed for cooking, and a full size bathroom with tub. If you prefer, shower outside in the outdoor shower with a lovely palm frond roof.

Swimming and fishing is excellent. There are several beaches in the neighborhood. Because each side of the island is different, if the water on one side of the island is too wavy, just swim on the other side. Rainbow Beach, located on the Caribbean side, is about a 2 minute drive from the house. During summer months, swimming is excellent in the Atlantic Ocean and there is no finer swimming hole than Hidden Beach. The beach has pink sand and beautiful seashells which you can collect. There is also seaglass!

Eleuthera has several good restaurants and take-aways. Rainbow Inn, only five minutes from the house, has a variety of offerings. If you prefer to cook at home, there is a wonderful view of the water from the kitchen island. Enjoy the water while you prepare meals. You can buy fresh fish from the dock in James Cistern (about 10 minutes from the house).

Our caretaker, Merci, lives in Palmetto Point and is just a phone call away.

All linens are provided. The house is self-catering. Please bring your own dishwashing soap, handi-wrap, food items, coffee filters, etc.

Please take a look at our website for detailed information about what you will find in the house.

Please note that there is a pot cat (Eleuthera kitty cat) who resides on the property. A neighbor feeds her daily. She has access to our shed through a kitty door, so she is completely independent. She does appreciate being petted if you are a cat person. If you are allergic to cats, please note that kitty is sometimes allowed in the house by cat-loving renters.

To get to Eleuthera, fly either directly to the island from Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, or fly to Nassau and connect on either Southern Air, Bahamas Air, or Pineapple Air. All of the above mentioned airlines have websites for booking flights. Another choice is the Bahamas Fast Ferry. Nassau is about 50 miles from Eleuthera.

Fly into either Governor's Harbour Airport (GHB) or North Eleuthera Airport (ELH).

GHB is about 25 minutes from the house. ELH is about 45 minutes away.

It is best to secure a rental car prior to your arrival. There are 110 miles of beaches in Eleuthera which most guests like to explore. There is also a beautiful botanical garden - The Levy Plant Preserve - located on Banks Rd. in the Governor's Harbour area.

Eleuthera is quiet, serene, and beautiful. Research the island before you visit. The atmosphere is very laid back. Most islanders are on island time and the pace of life is very slow. Eleuthera is a lovely destination!

PLEASE NOTE - A $70 CLEANING FEE IS REQUIRED AND MUST BE LEFT INSIDE THE HOUSE UPON DEPARTURE. We charge a 200.00 fully refundable damage deposit. Check in is at 3:00 p.m. Check out is 11:00 a.m.

7 day minimum rentals are required. We do not rent the house for partial weeks unless your dates extend beyond one full week (ex: ten-day rentals).

Also, my son-in-law, Scott, handles all of the reservations. He will be happy to help you.

About Laura Crosby

My husband and I own several unique properties which we rent as vacation rentals. We love Eleuthera, having discovered the Bahamas twenty or so years ago. We love Seaglass Cottage and are grateful for the time we are able to spend on the island.

Why Laura Crosby chose Rainbow Bay

Seaglass Cottage is just a short walk from the beach. It's nice to be able to run down to the beach; return to the house for a snack; return to the beach. When you're close to the shore, you can observe the water and the sand at different times of the day. It changes a lot!

What makes this cottage unique

There is usually a stiff breeze blowing from the east. That is a real advantage for not only does it cool you and the house, it shoos away the insects. Also, on the Atlantic side, the view of the cruise ships far off in the distance, especially at nighttime, is quite enchanting. If you like to observe ships in the distance, do bring a good pair of binoculars with you.

Second time visiting Seaglass Cottage. Perfect location by the Sea. Ran out of propane but the caretaker Merci was able to get us cooking again quickly. Loved the roaring crashing waves to sleep by at night! Witnessed some incredible winds and waves during the full moon which made it look like a Hawaiian Surfers dream! So cool to have both Caribbean and Ocean options everyday!

Unique and adorable cottage by the sea

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 5 days and had a wonderful time. The view of the Atlantic Ocean and the location of the cottage for central access for everything was awesome! The owner of the place did an incredible job on her artwork throughout the place....taking pieces of seaglass, things found on the beach.....such talent to possess in ones mind was just really a great inspiration and way to look at life. The bedroom was very comfortable with a view of the ocean and the breeze it brought in. The kitchen (with an ocean view) was very accommodating and spacious to cook meals in (everything needed to prepare even the biggest spread of food.) It was quiet, nobody to bother you and the nearby beaches and surroundings were just amazing, breathtaking. We felt at home staying there to relax, unwind....takes your mind to another level of peace and tranquility. Thank you for the memories!!!!!!

A Slice of Heaven for Ten Days!

  • 5 of 5

Most of us long for a place to relax and have some time to decompress from work and the rush, rush of our normal lives at home. We found a delightful place. If you want charming, this is it! SeaGlass Cottage provided us with beautiful views, cool Atlantic breezes in the morning, a huge comfy bed, fully stocked kitchen, friendly island people, well stocked grocery stores(a bit pricey, but ample offerings), and a few wonderful places to eat out! Want more check out Harbor Island for a day trip. Our wonderful caretaker, Louie, was the nicest guy. We enjoyed our conversation with him every evening. He even got two coconuts down from the tree on the property for us as a surprise. Yummy! The house is decorated with Laura's sea glass art work. Just beautiful. The AC in the living room was not working, but the constant breeze was enough for us. The bedroom AC worked perfectly. I hope you get the chance to visit this wonderful cottage. Enjoy, enjoy this slice of heaven.

Completly blissful!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Sea glass cottage from March 22 - April 8, 2017.

We have been to Eleuthera 2 previous times and have never been disappointed.

This was the best trip yet! The cottage was perfect for us. Hidden beach is a great beach and the cottage is close to other beaches as well. We caught fish at Hidden beach and found great shells in the cove down below, went swimming... you name it and it was fantastic! My shell and sea glass hunting were a huge success! (Brought 60 lbs back with me!) The house is full of art made by the owner and it has everything you could possibly need to have a wonderful time. We will come back for sure. Thanks for sharing your house with us Laura. Louie ( the caretaker) was so nice and we really enjoyed getting to know him. We hope to visit again really soon!

Happy in Eleuthera,

Greta & Dave Thompson

Eleuthera has 110 miles of beaches! Each one is different. Because the island is so skinny, hopping from one side to the other is a breeze. If it's wavy on one side, swim on the other. You can explore beaches, caves, small settlements, and Governor's Harbour. There are beautiful historic buildings in GH and the Levy Plant Preserve is located nearby on Banks Rd.
