Family Holiday Week
Our family of three adult children with spouses and two grandbabies spent Christmas week in this lovely villa. From the moment I sent the first message to the owner, Miss Cora, to the very end of our stay, we had complete and immediate access to the owner, and the people who care for the grounds and the house. The view from the wrap around porch is spectacular!! We watched the sunrise every morning as the cruise ships came into port, and evening happy hour watching the ships and other boats in the harbor with beautiful colored skies as the sun set. Large bedrooms with comfy beds made sleeping enjoyable! The villa is about 10 min from the airport and downtown… the location is not easy to find at first, but after a few trips up/down the mountain- it gets easier! Well worth it! The swimming pool is a great place to relax, cool off, and have fun! We all enjoyed it! The villa is older and decorated that way… We had to do a bit of “baby proofing “ with our toddler, but there was lots of space to play inside and on the deck. A lovely trip!!

Fantastic Views
Fantastic harbor views day and night. We really enjoyed the stay. Morning coffee and watching the cruise ships roll in was enjoyable. Some of us enjoyed the strenuous walk up narrow streets to the place, most used a car service.

One of the best views on St. Thomas
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Cora was a great host. Communication before and during our trip was awesome and we got a lot of good information about the villa, activities on the island and food. Cora does not live on St. Thomas but has various caretakers for the villa, pool and property. And they were always only a short phone call away and helped to make us feel at home. We were met at the airport to accompany us to the villa and toshow us around. There was a starter package of groceries in the fridge. The pool was cleaned frequently. The villa itself must have one of the best views over Charlotte Amaelie. We spend a lot of time sitting on the terrace and balcony to watch the cruise ships come and go and the water planes take off and land. Considering the climate in the Carribean the villa and pool were in good shape and had ample of space for our family of six. I would note that the pool isn’t heated which was a nice refresher during the day, but felt too cold after the sun was gone. Overall we had a great experience!

The stay was amazing and Daphne was outstanding! We got more than we anticipated staying at this pro
The property was very spacious and accommodating to my family. It has an antique style and plenty of open space. The terrace and views were incredible and the highlight of the entire stay. Daphne makes you feel at home! Transportation directions is difficult for the taxis as even if you tell them the “old governor’s mansion” they still don’t know how to get there. Luckily for us we had Allen as our transportation! The only downside which Daphne warned us was the peacock that poops all over the place and wakes you up around 7am each morning. Outside of that the peacock is harmless and stays out the way. We will be returning to this property instead of staying at the Frenchman Marriott

About the host

Hosted by Christian Villa

Host profile image
Christian Villa was restored by Dr. Christian who grew up and resided in the residence until going off to medical school and returning to St. Croix to serve the community of her father’s birthplace. Dr. Christian kept the original architecture and basalt stone (locally called “blue-bitch stone”) from the actual excavation of the property. This stone is a very hard volcanic stone used by the Danes on many of the historic buildings that are still evident in the city of Charlotte Amalie, a nationally acclaimed historic city and balusters that her father and mother sat many an evening together in the early days of their 64 years of marriage as they filled the molds with concrete and applied the stonework to the structure. Throughout the residence are relics of the life of her family from her grandfather’s mahogany bed to the crystal chandelier from her mother’s bedroom that now serves as a unique and stunning planter, to the pool that has a inlaid rose at its bottom at the same location that her mother’s rose garden was and much more. It is a home that captures all of the elegance of a family that has four generations that utilized this magnificent site for parties of over 200 persons that represented all levels of Virgin Islands society. The Christian family is a family that has kept the traditions of the Virgin Islands alive while providing the comfort and accommodations of a 21st Century vacation site. All rooms have individual air-conditioning but also have fans that are the traditional way that most Virgin Islanders enjoy the trade wind breezes entering the home. This is home away from home

Why they chose this property

The Villa and view are just plain stunning. From the pool and sun deck, there’s a 180-degree panorama: patches of crenelated green hills floating on cobalt-blue water, where the cruise ships begin making steam as the cocktail hour gets underway. They’ll exit the harbor with the sun, long lines of twinkling lights voyaging into the dusk.

'Dr. Christian kept the name Christian Villa but reversed the words as it was named by her father, for this was his pride and joy. You will agree once you see the property that you can as her father, Judge Christian, did enjoy sitting on the southern porch with a cup of hot tea or coffee as the cruise ships entered the port in the morning or in the evening with a cocktail of Cruzan Rum and coke, J&B on the rocks or a glass of wine as the cruise ships departed along with the sun giving you magnificent sunsets. All rooms have walls of solid concrete, and bedrooms open into their own bathroom. The southern and western porches have electrically operated hurricane screens/shutters that filter out 90% of the heat yet allows one to see the views of the harbor. At the touch of a button, you can filter out the sun, shade the porch or enjoy the brightness of the sun as it descends on the western and southern sides of the residence. And in the evenings, one can shutter the entire porch if one cares to as one leaves for additional security beyond the gated entrance. The pool, which overlooks the harbor, is on the eastern side with its own bathroom and a refrigerator for those who want to access a cold drink or snack without having to go to the spacious kitchen that has a large French door refrigerator spacious enough to accommodate the tastes of all of the residents. The view of the harbor can be enjoyed through the glass French doors or windows from the sitting room, the dining room, or the living room, as well as from the various balconies or pool.
